What do other people love about their office kitchens?

I'm in charge of setting up the kitchen at my office. What are some best practices? what do people love about their office kitchens? I work at a startup with 10 people. thanks everyone! Forgot to mention that I'd also like to keep the kitchen healthy, if possible... any suggestions?

  1. this is just a little fun tip! but everyone at my job loves our candy bowl on the kitchen table. we all take turns bringing in a weekly bag of candy. different people bring different things and its a fun way to get everybody through the day :D
  2. Have flavored tea bags. Have a coffee machine that also dispenses hot water without disrupting the coffee. If you can afford it, those single cup coffee makers are really nice, because coffee gets old quickly. Have individual packets of sugar, et al, instead of the large community sharing ones. Have decent sized cups for those who don't bring their own.
  3. We have a nice Bunn Coffee maker and constant supply of coffee going. We have a cabinet load of snacks and access to refrigerators. Also, we have a stove, microwave, and a George Foreman grill. Real plates and coffee cups, real silverware and knives, can opener, etc. And, of course, free lunch from the owner every now and then!
  4. Make sure you have appliances that are truly useful...a coffeemaker that is easy to use and a toaster for bagels, bread, etc. You will need a microwave and refrigerator as well. Have a place for condiments, napkins, plastic flatware, etc. and keep it tidy. You might also add a basket with assorted teas, hot cocoa, other instant beverages. This is all fairly basic but essential for a pleasant experience for breaks and lunch.
