Topics to practice for web design?

im very much into the arts. and pretty much everything i have learned has been self taught. i do plan on going to school for web design and photography but im waiting to save up. with that being said i wanted to know if there was any place/website that gives different topics for viewers to use to create websites. for example they may supply photos of a car and they want u to design a website interface using photoshop or other designing programs. I am pretty creative but i want to get use to "customers" supplying me with "jobs" and for me to have to work within their specifications . thanks in advance. I know some basic html and i'm currently learning css.

  1. If your into designing sites, I strongly recommend learning coding. CSS, PHP and MySQL will help out a lot in the long run. You'll almost never design a site based on a picture, most of the time it's from scratch. You'd incorporate the picture into the design maybe, but it wouldn't be visible. In short, I'd recommend learning how to code it all, THEN learn how to design it. Pure design can be limiting.( Depending on skill level)
  2. www.w3schools.com Is probably the best place to learn everything, either from scratch or further educating yourself. And its made by the people who make 'the rules' so you can't go wrong. =]
