Can A person survive on the fluctuation of commision and tips as a Cosmotologist and a Esthetician combined?

Hello Everyone. I am a 43 single still woman with two dogs who has tried it all pretty much.. in ways of work. I even attempted to go to College twice with no much luck. I had given Paralegal a wurl too. I am since a little girl a very creative artistic person. My Ultimate extreme goal is to become either a best selling author or.. a painter. I knew this since I was about 10 .. however had no help or support from family. I was an A student and could have gotten scholarships in the arts. Now.. at 43.. I am stuck at a dead end job, working because of gas prices and barely...making ends just meet, with no extra spending money for even clothes. I want to better myself. The media that I hear constantly keeps encouragin nursing. I have a good friend who is a RN and super stressed out over her career. I also read the blogs on all nuses .com and many sadly go into this feel for the security and money and admit to that on the blog. Many are complaining of burn out and injuries. I am not a good person with the elderly and I am not all that compassionate to be honest. I am passionate about art and dogs/animals. I decided.. or.. so.. I thought... to go to an Aveda School for cosmetology that will take me 11 months to complete then go for esthetician which will be an extra 4-5 months. I would then be qualified to do it all.. Hair, nails and skin care. I am just worried that although this would be creative and artistic.. that it would require me to compete with the younger gals who dress trendy and I never have. I also am worried about finances. Although .. they both bring in tips you must get and maintain clients and then eventually you will get a comission of 30-45 percent. I called a Aveda salon and owner said one gal is making 50 grand but.. this must fluctuate with the commisions and tips. I suppose.. I am not use to living on a flexible fluctuating pay scale. I may be able to eventually down the line maintain a liscense to work out of my home to do it that way too.. Aveda for those who are unfamiliar is a Hollistic organic botanicals uses to formualte their product line. I was worried also about aging in that field. Mabe.. I am worrying for nothing or too much. I also.. plan to for sure.. go there after.. to a county college for 8 months to get a certificate in floral design. The woman who teaches the class gets in leads there too. But.. I must do the later first . Cosmetology offers flexibility and you can pencil yourself in. I can then .. do both creative fields. This will enable me to leave my jobs behind when I leave them.. and concentrate on some writing coorespondence school that I plan to take.. and any other on line or off writing and art classes. Now.. that I said all that.. LOL .. I think.. I may be okay. Hey.. if I break into the writing or art area that is my childhood life long dream.. then all else can go away.. if the money follows. By the way.. all above is me and what I love to do. I want to be able to pay the rent, all my bills and car expenses and feed the dogs. I also.. want to not have to worry so.. much and often about money as I have my whole life been very very poor. I dont remeber the last time I bought undies or clothes. If I do.. I go to good will. I also want to be able to have a clear head to pursue my dreams later on. I heard the cosmetology boards are hard to pass. Not sure though. I also love flowers and colors of all sorts. I am not a glamour girl by far. But.. I can learn to dress nice. I never had the money to do so.. or incentive. Any encourgement will be appreciated. Thank You All. Ohh and I just stretched a ligament in my hip and have to have physical therapy before work. Am on light duty. And bag groceries for now. How sad!

  1. if you go to an Aveda school they will train you to do facials, nails and waxing! you don't have to do both. the only thing you wouldn't be able to do at a salon/spa is massage!
