How do you build a camper?
I am planning on moving to Alaska in the spring and want to build a fairly cheap and light weight but reliable camper that can also substitute as a temporary home. I own a 1997 gmc sierra. I like the look of the tear drop trailers and was wondering if anyone knew how to fit that design into a mounted camper? Like I said cheap and light weight are important because the gas is gonna kill me driving up there from New Mexico, but I need something that is sturdy enough to handle the trip and possible cold weather. Any ideas, suggestions?

- Ok go 2 a vehicle site then click build and price
- to build it your self and keep the wieght down may not be that easy unless you can do aluminum and composites, you may be much further ahead getting a winterized used unit,if you build with steel and plywood the weight goes up,if you use lighter paneling and lighter framing you wont get the sturdyness you need. good luck anyway
- This site offers some suggestions from popular science magazines. http://www.tinytears.cc/scans.html . A couple other ideas for you are to buy an encosed cargo trailer or a small horse trailer and build a bed, small kitchen, and whatever else you can fit inside. Otherwise you will probably build a trailer that is way too heavy, unsturdy, or vice versa unless you have good fabricating skills and tools. Thats the way I would go anyways.
