How do slide out designs work (found in modern phones)?

If you know what the samsung k5 is, then that's what I'm aiming for. A sidekick has a swivel design and is not what I'm looking for. The top part slides apart from the bottom, revealing usually qwerty keyboard or other buttons. There seems to be different technologies involved in different versions of the design. How are the two parts connected electronics wise?
