Need some ideas on what baby should wear?

So I plan on taking my 6 month old son to take some studio pictures. Most likely we're going to Portrait Innovations. The problem is I don't know what he should wear. Yes, I know, he should wear clothes and a diaper. But I mean style-wise, how should I dress him up? I know I'm making quite a big deal out of it. I'm a first time mom and I'm just over excited and over worried about everything to do with my baby. Plus, if I'm going to pay for these pictures, I want him to look his best! How did you decide on what your baby should wear to take pictures?

  1. I would do casual. Like jeans and a polo or button down.
  2. I usually shove mine in my favorite outfit.. it only makes sense... you are paying and you are capturing the moment so you should wear your favorite outfit, whether is "proper" or not... It's could be a track suit but if you love that's all that matters, you will remember that and how cute he looked in it.. so do what you like the most.
  3. I'm sure just having his face in the photo is worth the money!!! :0) I agree with the polo and jeans.. maybe even a cute hat to go with it. Good luck!!!
  4. My son has his first appointment for pictures in October. When I called to set it up the guy told me to dress him as plain as possible. Apparently, the picture comes out better when what the baby is wearing is not to chaotic. That way the picture is focusing on your baby and not his clothing. I personally love baby pictures that are shirtless. They looked very classical. I would do maybe jean overalls with no shirt underneath.
  5. I always picked a cute outfit that was comfortable and looked good no matter the position of the baby. Make sure there isn't a collar or strap that rides up against his face. Keep the outfit very simple with muted or no patterns or prints. Keeping the outfit plain will keep the baby as the focus of the picuture. Also, think about having a picture of him in just a diaper - use a diaper cover over the disposable. A baby body is just so cute!
  6. Try different outfits on him and see what colors compliment him. You can never go wrong with a polo and khaki's or a button down and dress pants. Make him look like a little man...just the clean preppy look. A sweater vest and a collar shirt underneath. Check out GYMBOREE they have the cutest clothes and so does baby GAP. Hope I was able to help and give you some useful ideas.
  7. I think the best pictures are the ones where they have on the clothes they like to wear. Those fussy little suits are cute and all but babies never look very comfortable it them, they always seem to be pushing up in their little faces. You should dress him in something cute that you like but is comfy for him. (but nothing with too much pattern - it can get lost in the picture - solids usually come out better on film) EDIT: You might want to keep in mind that what is in style today you son might be completely embarrassed for you to show a picture of him wearing to his future wife in about 20ish years. Go classic - I love the polo shirt idea too.
  8. It is a big decision! First, I looked at the website, and checked out what back ground options they had. I then kinda matched the outfits to the background I liked best. I dressed my girls in white dresses for a white background, it was very cute, however also very summery. So season is another thing to take into consideration. I would just put a favorite comfortable outfit on him, and bring an extra if you decide you want to change him last minute (or god forbid he has a diaper explotion, or spits up all over himself. Another thing I did was brought a little sweater, so in other poses, I put a sweater on her, so she wasn't wearing the exact same thing in all photos. Hope this helps. I am sure he'll look cute regardless what he wears though!! GOod luck
  9. I agree with Hot Couture. Put your son in an outfit that you really like and want to remember seeing him in. It doesn't matter if it is dressy or casual. There really is no right or wrong outfit.
  10. I agree that you should dress him up in your favorite outfit of his. When you go to get a picture taken, you wear your favorite outfit, so put him in the best one he's got. If you love the outfit, you're going to cherish the pictures that much more (not like you won't already) when you look at them 30 years from now.
  11. I find that plain clothes look better, the attention then stays on the face rather than being drawn away by the clothes. If its a dark background then white/light colors show up better, and the opposite in a light background. Give the photo place a call and ask what type of back grounds they offer, and what colors they recommend. You could even take a spare option or two along with you on the day, remember accidents can and do happen when you least need them.
  12. I did the same for my son at 6 months, it's a really fun age. You could do a couple outfit changes, I mean, you're paying for them, you might as well have a variety. For my son, we did a plaid button down with blue cargo shorts. The shirt was blue and green and his eyes are hazel so it really made them stand out in his pics. Another was him naked except his diaper and they put a white cloth cover over it and did some with just him and his blankie. Another was him in his fuzzy blue sleeper. try a few different things on him and see what looks best.
  13. Photos that are taken this time of year most often have a CHRISTMAS THEME to them especially as a first time parent, you will be giving beautiful portraits of your child to family and/or friends to mark his or her first Christmas... so a Christmas "themed" outfit would be most appropriate. However, if you choose not to make these photos Christmas related, since it IS fall now (unfortunately), the clothes should represent something casual yet somewhat dressy. You can also dress him any old way you want. . . when it comes to babies, nothing is really inappropriate... just remember this...... make sure the clothes all coordinate with whatever background the photographer will be using.... Rule of thumb - - - no printed shirts with a printed background---they clash horribly in a final photo... Solid colors are always best for a photo whether it is a baby photo or an adult photo...
  14. I think a baby's first pic should always be dressy. it just looks soo cute!!! :) i have a 6 month old and her first picture was in a real cute pink dressy dress and pink slippers and a little pink ruffle bonnet. I decided on that cause it was fathers day and I'd just gotten her that dress for Father's day. She was so adorable.. But whatever you do make sure he is fed before you go in!!! So he'l be real happy!! :-) :-) :-) Good luck!
  15. In my family we wear the very traditional outfits like they wore years ago. Each of us (4 generations - from my grandmother until my son)have been dressed in a Feldman brothers outfit for take home from the hospital & the "official" portrait. My son's outfit is white with hand-embroidered trains and tiny buttons. My aunt is a professional photographer for a very high end portrait studio and said that the best ones are very traditional and white. You can also change him and have one traditional outfit and one "cute" one.
