we are planning to get a website for our company...the S/W company we are dealing with is asking?

firstly we have a full fledged website but the current company that manges it is charging us too much. We decided to get our website designed somewhat like that with all the hi tech features from another company ...I explanied all my requirements to them even reffered to a sample website...the guy whome i was communicating with ...asked for the source code for our current website...as a software team he shd be creative and deal with that ...is that ok for him to ask source code...as he has to do nothing after that , just copy paset it doent look professional. the current company that is hosting our website is having source code as we dnt have access to that .moreover we are just getting an estimate for price i dnt wnat to disclose source code. should i go with another company as this doesnt seem professional to ask for source code and admin area...

Actually, he can just right-click on your current website and select 'view sourse' to see all of the source code. If he doesn't know that, you might want to look at a more professional provider.
Sometimes the source code can be used to shortcut the build and save some money on the design. I think it is abit early to be asking for that,however, as you are only trying to price the job, so try afew more companies. Also you may never get the source code from the original designers.
I would recommend you to hire few cheap freelance programmers from websites like http://getafreelnacer.com/ Do not pay them afront. Giving your question a star so that you get more answers.
Well you have to think of it like this. He was probably trying to save you money. If he can use some of the code then that's less time it takes to complete the job (i.e. cheaper for you) However you should just be straight forward and ask him to create it from scratch if that's what you want.
