Is there a product designed for venting a bathroom fan through a metal roof?

I am remodeling my bathroom and would like a fan that will vent through the roof. This is normally not a big deal, but I'm a little unsure how to properly seal the vent to a metal roof. Is there a product designed to do this? I've heard that venting through the soffit is bad because moisture will come back into the attic through the soffit vents. Also regular metal flashing won't really work because of the ridges in the metal roof. I need a boot that is designed to go aroudn a square roof vent.

  1. yes it,s called a rubber boot that goes over the vent pipe, and seals to the roof, at a plumbing supply or hardware,
  2. AGREE with first answer.. proper terminology "ROOF FLASHING" it's a square peice of metal with a Rubber boot the you would slide the pipe through.
  3. It depends on whether the base is round or square. If the base is round, then William's answer is correct. But if the base is square, you will need a metal "sidewall flashing" for the sides, and a metal "endwall flashing" for the top and bottom. Either way you will need to use a high quality roofing sealant around the flashing.
  4. I installed my vent so that it vented out they soffit of my house. I also didn't want to take a chance on a leak in my metal roof. If you have enough attic space to work with. this worked great for me.
