Landscape lighting? Does anyone know of a company that can help with lighting design? I understand the wiring and voltage drop etc... I need help with the lighting design. I want to light up the front of my home (stone face)(wall wash & columns) and do some up lighting and down lighting on trees (moon lighting effect) (wooded lot -nice mature trees). I've seen some really nice lighting in my area and understand the concepts but need help in knowing what kind of fixtures and bulbs - also placement. Any suggestion on a good company? Minnesota - Twin Cities
New build home Design Center Upgrades? Which ones improve the homes value? I think I got a great deal on a new build home. Now it's time for the landscape, wiring, and design center appointments. I'm cool in all areas except the design center. Light fixtures, faucets, etc, I can do myself. Is it smart to upgrade the counter tops, cabinets, sinks, etc (major items)? The costs of these items are rolled into the price of the home at closing. OR should I wait until my finances permit and do them myself? The only thing I'm sure on upgrading is the carpet pad.
Where is a great on-line site to look at upscale home lighting? I am remodeling a home and I would like to find a web site that will show me all of the upscale lighting options available. The home is basically French Country (stone exterior, stone hood in the kitchen, faux plaster walls etc.). I am looking for chandeliers, wall sconces etc… I have been to local lighting stores but I want to be well educated in my decisions. I have never been so stressed in my life! Any other design advice would be wonderful. I thank you so much for any help you can offer.
What is the best low cost 3d home design software? I want realistic looking kitchens and baths. I'd like to be able to show skylights and lighting. Also, it has to be low cost. I mean, I don't want to spend thousands of dollars. It should be under $100 ideally.

builders and contractors, what do you look for in lighting discount? I am the general manager of a lighting showroom. I'm looking to gain more business by offering something GREAT for home builders and contractors. If you are in this field, what do you generally expect or wish you could gain from this sort of partnership? Commission for referrals? Discounts? Free lighting design?
computer 3D home design / interior design? I want to design some interiors using a 3D package for the pc. I have tried several home design programmes but I find these very limited for what I want to acheive, The choice of furniture and appliances are limited and the renders are poor. I would like a programme that allows me to design unique peices of furniture and finish with quality renders, textures and lighting effects. Programmes I have considered are turbocad 11 and 3D max but these look complicated I am a complete begineer with this sort of programme and wouldn't have a clue where to start. Can anyone recommend any programmes that will help me acheive what I want that would be fairly easy for a novice to pick up and preferably one with a printed manual rather than an online manual. Thanks in advance
How do I market my artwork (home decor/metal accessories) and grow my design business? I am a metal artist, creating bowls, sconces, lighting, etc. I'd like to develop my line more and find manufacturers for my designs where I can focus more on the designing instead of the fabrication. I'm also looking for retailers to sell my work to. I'm scouring the internet, sending images of my work, with some success, but I'd appreciate any advice on finding buyers, and how to grow my business to find licensee/manufacturers and how that process works.
Passive solar home design? For passive solar home design, it is best to ensure that the roof overhang prevents light from hitting the windows... during the winter at the equinoxes during the summer or year round?
How can you make a design for a decorative plate at home? I have a (v.simple) image on my computer, but I want to get this onto a decorative ceramic plate. I have access to a kiln as someone said I'd need to re-glaze it and re-fire the plate - but I know nothing more than that. Can you shed any more light on what I might need to do? Thanks a lot!!.
Anyone know where I can find home decor featuring 'A Starry Night' (Van Gogh) design? Looking for: Shower curtain light switch plate night light lamp also, all 3 canvas versions: A Starry Night, Starry Night Over the Rhone, & Cafe Terrace (Under $50 per painting if possible). And anything else that is related to home decor. I found a website once, that had all that stuff. But, I've since forgotten what the site is called. I've tried Google, Amazon, & ebay.
Where can I get a light beam design template? Does anyone know where I can get a light beam design template, preferably saved as an image, like this? http://home.earthlink.net/~chmoonkat/m-lightbeamsmask.jpg It needs to be quite large as I wanted to use it in a print design. Free would be good too. Thanks!
