Quality of IKEA kitchen cabinets?
We're thinking about installing IKEA cabinets in our kitchen. I just wanted to know if people were satisfied with the quality of the cabinets. I like the look of them so that's not a problem. Thanks

- Yeah, i have a lot IKEA stuff, and so far I have been very satisfied. I have had a wardrobe and shelving racks from them for years, and they are still in great shape. Anything that's made out of wood from them is gonna be great.
- IKEA is nice but you're not getting any better quality than that which you can get through reviewing the upper end lines at your local home centers . . . IKEA will just cost you more. These are what's refered to as European design, and I'll bet you can get the same and better for a lot less through a local cabinet maker. With a local shop you can easily step up in cabinet quality and construction as well as have all the accessories and features and still likely still be below the IKEA price tag. I recently shopped out and priced a kitchen for a customer. It came out to $26K for cabinets and tops. I found a local shop that built these out of solid maple, no industrial (particle board), and solid surface tops, installed, for $14.7K. The kitchen was far better quality then what was availble anywhere for $11,300.00 less. That kind of buying ability comes from being in the business for years and knowing what things are actually worth, or what they can be gotten for where. This was in Florida where cabinet shops are a dime a dozen and competition is fierce. Granted, they price me differently then a homeowner, but you can do the same thing if you shop and negotiate the project out smart. Get a price per feature education online, in the home centers and in the field where you live. Now use that in negotiations and you'll be surprised at what you can get for your dollar. If I cahn help you any more don't hesitate to ask. I may know of some shops in your region, or I can maybe negotiate this out wit them for you.
