  1. Go here, click on cookbooks on the navigation bar at the top http://www.cherskitchen.com
  2. The Fannie Farmer cookbook is considered the bible of the cooking world.
  3. the best cookbook is the best recipe cookbook http://www.cooksillustrated.com/bookstore_detail.asp?PID=265
  4. I love both my BH&G and my Betty Crocker cookbooks. They are the 2 that I refer to most often - besides my recipe box! They "update" the recipes in each new edition but I have no reason to believe you wouldn't be happy with either one. I don't know anything about the America's Test Kitchen cookbook so can't comment. Maybe you should decide based on price or get someone to give them to you for b-day or holiday gifts!
  5. These are all great: Sassafras The Joy of Cooking The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook (if you have a rice cooker) Betty Crocker and Better Homes and Gardens are okay. Have you considered getting a magazine subscription? Cooks Country and Cooks Illustrated are very good. Bon Appetit is wonderful, as well.
  6. The Joy of Cooking is the first cook book you should buy. This tells the "WHY?" of cooking things which will help you learn faster. The recipes are top notch and have been tried and true for over 70 years. If you ever need to know how to cook something-It's in there!
  7. Go to the library and check out some cookbooks to see what you like before you buy!
  8. My favorite is Betty Crocker. I remember learning from my moms back in the day. I loved hers so much I got one from Ebay that was printed in the late 70's. I just think food tasted so much better then when they used more real ingredients and weren't worried about cutting things out. I also have a Rachel Ray 30 minute meal book. Its okay but there aren't a lot of pictures. I need pics so I can see what the end result is supposed to look like. **My moms got ruined in a move so I ended up buying her another on Ebay too.