I need interior design advice/direction to make my living area workable. Does Tara Dennis do home visits?gmt? Lounge 6mx3.2m with central arch, adjoins kitchen 5mx3.2m which adjoins family room 7m x 4m via a central opening. The two openings form a thoroughfare through the kitchen. I want them to work bette/link together, remove clutter, with some design and colour advice and furniture positioning suggestions. Lounges faces due west, family room faces due east and the kitchen has no window except for a small opening into the family room It is dark and the only other light it gets is from the two openings. The passage to the bedrooms runs off the kitchen and the laundry backs on to it also. Do I open up the wall between the kitchen and family room, move the sink and put a window in the south wall? or do I completely relocate the kitchen to the other side of the room and maybe incorporate the laundry area in this process? I find when family visit the men sit in the lounge area watching TV, women in the family room with children running back and forth and spreading toys etc. GMT
Looking for the names of high-end residential lighting manufacturers? I am in a lighting course, and the teacher hasn't done a very good job of providing us with names of high end lighting manufacturers for the interior design industry. Does anyone have any suggestions for quality light fixtures? (We're talking better than the Home Depot or any of those regular retailers) This has to be stuff that is internet accessible, because it's for a project that I'm having to do from home. Thanks.
Anyone been searching through contemporary design homes/interiors? Ok this is a long shot and i very much doubt anyone will know but its worth a try. i came across a pic of a huge ultra contemporary home (think it was an apartment) in San Francisco that had seating with water around it and a bathroom that was suspend above the house. kind difficult to explain. Also the lighting looked like films studio lighting. I have never come across anything quite like it so i was wondering if anyone else might have seen it only annoyingly i haven't been able to find the pics again.
Marketing my interior design business to Contractors? I am an Interior Designer who would like to specialize in helping contractors design new homes (presold or spec). I currently work for a design center that offers cabinets, carpet, tile, hardood & slab countertops. I feel that I could be a single source for a contractor to go to for design help (since a lot of them don't want to deal with this end of it). I could also select paint colors, appliances, lighting & plumbing fixtures. I would love any ideas on how to market contractors!
Starting a birth announcement printing business from home? I want to start a home business designing and printing birth announcements and invitations. Can anyone share some light as to how do I get started? I don't need help with the design aspect. I want to know if I should invest in buying high quality printers or outsource my printing.
How do I get new construction permit lists from the town? I know Lawyers get lists , SOMEHOW, from the city halls and bombard you with information when you get a ticket (i assume it is public information after all). I'm trying to do something similar for people building new homes by offering my lighting design services - however, town halls are giving me a hard time about obtaining a permit list. Even though its public information! Any suggestions besides going to those list websites to pay for new homes?

What are industry standard rates for home staging? I've been asked to stage a few homes for a builder/contractor. I have interior design experience through furniture sales companies so my compensation has always been commission on sales. The spaces are vacant and someone else has already ordered upholstery and case goods and supposedly lighting, accessories and rugs as well.... should I charge an hourly rate? per square foot? flat fee per home? should I include a materials allowance if there aren't enough lamps or if they forgot bedding or a tablecloth or candles for the candlesticks?
Help please on my Design technology home work...Situation and brief? i am doing my a level and i doin design tech and i have to build a wind turbine(home) for a client, i choose my client to be my mom because it was more comfortable than chasing a random person everytime i needed an opinion from the client. this is my situation and brief. Situation My mom goes on a camping trip every summer holiday however her camping spot is so remote that there is no electricity service available, no electricity means no light therefore there is less chance of us using battery powered devices or devices that require electricity. My mom believes it would be nice to have at least a little electricity since much of life this days are very dependent on it. She me to design a sustainable energy equipment, She wants the method of generating electricity to be eco-friendly and pollution free. Most people are eco-friendly because there are limited resources for the future generation on earth which has caught the media attention, also reports have been going on how we are destroying the earth and is making people worried. Brief In order to help my client I am going to research into sustainable energy because you can generate electricity from sustainable source such as solar or wind after researching I will find out which sustainable technology is best suited for camping, also this means of generating electricity are eco-friendly therefore they don’t pollute the environment. my teacher said i should make it seem more convincing, i have edited it again and i want to know if it seems real and ur more than welcome to edit my situation and brief and post what ways i could make it more convincing the situation bit, my teacher says the situation is too fictional!!! and this is the bit that needs to sound convincing :) "My mom goes on a camping trip every summer holiday however her camping spot is so remote that there is no electricity service available, no electricity means no light therefore there is less chance of us using battery powered devices or devices that require electricity. Have you ever wonder what kind of a mansion is waiting for us in heaven prepared by Christ? Is it condo? Is it a country home? The design, the floor, the lighting, the wall, the furniture, the decor? Do we need a bathroom and toilet? Will there be any bed? Will all our favorite pets be there? Will be live alone or with our earthly family? Will there be enough room for souvenirs that we will collect throughout eternity? What kind of sound system and TV will there be? Do we need handphone? What kind of a window view will we have? Do we have garden?

