- Any type of charms or small items that you can drill a hole in, like pennies. Another option is paper beads, which are cute and can be interspersed with regular beads.
- I wish I could remember the title for the material I am going to describe for you. They take salt, flour and water and mix it together and then form what they want and put it in the oven and bake it. It is long lasting and the thing about it is you can form whatever you want and knowing that it will turn brown from the baking you can paint it. If your interested you can e-mail me and I will try to find the information for you or maybe someone is familiar with this and can give you the recipe.
- You can do so much with common household items, particulary when it comes to making beads. Make jewelry: Out of paper handmade beads: http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/paper_bead_obbssesion_addiction http://www.astorybooklife.com/how-to/paper-beads/ Out of recycled plastic bottle beads: http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/recyle_and_make_your_own_beads Out of Paperclips: http://www.ehow.com/how_2074430_make-paper-clip-jewelry.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/arden-library-teens/135476467/ http://www.amazon.com/Paper-Clip-Jewelry-Workshop-American/dp/158485040X Out of Utensils: http://www.ehow.com/how_4489057_make-fork-jewelry.html (Here's an example of how pretty this can turn out to be: http://www.hairygrowler.co.uk/ffforksentwinedbracelet.htm ) http://www.essortment.com/hobbies/sterlingsilver_scpf.htm Out of Buttons: http://www.crafterschoice.com/doc/crc/TemplateData/images/SetPanel/pdf/button_necklace.pdf http://craftlog.org/craftlog/?p=2187 http://blog.craftzine.com/archive/2008/06/how_to_make_a_button_necklace.html http://thisyearsdozen.wordpress.com/2009/01/07/button-necklace-jump-rings-chain-links/ You can also use coins and make a unique necklace. If you're going to make a penny (or any other coin) necklace, there are two good ways of doing it. 1. Go to a jewelry store and order a coin holder charm. they put the penny in it and fit it correctly. it is a casing that the penny fits in and it slips onto a necklace like any other charm does. it looks real good. a gold one will run between $30 and $50 but it is worth it and will preserve the coin. 2. If you don't want to preserve the coin and just want a hole through it, then hold the penny with lineman pliers over a torch flame where you want the hole drilled until the penny glows hot and use an ice pick or a small nail and hammer to make the hole.make sure when you are pushing the ice pick in that the edge of the penny that is hot is placed flat on a non burning surface - do not drill while the Penny is over the flame.if you use the nail and hammer then place the penny on a flat surface, line up the nail where you want the hole and hit the nail with a hammer. you cannot drill straight through on the first go around so you will have to repeat the method of heating and drilling. also, you can use and electric drill with a metal drill bit. metal as in some bits are for wood, metal, or brick. extreme heat is your best method of puncturing metal. Good luck, and have fun making your jewelry! ~Clarkie
