How do I make people visit my website without using ads or spam?

i am launching a general website in the next week, it can be seen as a small ads website, but it much more than that. it is a personal project and i am looking for alternative ways of promoting my website [read: creative, honest, relevant and original ways to reach people] What i do have is time, some talents in graphic design, some cash but not much, willingness to try out new things...

1. send the link to all of your friends. also, when ever you post something somewhere (like on here) include your link at the end.
2. The best way to get traffic to your website is through Newspaper, T.V., and Radio advertising.And posting of banners and Handbills with Billboards.With this you will get enough traffic fom different states and countries.
3. I would first talk to people who have similar interests and websites, but not the same thing to offer. You could suggest that you both share links from one site to the other (s/he features yours, and you theirs). I would obviously talk to people who get lots of hits or have successful sites (and may not cost you a dime if they feel they have a good possibility of gaining profit from it). Doing this with someone in the same situation as yourself may help some, but it will be minimal - all relative to the traffic, of course. There are usually local papers and fliers where you can place ads for free, and that are distributed via snail mail, in Sunday News, etc. There is always the option of mainstream advertisement, and local ads on television. If these suggestions aren't good for you, then I hope I at least got some of your creative juices flowing in a new direction, and you find something that works! Take care.
