Where are community places that allow you to hang promotional flyers?

I'm running a summer camp in a new area of Los Angeles and looking for creative places to advertise. I'm researching such things as: will schools let me hang up signs? can i hang a sign at the local grocery store? will local small businesses let me hang up a sign? i'm looking to design a flyer/poster that's 11x14" that i can put up and will get people's attention. could anyone suggest good places to place such posters?

1. good idea. start early if this is the only way you plan to promote - it will take some time and repetitive postings. you have listed the right places for your posters ...don't forget sport centers. in general, billboards in schools are free-from-advertising area but if someone else has done it already you can do it, too. it is case by case. also, if you have doubts, ask the small business owners /convenience stores/ if they'll let you to do this.
