How can someone do this to a cat??

About a week ago, my sister saw a cat in the alley near her home that looked very thin, but when we approached it, it got up and wandered off. Tonight, my neighbor caught the cat and brought it to me, not knowing that I had seen it before. We immediately fed the poor thing a veterinarian prescribed light canned food, designed to be easy on a weak tummy - she scarfed it. On a closer look, she has been severely matted for some time, and it looks as though someone took a pair of scissors to her to remove some of the mats, stopped half way, decided to shave her instead, made one good swipe down one side, and quit. Then she's found like that on the street?? I plan to make an appointment with my vet for her tomorrow to have her shaved all the way down so she can grow a nice full and even coat again - but good Lord, how can someone let a cat get in that state - or chop it's coat up like that? She's very lovable and loves to be touched - I just can't believe it. Anyone have ideas I can do?

  1. cuz people dont care any more u should adopt it.. plus kids do wat ever they please cuz if they minors cant be punished only a bs warning..
  2. Give her a comfy, warm place to sleep tonight :) a basket or box with a blanket or pillow at the bottom would be nice :) Be prepared if the cat has an accident on it. Keep a bowl of water and food nearby. You might want to put some newspaper under the bowls. You can play with her with some string :) I don't know how somebody could do that to a cat, but be happy that she's not hurt :) love, animal helper
  3. well make sure that the cat is healthy, fix her and wash her coat often to keep it from matting along with brushing it.... then declaw her because sometimes the cats with scratch enough that they mat their own hair, i have 23 cats all outdoor but one, and we just got them all fixed... oh yeah shave her every summer makes her coat grow back thicker and helps keep her warmer, also on the regular cat food take an egg and crack it over her food and mix it in with her food it will make the coat shinner and healthier, but for warning sometimes they get the hershy squirts but it works gas is also expected until their body has became used to it, and if you have a dog do the egg thing for them too it works honestly.. dont cook the eggs give them to them raw and you can even mix it in with wet food. if you want to ask me more email me at lilgurl13_14@yahoo.com oh yeah, if your cat or dogs get a dry nose and cant keep them wet put either vasiline on them or chap stick, they sell this chapstick called "Chicken Poop" use that it works and you can even use it on yourself too. dont worry its not really chicken poop. but that works too
  4. This is mild compared to the condition that i've seen some stray cats to be in. She is very lucky that you have found her and taken her into your home. She probably hasn't been stray for very long or she would have been more difficult to handle. Some cats are more prone to matting than others. One of my cats who sadly passed away this year at age 15 had this problem. She didn't like to be brushed so to keep matts off of her i used a pair of small scissors that i had used for trimming fingernails before that. I just checked her on a weekly basis and started nipping any tangled areas before they clumped down to her skin. It will be great that she's gonna start out with a clean fresh coat and a responsible new owner.
  5. You are such a kind person to help out this poor cat. I am so glad there are people like you when these poor animals are in need. I know how you feel....mine was pregnant and left to starve. I found her (in the vet's words...just on time) Were you planning on keeping her? If so, maybe have her checked out to make sure her health is ok and get her shots and spay. If not maybe try to find a good home for her. I hate to bring cats to a shelter because their outcome is not very positive for the most part. They end up without being adopted and are eventually put to sleep because of the over abundance of cats. Hope all goes well for you and the cat.
  6. Its great that she already seems to be very affectionate. She is probably really appreciative of what you have done for her. You have saved her life. Give her a nice comfy place to sleep, give her attention if she wants it, and make sure is has enough food and water. Thats really all you can do for her until her vet appointment. I don't know why people do this to animals; it seems almost evil, doesn't it? I guess people just don't care. I'm really happy that this cat found you.
