do i need to have good grades to get into a culinary school?

ok for starters im a junior in high school, im not the best student in the world for turning homework in but i always get above average on all the tests we have to take. but my question is, do i have to have good grades to get into culinary school, ( preferably the Culinary institute of america) but i have nobody around me thats knows much about the schools or programs. ive looked up all i can online, i know you need to have at least 6 months of experience in the kitchen and i can easily get that but yeah i just wanted to know if my grades will affect potential acceptance in culinary schools thanks also do you know what kind of gpa CIA is looking for?

  1. Hell no. All the chefs I've worked with have been total idiots.
  2. No. I know of people who graduated HS with Cs and got into culinary school.
  3. The better yor grades, the better the school you can get into, but your recommendations (from chefs you have worked with) will count a great deal, perhaps even more.
  4. you should always strive to get good grades it will help you get into any school and yes depending on the culinary school you go to good grades are a big plus >to be a great cook you need book smarts< their is a lot of science in making great food
  5. CIA does indeed demand high grades! They have so many applicants for each starting class that they have to weed most of 'em out...and requiring high grades is one very efficient way to do it. Consider going to a school with less name appeal - State University of New York offers a four-year degree in the culinary arts...and is quite a bit easier to get into...
