What does a female wear to a creative design award ceremony if the code of dress is 'black tie'?
Would an elegant calf length dress be appropriate and does it have to be black

- has to be black
- No it doesn't have to be black but it has to be a cocktail dress
- some kind of dress
- Cocktail dress, does not have to be black.
- It doesn't not have to be black at all. Wear any color of a long formal dress. Not crazy about calf length.
- A smart cocktail dress would do and no it does not have to be black. It isnt a funeral! Black Tie is bow tie for the men not the colour women should wear. Even a smart evening suit for the women would do. I used to have one that I wore with a cummerband and a gorgeous white shirt with a ruffle down the front. Hope you find something nice to wear!
- No, it doesn't have to be black for females. "Black tie" just means very formal. Any elegant dress will be appropriate.
- Yes a cocktail dress will be more than fine, you can wear it again too. Check out the link below and have a great night.
- No, it doesn't have to be black. "Black tie" is to specify what the men are to wear, and indicates how formal the thing is. So, it's the second highest level of formality. Your dress sounds fine. Any color is fine.
- Definitely does not have to be black. If the code is 'black tie' it is just a way of ensuring that everyone knows it is a formal occasion. A cocktail dress, long dress, top and long skirt all are all fine. Your elegant calf length dress sounds fine. Just ensure your accessories and in line with the evening. Probably sticking to some sort of evening bag and shoes in line with the outfit would be best......nothing worse than carrying a big bulky bag but I expect you don't need me to tell you that.
- Black is customary, but if one looks at tele, other evening wear in appropriate colours and matching accessories appears quite common. I would, if a lady, stick with black with white pearls.
- If its black tie then you should wear a full length dress really. Calf length is more cocktail but I am sure nobody would object and it doesn't matter what colour it is.
- as long as it is "dressy" then should be fine. I usually wear a LBD, but it doesnt have to be black. black tie means formal. white tie means very very formal! (in that instance you would have to wear a prom dress or ball gown!)
