- Very, lighting needs to have the feel good factor, more so in the winter months. In the UK we have sixteen hours of darkness per day so the impotence of lighting is Paramount. On the market there are lighting bulbs that give the feel good feeling that also reduce electricity bill and consumption of fuels, they go by the name SAD lighting bulbs, more expensive than the traditional light saving bulbs, but they give the feeling of daylight thus giving you the feel good factor.
- Aside from the feel good factor mentioned above, daylight harvesting is a big part of LEED lighting design, also called "green" design or "environmentally-friendly" design. The idea is to reduce energy consumption. In this type of design, lighting controls are implemented to control building lights so that as daylight enters a building, lights will either step down to a lower light level, or they will dim down as daylight ramps up, the latter being more expensive but with better results. As far as referring to it as "daylight factor", I am not aware of a numerical factor used in lighting design for daylight.
