How can I diffuse a "country blue" counter top with wall color/trim color/etc.??

We are buying a house that unfortunately has "country blue" (a lightish grey-type of blue) counter tops in the kitchen. There are nice natural oak colored cabinets, however. We won't be able to afford to change the counter tops for quite a while so I am wondering if anyone can suggest a way of painting the walls (what color?), or something else, to help diffuse or detract from the ugly blue counters. Thanks! The cabinets are natural wood, I should say. Not just oak "colored".

  1. We have a remodeling business and I see a lot of different colors in homes I have infact seen that color and the homeowner did a pale yellow on the walls with white trim and it looked very nice
  2. You can put just about any color you desire with the countertop you described. I've used yellow and red both and they looked wonderful. Mauve, Maroon or Emerald/Hunter green would all tone down the greg/blue you have.
  3. we had a blue/turquoise kind of color on our counters and we went with beiges and greens. If you can, paint an accent wall and incorporate ALL main colors with pictures, colored bowls, dishes, jars, candles, etc. ROSS is a great place to get things for this. Good luck...
  4. go to the website for Behr paint http://www.behr.com/behrx/workbook/index.jsp you can use the site to choose a room ( like a kitchen) and see what colors look like on a wall by pointing and clicking http://search.yahoo.com/search?search=color+wheel&ei=UTF-8&fr=ks-ans&ico-yahoo-search-value=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.yahoo.com%2Fsearch&ico-wikipedia-search-value=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FSpecial%3ASearch&p=color+wheel Check out the Color wheel above Warm yellows and oranges :compliment the blue and will update the "Country Blue" French country uses alot of Yellows and Blues and doesn't look "country" See examples here: http://touchstonecatalog.com/Catalog/Style/FrenchCountry%20Style/203.aspx
  5. I think that if you decorate you kitchen in a nautical theme it may tie it right in. But that may get more costly if you have to buy all new decor items. If you have a Lowes near you they have pre cut laminate pieces that you could buy. They are very inexpensive and you could probably do your whole kitchen for under $150. Here is a website about how to install laminate.....not too hard at all! http://www.rd.com/content/openContent.do?contentId=17429
