1. The Apollo 11 mission itself did do little new, but the whole Apollo program, of many missions contained many innovations, especially for medical equipment, food preparation and power generation. More important, the Apollo program also led to the development of the first hydrogen-oxygen rocket engine, the RL-10. Impact on society... huge and hard to describe. From popular culture to denial, you have all facets.
