i bought 850i jst 3wks ago. i noticed that brightness sumtyms gets out of control, lights up then dims down?
when the brightness runs out of control at any mode, text.. music ... or when using camera. then all of a sudden it normalizes again. i know sumting is wrong with its software or the unit itself. i had a 300i before and it just operate normally. Hopefully SE pepol will recheck its design from the drawing board.

- 805i what? cell phone? printer? computer? who makes it? And how did you spell the word sometimes? sumtyms? thats a new one.
- What is an 850i? Usually a manufacturer is included with a statement like that so we know what you're talking about. As far as variations in brightness, it's not uncommon these days for the "dynamic" contrast ratio model to be used in new devices. Meaning a 4000:1 device could actually be a 1000:1 device with 4 phases.
- I think you're talking about the Sony Ericsson K850i. I'm pretty sure that's just the battery saving bit, when you don't press anything for a few seconds the screen dims to save battery life then when you press something the screen lights up again. Don't think it's a problem with the phone...
- The dimming is probably because of the ambient light setting, where the handphone automatically detects the light settings and adjusts the brightness accordingly. It is not a software or hardware fault, but rather designed as a "feature". Hope this helps. I am not really sure how to disable it, but for your infomation, the ambient light sensor is on the top left of your w850i, where there is a small plastic translucent patch.
