Do LED lights have a future as streetlights?
Astronomers would welcome less "street-light-pollution". Would LED lights offer an improved situation for the stargazer? Are LED lights even feasible as a design choice for street lighting? What of those "Organic LED" contraptions?

- They could work but certain studies are finding that they are not good for our eyes. So it all depends what science figures out but it would save money and be better for the world.
- Yes, they are feasible. The economics aren't right yet, but that will improve with time. Any light can be redesigned to direct all or almost all of the light downwards, which will drastically reduce the street-light-pollution.
- LEDs are good at directional light so they can keep the spilled light at a minimum. However the cost is much higher and the efficiency isn't as good as sodium so you lose out economically.
- i just wonder , how would u fit a DC network to the Street lights that should be LEDs , it'll just be so uneconomic with a lot of wasted power.
- LED's are extremely efficent when it come to light produce vs. energy consumption.....LED circuits can be wired with a relay to change AC to DC. Most cities are already converting to LED street lights.