What are the limitations in designing a custom Type-V home? Hi there, I want to build a small (1000 sq.ft.)home on a TIGHT budget. I just want alot of open space, like a loft, but I'd also like HIGH ceilings, maybe slanted ceilings, plant shelves, inset lights or track lighting, maybe a couple of columns, etc. I'm told that a Type-V home is easy to get plans approved (the home will be in Los Angeles) and approvals can take over a year if the home is complex and the plans needs to be changed several times. What cool stuff can and can't be done to Type-V standards? I've got a Type-V sheet, but I don't understand all the technical stuff. I'll get a builder to do the real plans, but I've got to give him a starting point. Feel free to point me to books/web sites, etc., and through in some ideas! Thanks!! i was trying to design a new fan for a hover home.? earth quake proof homes( the hover homes) , they hover the fan Designs were using electromagnetic electro levitation train tracks the worlds smallest of coarse, with 4 of the worlds smallest cargo levitating cars placed on top the cars was the fan made out of the lightest metal i could find so this fan became the worlds first electromagnetic levitating fans ever built any where in the world, there were 3 fans & were all 120 volt or 220 volt Single ot three phase alternating current gfi protected of coarse. signal were sent from the quake detection centers ,and the bells and whistles would start to sound as a safe gard then rapidly go in to the hover mode and the home would hover off the ground no damage possible for the earth quakes shaking ,and after the quake if there were damage the homes could be hovered out off the slab for the needed repairs then hovered right back on over the new slab of concrete and set to rest on the new undamaged foundations. still working on the drawings, what do you think pretty good idea.i took 3 hover homes and bi-leveled them on a plot as to make more square footage on opp ed as the master bed room and master bath the other the second and 3 bed rooms and the 3 rd as the living kitchen dinning rooms.nice DESIGN if they were available would think they would sell or would you buy one,if you lived in an earth quake area, for the first time ever a home that was 25% machine and 75% home and earth quake resistant. proof better than pre manufactured mobile homes. all of the utility service lines made simple connection on the out side like a Mobile home water sewer gas electric and plenty of flexing movement for the hover mode.upward.that's all they di no Navigation capabilities . air pressure from the fans.but they are electromagnetic levitating fans the huge fans are sitting on the cargo trains spinning at about 550 mph the fans in my drawing are about 25 foot radius like a very big open faced motor. spinning the huge fans. the home has safety rail in the home bath rooms tubs by door ways to hold on to there has to be some training involved of coarse as what to do when it is going in to the hover mode like sit on the floor as soon as possible or hold on to the nearest provided hand rails ,for false signals there can be sensors at the lot location in the ground .etc.
Why are there never lights in the living room of a home? My wife and I recently began looking for a new house to purchase because our current home is too small. One of the things we noticed was there are never any light fixtures in the living rooms. Is there a reason for this design? I think one house we saw had a light in the living room, every other room has a light, bathroom, bedroom, dining room, kitchen. Whats the deal??
I have $30,000 I plan to spend on updating my home. Will it be enough? Will $30,000 be enough to update my 1,650 square foot home with the following: Porcelain tiles in the bath, dining, entry way and kitchen New bathtubs, sliding doors and travertine tile design New mirrors New faucets Prefabricated granite counter tops for bathrooms Medicine cabines All new doors Tankless water heater Minimal drywall repair Closet mirror door Granite kitchen counter New kitchen cabinets New hardware Remove wall and add support beam New sink Backsplash New recessed lighting. I am only paying for labor on the granite countertops and the water heater. I can do all the rest with the help of my wife. I already painting, added new appliances, windows and a patio. What do you think?
