Interior decorating advice wanted?

Okay for all you interior decorators out there I got a question for you. I'm redecorating my bedroom. I have all black furniture in my room: a black shelving space with frosted glass doors, a black dresser, with silver knobs, and a black comforter and pillow set with soft white trim. My beds headboard it wrought iron with an intricate lace design and an antique earthtone coloring (out of place I know but I'm hoping yall's advice will help me tie it in... or I'll just have to get rid of it and get a new headboard). What I need from yall is advice on a paint color that would look good with all the black and add more color, without being overwhelming, and a good color for curtains. I have huge cathedral windows in my room that face the east so whenever the sun is out it's extremely bright in my room, definately something to be taken into consideration, although I'm hoping the right curtains will help too. A little about me and my tastes: I am 20 years old and a fashion merchandising and communications major. I definately like a modern look but not something that will become outdated any time soon. I love cool colors like blues and greens but wouldn't be totally against earth tones or warm colors provided that they aren't too juvenile. What do you suggest?

  1. Let me give you some interior decorating ideas. First with respect to color, go to http://www.coloradofauxpainting.com/fauxpaintingcolor.html and scroll to the bottom of the page. There you will find links to the color-viewers of every major paint supplier. Once you click on them, you will get access to mock rooms where you can change the colors on the walls until you find something you like. 2. My advice would be to spend a little money on an interior decorator. He or she could visually evaluate your decor for line and texture as well as color and advise you on not only what color to paint your headboard, but the value of perhaps incorporating that color elsewhere into your palette. I have "rescued" more than one person who undertook a project and made mistakes, some costly, that could have been avoided by consulting a professional in the beginning. You should only need a couple of hours, so a good resource would be a design school or a classmate that's good with color. One good thing about your black and white palette is that you have many colors to choose from. Pinks, blues, and greens are hot with black this season.

  5. I think I'd paint the walls a soft aqua or celery green and use a curtain like this: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_dynSessConf=5615706123917416189&id=880091&parentid=DECOR_WINDOWS&pushId=&prepushId=DECOR_WINDOWS&popId=&sortProperties=&navCount=32&navAction=jump&fromCategoryPage=true&selectedProductSize=&selectedProductSize1=&color=ivo&colorName=IVORY http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_dynSessConf=5615706123917416189&id=77665&parentid=DECOR_WINDOWS&pushId=&prepushId=DECOR_WINDOWS&popId=&sortProperties=&navCount=34&navAction=jump&fromCategoryPage=true&selectedProductSize=&selectedProductSize1=&color=iee&colorName=ICE
