How come united airlines switched interior designs?

I have seen some pictures of the United Airlines cabin interior, and when I flew with them, the seats were just light blue. Why did they change that? Why did they change the colors on the outside from grey to white and blue?

  1. It's something different. Airlines will frequently change their liveries/colors. Delta is changing their liveries, US Airways has changed their colors/liveries, and Northwest had changed their liveries
  2. I can't answer why they changed the interiors, but the livery was changed after United emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy to show that United had changed, and it was pretty good time for rebranding. IMO the old gray livery sucked. It was depressing, dark, and somewhat unimaginative, and looked very dated. The new livery is just much better. As the answer above mentioned, airlines do change liveries as part of a rebranding effort. The best example is Delta, which had at least 4 different paint schemes in the last 20 years. AA, on the other hand, though kept the same scheme for over 45 years.