What would you consider when designing a dog-friendly home? Imagine you were designing a home (including exterior landscaping) to be used for several decades by a family that will have dogs (various ages, breeds, personalities, etc.). Be as DETAILED as possible about decisions/consideration for floor plan, materials, placement of fixtures (electrical outlets, lighting) and even furniture design. greekman, Just curious. In your home, are you the one who handles : * mud, leaves and snow tracked in on paws? * dog vomit and other bodily fluids from sick dogs? * carrying young, injured, sick or elderly dogs up and down flights of stairs? * containing/supervising young, injured, etc. dogs? OK. Dog-friendly isn't exactly the right phrase, but it's fits in the question title, unlike "What would you consider when designing a home that will keep you from pulling your hair out just because you have a dog?" ;-) Agility Man, Thanks for all the ideas. The flooring links alone are worth 5 points. ;-)
can i dye light brown hair blonde at home? im planning on dying the top half of my hair blonde, and leaving the bottom half the natural color, which is a light brown color. would i be able to dye it blonde without actually bleaching it? could i use the loreal frost and design highlighting kit in champagne to dye it? and if not, then do you have any other suggestions? thanks.

I just bought a new home - love the floor plan but not the kitchen. Need to remodel...any ideas? Hi, I just bought a new home - love the floor plan but not the kitchen. The previous owners have put granite floors, stone tiles for countertop, maple cabinets and white appliances. The ganite is black with brown spots like pattern - it is similar to the photos posted in the previous discussion named "Kitchens I have designed". The countertop is light brown with brown grout and the maple cabinets are the light colored kind. If you can imagine it - nothing goes together in the kitchen. I am not sure if I want to change the granite floors as that extends to the family room (open plan). Currently the walls are beige and I am planning on changing that to brown (not very dark but dark). What else should I change in the kitchen to make it look look beautiful? I am looking around in the forum and see very talented and creative people here - so, I am hoping to get some opinions about this. Please do let me know. I really appreciate it! Thank you!
What colors or design should I use to paint a daycare room? I run a daycare from my home, and we are building a new room just for the daycare. What color should I paint the room? I have a light gray flooring. I want the room to be fun for the kids. I need some good ideas for a creative childcare space. Should I paint the ceiling, too?
Where can I find a block diagram for an automated home controller? I need a block or schematic diagram for an house contoller. So that I could design and simulate it. The diagram shouldn't be a very complex, but a simple one where I have output like bulb , fan and input signals from heat sensor, or light sensor. Can someone help me with this? Thanks, but this link gives me a list of commercial websites, which would not disclose the basic block diagram they use. I need sumthing where i can find a block or schematic diagram. Thanks for all the help
what kind of designer/business to see k to remodel exterior of home? I would like to change the exterior of my home including some structure to update it, paint, and addition of entry gates, doors, stucco, etc...as well as lighting and landscaping to tie in the whole look. What kind of person does it all? A landscape architect, interior designer, exterior architect? Is there a website that you can Design a Virtual Home? I want to Design my own home but I'm not to savvy with architecture and stuff like that i just want to design like a cabin style home with granite counters and state of the art lights and stuff like that without having to actually draw a house from scratch... if you know of a website that i can do this on i would appreciate it
Interior Design Help Please - Window Treatment needed!? The focal point of our home has a big design flaw! The windows/doors if you notice in the pictures follow a bay style - however the top windows the cement was poured straight (http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/expatingreece/slideshow?.dir=/ad78scd&.src=ph). We were able to get windows installed and the aluminum conformed to follow the bay style and it works well. Now I need to think about window cover because the afternoon sun comes in and really heats up the house. We brought an awning/canvas guy and he wanted to install all this iron extending way beyond the window so that it can cover the sides where bay goes in. Many have said to put the window treatment on outside instead of inside to prevent the heat from entering into the house in the first place. I'm up for that but I really don't want anything too big that would distract from the look. No designs, frills, and I do like the light coming in without the heat... Any ideas??? thanks! If link does not work below here are the pics: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/expatingreece/album?.dir=ad78scd&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/expatingreece/my_photos

Does anyone know about a simple device to use at home to detect skin cancer? I know for sure that American Academy of Dermatology's Skin Academy designed for patients a device simple enough to use at home for skin cancer detection. Also I remember watching Doctors talk show. One dermatologist showed how he used special light on skin to spot anything unusual. This show was about prevention.
