someone is familiar with the lighting system in classroom?

I noticed that there are 3 swiches for lighting control in classroom, the first one control the lighting in the front (chalk board ), and the second one control the lighting on the sides, the third one control the rest of them.( middle ) i dont understand why we design our lighting system like this( especially the second and thrid one ) someone knows the reason ???

  1. It's your classroom, not mine. I guess the answer is "why not"? Switches are cheap. Someone thought it would be good to have individual control over the 3 zones. And I have to agree.
  2. There are a number of reasons to zone your lighting. Studies from the Univ of Illinois have shown that students learn better when the board is lit and the area above the seats is darkened. The teacher may wish to save power. The setup you described is not really the most effective.
  3. Generally for most classwork all the lights should be on. When there is a presentation at the chalk board the all the lights can be on, or just the front. When there is an overhead , TV or slide presentation the front and middle lights can be off to help you see the image, better, especially with a transparency projecton onto a screen. The side lights help you see to take notes during the projection with less glare than the middle lights.
