Has anyone purchased kitchen cabinets from Ikea before? I'm concerned with their quality. Any opinions?

I'm remodeling my kitchen and considering Ikea cabinets. I like the look and the price is right, although I've heard mix reviews and worried about their poor quality. Any other suggestions as to where I can get good affordable cabinets?

  1. You have answered your question with a question. If you are worried about the poor quality then do not purchase them. Cannot return once they are hung. Sometimes Amish will make cabinets at a reasonable price and to the design you would want. Another point is to stay away from cabinets that are made out of compressed wood. They are JUNK! HOME DEPOT where I live do carry cabinets that are not to bad to use. Check out a Home Depot in your area. I'm sure they carry the same things they carry where I live. Also sometimes if you can get an estimate from another store for cabinets you can take to Home Depot and they will match the price and give you an additional 10% off.
  2. Try Home Depot or Lowes, Good Luck
  3. Ikea is a different look and the quality I would assume to be fair. Do yourself a favor and take quotes from Home Depot or Lowes or similar places that offer cabinets before you make your decision. Kitchens either add a lot of value to a home or detract from it. If you choose wrong, your money is not well spent. So do your homework first and then make your decision.
  4. I was really tempted by Ikea's cabinets as well and had the same concerns. We ended up going with home depot, but next time I replace cabinets I'm going for a local store - one of those places where its family owned and the same people selling the cabinets are the same who are installing them. As for Ikea. I own five pieces of furniture from them and only three aren't falling apart...
  5. I don't think that you should go to all the expense and trouble of putting in a new kitchen with cheap cabinets. They will probably look good for a while and if you don't plan on living there very long, it might be okay, but if you are not planning on moving, save up and get a better quality cabinet. When installation is involved, it is wise to spend a little more. I have learned that sometimes it does pay to spend a little more when looking at something major. You can save money on clothes, food, accessories for the home but not on major items, like flooring, cabinets etc.
  6. IKEA make kitchens to a price point. That's not to mean they are not any good. They use high quality Blum hardware and I have never had any problems installing them.
  7. Unless you plan to remodel your kitchen in 2 to 3 years again, I would be concerned if I were you. I would get something more permanent.