I need to design/install a motion-sensor sprinkler system to keep my cats in their own backyard. Ideas? ScareCrow from Contech keeps animals out with a wide spray, too wide, and that would prevent my cats from enjoying their own yard. I just need to route the sprinklers around the perimetry of the wooden privacy fence so when the motion sensor(s) detect them approaching the fence they will get dowsed at about 3 to 4 ft in from the fence and go back into the yard and stay home. I have contacted irrigation companies here in San Antonio but no reply yet on the motion-sensory activated part of what I want, just the sprinkler/irrigation part. I have seen motion sensors that turn on lights, open garage doors, close curtains, but other than ScareCrow I have not seen any information about tripping a sprinkler system. I have even thought about the produce section misting systems that come on intermittently. Any ideas would be very welcome.
Do auto engineers design features that help to keep mechanics in the work force? We were able to do home and shade tree repairs by ourselves, most functioning parts were easy to get at. Oh! do you think they put a light under the hood to help you see better when checking the dip sticks? No! it is there so you will not notice the sparking coming out of the ignition wires that causes misfire and lower gas mileage
LED lights for the home - help? I want to design cost effective lights for use on 50Hz 230V supply. Anyone give me an idea of how i should connect the LEDs arrays? Do I have to use some resistors, will they not consume power and dissipate heat? Please explain with respect to one lamp (made of a number of LEDs).

interior design delema!!? i have a project for my interior design class, and i have to basically design a home with the color that the teacher gave me. the color is Green-yellow, and the home has to be contemporary styled. I want it to be island themed, and have a deep shade of pink for an accent color and a tan neutral color. i want light bamboo floors and i have a rug sample that's my shade of green. what color should the sofa and the walls be? the fabrics i have for pillows have patterns so the sofa has to be a solid, and i kind of wanted the walls to be green, but then is that to much green? also i have this great tropical print upholstery fabric, but i don't know what to do with it because i can't have a patterned couch. help!

I am also looking to know more on hardware required. In case you'd know who has done something similar earlier, please let me know if I'd be able to reach you on email etc. Thanks,
Opinions on trim color for finishing basement? I am finishing my basement in a more modern design with a home theater, exercise room, kitchen, an extra bedroom, office space, a wine cellar and large open game room. I am considering painting the trim black, and possibly painting or staining the doors a different color, like dk. brown. The color scheme is going to be brighter colors like kiwi green, reds and cobalt blue. The rest of the house is transitional in design with white trim and doors. I have 9' ceilings and 4 windows with several transoms of glass and glass doors to let light in, so I am not really worried about it being too dark. The flooring I have chosen for the theater is a red/geometric print, cork for the wine cellar and neutral white/brown/tan 24" tile with stainless steel accent bars. I would like to know if anyone has seen or done black trim and their opinions on it. Thanks.

