  1. Plecos are tropical fish and need warm water. thats all i have to say :D
  2. If you want to go with cold water plants I can recommend just about anything from the anubius genus, they are tough so that your goldfish won't eat them and most don't require a ton of maintenance because they don't grow super fast. In my tank I have Onyx Fracted Gravel made by seachem. It looks great but it does buffer the ph up a little bit [less than one point]. Here are some links to the plants and the gravel. You could probably even use the Onyx sand if you want truly black substrate. I know you are in the UK so these are merely examples. You might want to try to get their substrate vitalization system though because it is awesome! I haven't gotten any algae while using it in my planted aquarium. http://www.aquariumplants.com/ http://www.aquariumplants.com/Substrate_Gravels_Sands_s/121.htm http://www.aquariumplants.com/Anubias_s/26.htm Good luck!
  3. I'd get real plants to drop in the tank or bowl and they'll grow in 30 days. I have Lily bulbs, and my fish eats the algae from the plant so i hardly have to feed it.
  4. your tank would look great if you had plastic plants as the real plants take in waste through the day but give off twice as much through the night. some features like bubles and stuff would be great. little bridges ship wrecks etc. you could also have things like muliti coloured stones in different places. of course you dont want to over fill it so be carefull
  5. i have a natural tank i have rocks in it and lots of plants and natural pebbles u can get a cold water plecko they are called butterfly plecko's u can get drift wood too for your tank that always looks nice
