- depends on the size of the room, and of course the flooring color. assuming the floor is very neutral, choose a color in the same family as the sofa...a lighter version if the room is small, a darker version if the room is large.
- A light or medium sage green with no yellow in it would be perfect. Sages are considered a neutral but make strong colors pop. But too much yellow in the greens will not work. With your cherry floors, butterscotch leathers and curtains it would be perfect. Bring home some color strip samples and look at them during daylight and night light.
- play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours: http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/ If you're going for bold, then I think "tempo teal" (# 6947) might look good. Otherwise, a brown like "tiki hut" (# 7509) for a more neutral tone. You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website: http://www.roomvues.com/ You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.