Trying my best to design a new kitchen for our family home, so far: We have white appliances and have chosen white cabinets with beech doors, walls are tiled white from floor to above worktop, we would like either pale green, light sand or light beige for the top half of the walls. Question is, what colour floor and worktops do you think would look best? Thanks
why do they turn off and on interior cabin lighting during take-off and landing? here is the correct answer... Federal Aviation AdministrationRGL Home Federal Aviation Regulation Sec. 23.812 Part 23 AIRWORTHINESS STANDARDS: NORMAL, UTILITY, ACROBATIC, AND COMMUTER CATEGORY AIRPLANES Subpart D--Design and Construction Personnel and Cargo Accommodations Sec. 23.812 [Emergency lighting.] [When certification to the emergency exit provisions of Sec. 23.807(d)(4) is requested, the following apply: (a) An emergency lighting system, independent of the main cabin lighting system, must be installed. However, the source of general cabin illumination may be common to both the emergency and main lighting systems if the power supply to the emergency lighting system is independent of the power supply to the main lighting system. (b) There must be a crew warning light that illuminates in the cockpit when power is on in the airplane and the emergency lighting control device is not armed. (c) The emergency lights must be operable manually from the flightcrew station and be provided with automatic activation. The cockpit control device must have "on", "off," and "armed" positions so that, when armed in the cockpit, the lights will operate by automatic activation. (d) There must be a means to safeguard against inadvertent operation of the cockpit control device from the "armed" or "on" positions. (e) The cockpit control device must have provisions to allow the emergency lighting system to be armed or activated at any time that it may be needed. (f) When armed, the emergency lighting system must activate and remain lighted when-- (1) The normal electrical power of the airplane is lost; or (2) The airplane is subjected to an impact that results in a deceleration in excess of 2g and a velocity change in excess of 3.5 feet-per-second, acting along the longitudinal axis of the airplane; or (3) Any other emergency condition exists where automatic activation of the emergency lighting is necessary to aid with occupant evacuation. (g) The emergency lighting system must be capable of being turned off and reset by the flightcrew after automatic activation. (h) The emergency lighting system must provide internal lighting, including-- (1) Illuminated emergency exit marking and locating signs, including those required in Sec. 23.811(b); (2) Sources of general illumination in the cabin that provide an average illumination of not less than 0.05 foot-candle and an illumination at any point of not less than 0.01 foot-candle when measured along the center line of the main passenger aisle(s) and at the seat armrest height; and (3) Floor proximity emergency escape path marking that provides emergency evacuation guidance for the airplane occupants when all sources of illumination more than 4 feet above the cabin aisle floor are totally obscured. (i) The energy supply to each emergency lighting unit must provide the required level of illumination for at least 10 minutes at the critical ambient conditions after activation of the emergency lighting system. (j) If rechargeable batteries are used as the energy supply for the emergency lighting system, they may be recharged from the main electrical power system of the airplane provided the charging circuit is designed to preclude inadvertent battery discharge into the charging circuit faults. If the emergency lighting system does not include a charging circuit, battery condition monitors are required. (k) Components of the emergency lighting system, including batteries, wiring, relays, lamps, and switches, must be capable of normal operation after being subjected to the inertia forces resulting from the ultimate load factors prescribed in Sec. 23.561(b)(2). (l) The emergency lighting system must be designed so that after any single transverse vertical separation of the fuselage during a crash landing: (1) At least 75 percent of all electrically illuminated emergency lights required by this section remain operative; and (2) Each electrically illuminated exit sign required by Sec. 23.811(b) and (c) remains operative, except those that are directly damaged by the fuselage separation.] Amdt. 23-46, Eff. 06/16/94 Comments Document History Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Actions: Notice of Proposed Rulemaking. How efficient are small wind turbines for homes (not wind farms) in percent efficiency? Which small is a buy? Germany has a program ("A Million Points of Light") to install wind turbines in homes. Finland has small vertical axis wind turbines going up in cottages, on chimneys. Which is the best design for a home-power installation? What are the efficiencies of the different blade designs? Anybody know anything about the 'bent-prop' design, like this one? http://wind-farm.blogspot.com/ Does the chimney need to be reinforced? How high does the wind turbine have to be, over the tallest house in the neighborhood?

So,what would I find in a public record about my home? Well,I want to get more information about my home such as what were the original wall design and the original light specifications! Since,I am the third owner of the house, then I would want to be able to tell which thing that is a part of the house was a part of the original design or an add-on that the previous owner did! I think if I did somehow get in contact with the previous owners, then they would probably forgotton what they did to the house.
What features/options do I need to look for in a new laptop or notebook? I'm getting my 15 yr old a new notebook or laptop. He'll need it for browsing, Office applications, light web design, gaming - I know he's interested in Spore. And I think it would be fun if it could use a regular keyboard and monitor when he's at home. Is there anything wrong with the cheapest Dell laptop?

