How to clean light spots on a pine wood wall where 2 pictures used to hang. Their "ghost" remains!?

The wall is unfinished pine, in a bathroom. The "stains" are squares in the shape of the small pictures that hung there for years. This area is much lighter that the rest of the wall around it, but it will not wash away.

  1. The light areas are not spots. They are the clean areas. The rest of the wall is what needs cleaned. Try washing it and see if it lights up.
  2. Ignore them, clean and oil the wood, and expose the wall to light. Wood darkens when it is exposed to light, and they will quickly darken to match.
  3. consider "finishing" the wall by sanding & staining.
  4. Wood darkens very gradually from sun exposure. Leave those areas uncovered and they will darken slowly.
