What colleges (undergrad) have a modern approach to architectural design?

I would really like to design very modern, abstract buildings like that of Frank Lloyd Wright and use computers as much as possible so I'm looking for colleges that have a sort of artistic approach to design using sculpture or digital media as inspiration/resources. Some schools I'm considering are UPenn, Notre Dame, Roger Williams, Northeastern, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Lehigh, Carnegie Mellon, Drexel, Penn State, and Temple so any info on those programs or others would be very much appreciated!

  1. This would be like asking which art school takes a modern approach. While you obviously want a school which will respect modern design, the likelihood is that you will be studying all architectural periods in any school that you go to, because you will need to draw from the past in order to create the future.

  3. Well I go to Drexel and can tell you the architecture program is highly competitve and takes some pretty innovative approaches from what I hear. They only accept 30 students or so every year out of around 400+ applicants... a couple of my friends are in it though. Basically you go to class full time for the first two years of the program, and then after that you are put into full-time work at an architectural firm for the next 4 years...sort of like the co-op that the rest of the school participates in..but longer and more intensive. During that time you take part-time classes to finish up the degree. What happens is you end up graduating with 4 years work experience in modern architecture which is awesome. Drexel is also known as one of the most technologically connected schools in the country.. but i'm sure all those schools use a lot of computers anyways in this day.
