Can creative innovations help save environment?
Hello everyone. I have to make a speech for school about the question above. In my opinion, yes, it can. But I have to give statements and I have to explain my opinion. what do you think the answer on the question is and why? maybe if some of your good ideas pop-up it'll help me for my speech best answer =best answer of course THNX

- yes. you could give renewable energy as example; wind power is now a mature technology, and coming up are many new designs of wave and tidal generator; solar is improving by the day, etc.
- According to the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC reports) we must cut the world wide emissions of Carbon to less than one tenth of what they are today, if we are to have any chance of stopping Global Warming. That is a 90% cut in the amount of fossil fuels burned world wide. The challenge is what can be done to achieve a cut in the use of Fossil Fuels of that magnitude. Essentially we will have to ban the use of fossil fuels world wide if we are to have any chance at all of meeting that target. We will need to find a replacement for fossil fuels. The proposed substitutes include bio fuels, solar and wind. Bio fuels are not available in sufficient abundance to replace fossil fuels. Also raising crops for bio fuels competes with the use of farmland for food crops. Solar photovoltaic cells to produce electricity have a cost that is more than 10 times the cost of fossil fuel. A cost that high would destroy the economies of all of the nations of the world. Wind power, although affordable at a cost of only 50% more than the cost of generation of electricity by the use of fossilfuels has the disadvantage that you do not produce electricity when the wind does not blow. Wind power is not sufficiently reliable to replace fossil fuels, although it is a good supplemental source of electricity. Nuclear power plants have been operating safely for over 40 years and and have a cost of generation of electricity approximately the same as fossil fuels. If the spent fuel rods are reprocessed to produce more nuclear fuel for the reactor, almost all of the waste is eliminated. France reprocesses the fuel rods from it's nuclear reactors and generates over 80% of the electricity that is used in France. France also sells surplus electricity to Germany. Realistically nuclear power plants are the only affordable replacement for fossil fuel that is used to generate electricity. In the United States, over 50% of our electric power is generated by coal. If we replaced our coal fired power plants with nuclear power plants in The United States of America we would reduce our carbon emissions by approximately 50%. Although nuclear power is generally considered creative, nuclear power is the only source of electricity that is avaialble in sufficient abundance at an affordable cost to replace coal fired power plants. Also nuclear power plants can be designed to produce more nuclear fuel than they consume if the fuel rods are reprocessed. If we replace our coal fired power plants with nuclear power plants that would be an enormous step to making a massive reduction in carbon emissions.
- You have to give your opinion, so you're asking for ours? If you quote the party-line, you can get an "a."
- Yes restore the cuts in clean energy production that Carter and the democrats have kept off the table for 30 years now.
