- Ikea is definitely the place to shop for modern well made stuff, but you get what you pay for, some of their very cheap stuff isn't great. I'd go dark mahogany satin on all wood surfaces and a flat light to medium stone color (to match the new sink and counter) on everything else.
- i dont have specifics for you i'll let someone else do that lol but i do have color suggstions. for your bedroom go with red it's a sexy color a total girl magnet. for the bathroom try light blue it's suprisingly calming. you can get dark blue towels and rugs with light blue walls and maybe some ocean pics. for your bedroom a dark red comforter would be good with lots of pillows which sometimes makes girls want to be all over that comfy bed! go with red and black assesories. black shelves and such. for the bath.. go with dark blue assesories. white shelves if needed. hope this is slightly helpful.
- I don't have any ideas,,,but a word to the wise,,,,Steer clear of IKEA. They sell cheap stuff that is made of particle board and falls apart with little wear and tear.
- I think that you can do well with an $800 budget.... *I would get some modern design magazines and see if anything "strikes" you a certain design look or theme... *Or find some artwork that you like and build your color palate around that....Bedding works well too.... Brylane.com Kohls.com Target.com Ikea.com overstock.com Those store may give you some idea of what you like...Or what style you like.. Are you modern, classic, traditional... *If you like modern, I think shapes like soft circles or triangles/squares in the design.. Pops of color or something unexpected like art, vases, sculpture RED, BLACK, GREY, ORANGE, BRIGHT GREENS *If you like more classic design... I think more luxury 1940's era... Browns, muted colors.. Classic black and grey think mens suits.. pinstripes, silver- art deco.. SWANKY ! *Traditional... I always think GRANDMA cozy ! Or Victorian even... Quilts and such I know that's NOT everything TRAD. but that's what comes to mind for me ! So think about a nice hotel that you stayed in and what made it nice for you... Think colors textures and style... *If you like Asian inspired you can go bold with RED in the bedroom ! Very sexy and easy to do ! Get acouple unfinished nightstands and paint them high gloss black, get some bamboo drawer pulls DONE ! *If you want serene you could do a nice dark blue wall behind the bed, and get some coordinating bedding.. TRY BRYLANE.COM they have nice sets and they aren't expensive.. I like to get comforters seperate from sheets.. I like high quality sheets... At KOHLS.COM they have 600 thread count sheets BOGO free. *Try finding a bedding set that you like and paint a wall to match... Or find some art that you like.. I like mission style furniture in a mans bedroom... It's simple, classic and easy to find ! Good luck
- First of all....no money necessary. If I lived closer to you I would come there and help you myself just because I love to help people decorate. Second...your house is not bad. It has good 'bones'. Like many places is just a blank slate with lots of beige brown and white. That is okay...we can fix it. Where To Start 1. Lighting- Take down that dated swagged chained lighting fixture because it dates the house back to the 70's. Bleh. Throw it out ...give it away...whatever you do get rid of it. 2. The bathroom looks really cold and sterile. If you want to keep the contemporary look you can. Buy stainless steel trashcans, toothbrush holders, soap dish....BUT you will have to pick towels with some color to them to add some color and warmth to the room. Find rugs and towels that match and buy them. The colors you are wanting to buy is either a rusty red or burnt orange. Those two colors are warm yet masculine and will show that you do indeed have some style. Then.....find some wall art that has the same color in it and hang it on the wall in the bathroom. This can be either a grouping of pictures or just a single large picture. The picture should be something very simple....no statement trying to be made here. No nudey pictures either. Remember that guests will be using this bathroom as well. The frame for the picture should be stainless steel as well. Not just silver....stainless steel. 3. Let as much natural light into the place as possible. Open those shades whenever possible. Buy real plants and take care of them. Plants add life to the home, buy a pet when you feel you are ready. A bird is the easiest to take care of and will also add some life to the home. 4. Lighting is a big issue in this place. Not right now....but as soon as your budget can take it...have an electrician come and help you deal with lighting issues. Add 'Can Lights'...(lights that are small circles in the ceiling) to the ceiling to update the lighting....brighten up those dark corners. Proper smart lighting will add LOTS of value to your home. 5. Add some color to the walls. Stick to colors like sage green ....still very neutral but has 'color' to it. That is a great color for the living room. Slate blue is also very nice with the chocolate brown features in this home. 6. Carry the rusty red/burnt orange whichever you choose through from the bathroom to the master bedroom. Your bedding should be rich in color....then add some white throw pillows and decorative colored pillows to the bed. Get big white fluffy throw rugs for the floor. Keep them clean. 7. The kitchen can take a little brighter color. Go for stainless steel appliances if you can afford them.....then add a small splash of color. I like red. NOT on the walls....but with pots and pans and cooking utensils. For plates and bowls ...go with the more contemporary square plain white dishes and spend your money on the flatware. Buy some nice flatware. 8. Then ...to save money.... find a seamstress that will agree to put some curtains together for you. Go to a fabric store and pick out the fabric you like for curtains. Let her tell you how much to buy and then have her sew the curtains for you. This is usually a much more inexpensive route..........or find a friend who knows how to operate a sewing machine and have them bring it over and sew the curtains for you. 9. Stay true to what you like. Don't let a sales lady talk you into buying something that you hate. Walk away.... you have been doing great already. :o) ************************************************************* Now....my best suggestion......... Craigslist.com You are on a tight budget. Search Craigslist.com to find the best deals on used furniture and unique accessories. Used is just fine. You will find great stuff on that website. The way it works is this: Go to the site. Choose your state. Choose your city. Look for the 'For Sale' section Click on 'Furniture' ....'Household'......'General'.......'Boats'....... 'Electronics'............whatever your looking for......... the list will come up and you can browse things that are for sale from people in your own local area. You will LOVE this list. I am addicted to it. ******************************************************************** Good luck with your new place.... by the way ....I LOVE the pool. Hugsssssssss and inspiration to ya!!!
