Wy do they keep changing the design of screw heads ??? Is it all about money ?
I mean ... there may be a need for certain applications but... as far as I'm concerned ... on most fixtures ... auto lights .... home use ... etc ... the old straight head screwdriver nd philips head are good enough for 99% of most items. The combo straight and phillips head is the best . Why keep changing ?

- It more to keep people from tampering with stuff than anything else. Especially if something is under warranty and they don't want the DIY people to attempt to fix the problem. Or on kid toys, they don't want a kid to take something apart and accidentally swallow a smaller component. I would agree with you though. It is very annoying to have Flat, Phillips, Torx, Square head, Triangular head screws heads.
- so you will have to buy speciality tools to remove the new designs. And also to deter theives. thieves usually dont have the new tools unless they are pros of course And not only the head designs but the metric crap too. come on this is the USA use good ole SAE threads and sizing. leave the jap cars metric and the big 3 cars SAE.
- So they can sell many different types of screw drivers. My husband has a tool box with about 50 different types of screw drivers as some types of screws work better than others, depending on the need and project. I agree with you. The manufacturers should have a standard for screws.
- i know exacty what you talking about.its all about money.the companies try to save money,by selling you and me that junky stuff like stars and hex screws.it seems like everytime you go working on your car,you have to get a special tool or something.
- If you think about it, its a business. If sears didn't have craftsman then they would kinda suck. They want you to keep buying new tools break them and buy more. If there were only 2 types of screws, then imagine the tool industry. lol
