  1. celery or mint green with maybe some light blue accents
  2. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours: http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/ I think a blue like "capri" (# 6827) might be a great choice. Especially if you use some white accents. You can take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website: http://www.roomvues.com/ You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.
  3. What color are the cabinets painted? How big is your kitchen, how much wall space is there? What other colors are in surrounding rooms in your house? Well, I'll assume your cabinets are a neutral, maybe a white/cream? Typical country French colors are the yellow and blue, Toile patterns, fringe and lace, etc. So since you had the yellow, you may want to switch to a light blue. A soft sage green would complement these colors, another option to consider. However... I'd suggest doing a muted terra cotta color on the walls, since there's a lot of rustic country French kitchens that echo the feel of pottery, iron scrolling, woods... and the terra cotta would make the room warm and cozy, yet cheery as you'd like.
  4. French country nowadays is beige's, tans, blacks and soft yellow and creams. You can always accent in any color you would like. to brighten up the look. You really want to go off of the colors you have, I think yellow is fine-there really is no right or wrong, it is what you want to see. If you are matching the cabinets and not painting them match the tone of the cabinets to the yellow.
