- Englishman...amateur photographer He was a pioneer in photography, making his report on his discovery about three weeks after Daguerre made his process public, (January 25, 1839). The chief advantage to Talbot's method was that his images were on paper, as opposed to the metal plates required for a daguerreotype. The disadvantage was that the images, called calotypes, were not as sharp.
- Going on from the first answer, his process meant that for the first time 'negatives' could be made from which more than one print could be developed. This had not been possible with the earlier processes. He, therefore, can be said to have invented photography as we knew it, until the digital revolution changed everything once and for all. He took the first modern photograph - of the oriel window at his home at Laycock Abbey, Wiltshire, England. (been there, copied him!)
