Can I negate my guilt over carbon emmisions ?
Hi Folks. As a power engineer, I design & install medium-sized power stations for remote rural towns & villages in areas of Africa, Mid-East, India & parts of Eastern Asia. These are used to provide electrical power to drive pumps for water wells, simple lighting, refridgeration to store freshly caught meats, etc. so generally vastly improves the lives of local folks. However, they burn deisel fuel, so create inevitable polution in the big scheme of things. Is this a fair balance ? Bob.

- The theory of man-made global warming has become such a powerful political force that other explanations for climate change have been largely ignored, according to a documentary screened on March 8,2007. Changes in the Earth's climate may be better explained by the sun's radiation rather than the carbon dioxide emissions from our cars, homes and factories, argues Martin Durkin, whose film was shown on Channel 4. Swings in the planet's temperature took place long before the burning of fossil fuels, say experts in The Great Global Warming Swindle. So the "single-minded focus" on cutting carbon emissions may have little impact on climate change - but could stifle the development of poorer countries which cannot afford other ways of producing energy. A number of "leading" scientists who disagree with the prevailing consensus on the greenhouse effect were brought together for the film, said its producers. It features nine professors from institutions including the space agency Nasa, the International Arctic Research Centre, the Institute Pasteur and the universities of London, Ottawa, Jerusalem, Winnipeg, Alabama and Virginia. Speaking in the documentary, climatologist Tim Ball said: "The ice core record goes to the very heart of the problem we have. They said if CO2 increases in the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas, then the temperature will go up. "But the ice core record shows exactly the opposite, so the fundamental assumption, the most fundamental assumption of the whole theory of climate change due to humans, is shown to be wrong." Increased CO2 levels are actually a result of temperature rises, not their cause, and this alternate view is rarely heard, argue experts in the film. Professor and director of the Earth System Science Center John Christy said: "I've often heard it said that there is a consensus of thousands of scientists on the global warming issue that humans are causing a catastrophic change to the climate system. Well I am one scientist, and there are many, that simply think that is not true."
- Everything we do causes some kind of pollution or effect on the environment. Fortunately, the biosphere is huge, and has numerous closed loop feedback systems that help minimize the effect of most man-made effects. You're significantly raising the standard of living of poor folks, I think a worthy endeavor. I work in the energy industry, and while it does cause some pollution, I (and the people who use our energy) obviously feel it is worthwhile. I sleep fine at night, and you should too. We should all feel much more guilty about millions of people starving to death in the 3rd world than some minor pollution.
- IF YOUR DOING IT TO IMPROVE LIFE FOR MILLIONS ---YOU HAVE NOTHING TO BE REGRETTING , KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK . GLOBAL WARMING AS IS ICE AGES IS A NATURAL CYCLE FOR THE PLANETS AND SUN . THERE ARE SEVERAL PLANETS WARMING UP RIGHT NOW ----NOT JUST EARTH , AND GUESS WHAT --NO ONE LIVES ON THEM . IT IS A NATURAL PROCESS ( OUR POLLUTION MIGHT MAKE IT WORSE---BUT MAYBE NOT ) . IT'S ALL GUESS WORK BECAUSE NO ONE WAS AROUND THE LAST TIME TO TELL US ANYTHING ABOUT IT .
- Don't worry about it as Mother nature is already recycling the CO2 to fossil fuels. It is not animal fossil but plant. All oil comes from plant as it is storing the sun's energy . The fat from animal actually came from plant. The plants take in the CO2 and give us back the O2,the plant keeps the C. The plant leaves break down into fossil fuels. The Global Warming is a lie propagated by Gore.
