I am looking for a wall color that goes well with black and white tile that is in my bathroom.?

The rest of the house is painted in fall earthy colors (green, orange, maroon, tan) that match the beautiful wooden floors. I'm stuck at the bathroom because of the black and white tile that is on the floor and bottom half of the wall. I really wanted a color on the wall and not just white, but this black and white tile is throwing me off! I'm thinking of trying a purple?!? If anyone can relate or has any pictures that would be great!!!

  1. White or black, I would go with white.
  2. pink
  3. I think pastel colors goes with black and white. Pink or pale blue would look great. Dark bold colors would look overpowering.
  4. I've enjoyed having a black and white tiled bathroom for many years. We painted the walls white, but I could use any color accessory in there. I had primary colors and pastels, and could change the shower curtain and towels to any ol' color, and I felt like I had a new bathroom. People always commented on the many different ways I could change the room, and it wasn't at all expensive.
  5. i say wait to do anything until you can afford to rip up the tile! nothing will increase the value of the bathroom if it doesn't look cohesive with the style of the rest of the house! btw, purple, b&w remind me of 80's new wave...totally radical! haha
  6. I think purple would be an excellent color and make it really pop! Pink would also be pretty as someone else suggested, it would give a feminine vibe. Anything that is bright and would really POP is what you need, and just a little goes a long way. I have seen a black/white bathroom with the contrast color a lime green. It looked fantastic! Keep the towels white and have only one wall the contrast color and a few accessories that pick up that contrast color.
  7. why couldn't you just paint over top of just the black tiles? then that would open all sorts of possabilites as to what colors you could use. I'm sure there is some sort of paint that would cover it, and it might be time consuming but then at least you'd have what you want without remodeling your bathroom.....if you leave the tile untouched though, I think I'd paint the walls gray. Maybe even hang some black and white pics up in there or something....add some bursts of color with maybe a vase of red flowers or something....
  8. second attempt at answering... since the rest of your home has the earthy tones I assume that's your preference. So, it makes sense you are at a loss with the b/w. a tan/caramel color brought in above chair rail with paint as well as with towels and accessories (rug if you prefer) then bring in some b/w photos in simple black frames against the tan to tie it all together and soften the b/w. this will warm up your bathroom & give it a simple classic feel as well as give it some interest without a drastic color you may get tired of quickly. good luck!
  9. Red would look great! The black and white tile would make it look very up-to-date.Go for it!
  10. i say a purple and its somewhat affordable to regrout and get a grout that is colored the same as the wall to pick it up a little
  11. Everything goes with black and white.
  12. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours: http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/ I think a bold blue like "Georgian Bay" (# 6509) would look terrific with the B&W. You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website: http://www.roomvues.com/ You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.
  13. I would kill for b&w tile in our bathroom! ;) Anyway - be sure to remember that when you do a bathroom it's important to use colors that compliment your skintone (for applying make-up, etc), so although it is popular, blue is not a great choice, or green. Go with warmer colors, and take a look at the lightly tinted not-quite-whites. In our bath we used a very subtle grey and a very subtle warm pink and it turned out beautifully, and with white woodwork it really stands out. In small spaces that have a lot of white, (or black and white) you can use just a hint of color and it can make a big impact.
