Can anyone help me with this boring balcony?

I am moving to a new apartment and there is a fairly large balcony. There is an overhang that provides a little shade, but not too much. I am not too proud to say that when it comes to interior design (exterior in this case), I am completely inept (also I don’t have a ton of money). It’s a top floor balcony, can get really windy at times, and very sunny. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good website that could give me some ideas on how to convert this outside space into a nice, live-able room that everyone will enjoy in all seasons?

  1. They do have those patio umbrellas that you could use for shade. I know you said it was windy....so use those umbrellas that have the angled pole....secure the pole to railing. You can also add some Christmas lights to underside of umbrella or on the railing or both. Some potted plants with flower will give you a nice smell.
  2. Patio furniture and an umbrella. Use lots of potted plants meant for sunny exposures; with the sun and the wind you'll probably have to water them every day but a patio or porch without plants is barren.
