Basically in my lifetime, i've seen the advent of television; telephones going from rotary dial to pushbutton to touchtone to cell to video; i have a satellite dish on my roof, and computer in my living room and a tv that's as thin as a painting portrait.. i can cook food without any fire; just stick it in a box and push a few buttons and poof ! - before water boils over an open flame, i have a hot plate of cooked meat... i don't even carry money or coins; anything i want, anywhere i go, i can get with a plastic card i slide thru a small machine..i can even get money out of the register if i want.... i don't even have to leave my house to shop... i can buy clothes, furniture and dinner right from my sofa.. i can watch movies that are in the theatre, every nite of the week, right in my livingroom, with no interuptions; while at the same time, i have another screen with an even sharper image, where i can talk to anyone almost anywhere in the world, and see them live whereever they are, while i'm talking to them.. this stuff may seem mundane to you, but only twenty years ago, the internet was some idea and computers were for geeks. fifty years ago, color tv was a luxury. thirty years ago, microwave ovens were dangerous and suspicious....and forty years ago, the robot on 'Lost in Space' was state of the art.. But, what will tomorrow bring? a tv you can roll up like a sheet of paper? Synthetic life forms made from synthetic cells?...the research is already underway for that, at the cellular level... Designer babies is already passe...what innovations in genome mapping will be put on the table?...that and stem cell research.....with the two of these put together, it seems logical that the human life expectancy can be doubled or tripled in this lifetime...with regeneration of new tissue and organs on demand; and more hardier tissue and organs, with a few tweaks up and down the double helix... What would you like to see before 2050?
