What unique things have you taught your dog?

Our pup is going to be huge - she's really big now. We taught her to show me your 1) foot 2) ear 3) other ear 4) mouth 5) butt and 6) belly. That paid off in spades tonight at the emergency vet! The vet was nice, but I think the size of our baby intimidated her a little - until she saw the dog would happily co-operate. We also teach "mine". It can refer to other dogs, cats, visitors, items - whatever. If I tell them it's mine that means leave it alone, and they all get that. So, what does your dog know that makes them extra special and amazing?

  1. My dog can say "I wuv you" and can roll over.
  2. That's awesome .. I love all your doggies tricks! Mine is still learning, and the only trick she knows that not every other dog in the world knows is "tell me a secret" which isn't necessarily practical but I think it's pretty cute. I look forward to the other answers; I'm always looking out for good trick ideas!
  3. Brilliant things to teach her - wish all dog owners would do this, or at least get the dogs used to being closely inspected - you're so right, it pays dividends at the vets! I'm working on all of these with my 16 week old dobie - ears and mouth are great, but she's not so happy with paws (still working on that nail thing!), but we'll get there. Much better to teach them this as a game, so that when they are hurting it is not yet another scary thing that the vet is trying to do. One of my other dogs flings himself flat on the floor to 'drop dead, fred', and he also rolls over - and my daughter's pup will stand up on her hind legs to 'beg'... (never taught any of my dogs to beg...lol!). But it's not tricks that make my dogs extra special... it's the look in their eyes when I come down in the morning, and the exuberance of their welcome when I've only been out of the room for two minutes...
  4. That is amazing! Our pup Jackson is 5 months old now, we got him at 3 month. He knows the basics: sit, stay, come, lay down, speak, etc. etc. He also knows "army crawl", "dance", "dead dog", "give me hugs/kisses", and when we say "i love you" in a high pitched voice and draw it out, he'll "sing" along with us =] My other two only know the basics. They weren't interested enough in treats or toys to teach them more, the little hard-headed monsters =]
  5. Well my puppies are pretty funny my pups Doomer and Cody can play dead when i pretend to shoot them all i say is " BAM" and they roll over and even shut their eyes. My dogs can also " Tell me a sercet" by placing their mouths near my ear and can also sneeze on command. Not really sneeze just shake their heads like dogs do when they sneeze. It's reallly cute. And my Golden Retriever Holly can sing ( howl) along to Shania Twain's " I Will Always Love You".
  6. we have a 4 yr old siberan husky (siera). We taught her the usual commands, but one very special one is this: When it is bath time we tell her tub, after she gets in we bathe her, then when bath time is over, we close shower curtain and say (shake) 3 different times after wards we place towel on floor and tell her out, when she lays on the towel, we dry her then tell her hair time, at which we use the hair dryer on her to completely dry her shiny coat when she is done, we tell her how beautiful she looks and give her a treat..
