What decorating scheme should I use?

My fiance and I are moving into a really classy apartment. It's a one bedroom, one bath with beige walls and beige carpet. It also has beige tiles stretching from the kitchen to the dining area. I want to bring some color to it but stay classy and classic (he hates modern design). I need some ideas for color schemes we have no furniture yet so anything goes.

  1. Dark furniture, Espresso brown maybe?, off white upholstery and then lots of accent colours which you can change when you want to, for an inexpensive new look. Lime green cushions would give you a modern young look, red could give you a more classic look depending on how you use, a very pale aqua in a throw, cushions and so on. Stick with basic colours for furniture too and you can do whatever you want and change it when you want to! You can add a rug over the carpet, beneath a coffee table and pick up colours in your accessories. I would go with brushed nickle or silver metals, and glass - for lamps, picture frames, mirrors etc.
  2. some models have a house or furniture that are classic or antique that you can see, and you may be able to apply to your home
  3. dark, like a sexy brown?
  4. I would warm it up a little just to add some style to the room. Beige goes with a lot of colors so here are my choices. Click link to view. Burgundy http://www.dongardner.com/images/plans/interiors/1011great.jpg Blue http://www.dongardner.com/images/plans/interiors/1008great.jpg
  5. best colors to use with all that beige backdrop are: espresso or coffee bean brown and dark rusty red. Dark brown leather for upholstery and a bronzy colored satin for window treatments. Rust red for accents. this color scheme is classy, gender neutral, and easy to live with for a long time. Go to HD, get the color chips from Ralph Lauren: "village" (deep rust); "galvanized" (espresso brown). hold them up against the beige walls and tiles, and you will see the fantastic contrast. try to get hold of a sample of dark leather and a scrap of bronze metallic satin, you will see how it all works together.
