what do you think about modern designs?

please describe in your own words what is your perception when you hear the word "modern design" is it all about its futuristic appeal or simple? how can you categorize things as modern?

1. when i think of modern ...i dont know why but i think about anything in nyc....or it could be a random cool design with lines or squiggles or something :-o......but modern chould be caught as your own perspective on it...there isnt just one definition/look of modern
2. I think of non-figurative designs, freedom of theme and use of colour, splashes, smears and loose strokes combined with smooth curves and geometric lines... abstract worlds which capture the imagination, contrast, but most of all, no strict rules concerning realism, fashion and meaning.
3. i dont like the idea ide rather live in the past stuff was cheap and your toys and belongings were built better so they didnt break easily