Suggestions for website or book on ideas for covering an interior brick wall in the family room? My new home has a family room downstairs (split level) with a full wall of brick with fireplace off to one side. The floor is pergo and even with lots of windows, it looks quite dark. I like interior design magazines with the light colored wood wall coverings (not bookshelves, but wainscoating?). Please point me to some websites and/or books for ideas on how to cover that ugly brick wall. Thank you.
What is the best laptop for graphic design? I'm after a laptop with certain specs: 1. i dont like heavy bulky laptops, thin & light preferrable 2. i need a laptop that is reliable 3. i will be loading Adobe Creative Suite on to it - so will need something that will perform & be fast while i'm using Adobe CS, example i will have a handful of large sized high res image files open in photoshop 4. i need something that will perform with multiple applications open & running at one time, example music playing, with 5 internet explorer pages open, messenger running, MS word running I love Sony but one of my "nerd" friends recommended a mac or a dell if i want to spend that sort of money . im not too keen on macs, and i have read online reviews of sony vaio & dell xps laptops but it has just made me even more confused. help! PS the laptop will be for personal home use plus graphic design work - however graphic design will only be occassional as i do most of it at work.

Why do some cars allow the lights to stay on after removing the keys? I asked this question earlier w/o details. I am referring to older cars (mine is and 87 Honda CRX Si) which have the annoying trait of running your battery down because you turned on your lights while driving to work in the dark and then when you get to work it's daylight and you forgot your lights were on. Then when you get in your car to go home 8 hours later, your car won't start because the battery is dead. This design as a safety feature doesn't make sense for lights which stay on indefinitely. If anybody knows if there is a delay time which can be set on an '87 Honda CRX, please let me know. Thanks.
can a graphic design tutor or similar please read my personal statement? is it any good? would you let me on the course? Graphic Design is something I have always been interested in and I have never even thought to do anything else as a career. I love clever strap lines, beautiful images and clean crisp looking final pieces. In most graphic design briefs you have to work within a client's boundaries, however in my opinion within these constraints you have the flexibility to put your own stamp on the piece and to unleash your creative flair. I take pride in my work and enjoy the developmental process from initial idea to finished piece. I feel graphic design is a necessity and without it the world would be a very dull colourless place. I am a very creative person and this subject lets me use my imagination to create stimulating pieces of work which are visually pleasing to others, and that communicate a message to the viewer either via an image or type. Graphic Design is a passion of mine and I would love to turn my passion into a successful career. My favourite aspects of the subjects are typography, photography, image manipulation and advertising. I studied for a National Diploma in Graphic Design which I achieved in 2006. During this course I gained knowledge and skills in various aspects of graphic design and enjoyed every minute of it. I also gained skills that I can apply to everyday life: I am now more confident in my work, but also in myself. I learned how to manage my time effectively and how to work under pressure. After I finished the diploma I progressed to a degree course at Bradford College but unfortunately had to leave this programme as I became pregnant. Since then I have been raising my son in my home in Wakefield which is where I would like to stay whilst I am studying as i can get childcare here. I have a great range of interests but my main ones are art/design and photography. I enjoy being creative and letting my imagination run wild. At the moment I am planning a mural of an undersea world on my son's bedroom walls. In the past I have done a lot of art/design related projects: I designed a series of flyers and album covers for a friend's band and have designed tattoos for friends. I created a wall display of my grandmother's old photographs by re-conditioning them by removing scratches and creases and touching up the lighting or contrast etc. I visit a website called www.worth1000.com where I take part in photoshop competitions and indeed I have won a few of them. I am an outgoing person who enjoys meeting new people. I am organized, good at time management and am, neigh, have to be, very reliable, as I manage my 6 month old son, my own home and my own personal goals. I am really looking forward to studying this subject as I really enjoyed the national diploma course and I think this course will give me the skills I need to progress into a successful career in this field, whilst being an enjoyable and productive experience.

If teenagers put a listening device(bug)in your home gotten from the internet, where would they hide it? The house was new with no furniture inside at the time it happened and all obvious places like above door and window mouldings, edges of baseboards and some outlet and light switch boxes have been checked. It is a one story split bedroom design with a bonus room upstairs. It has all hardwood, tile and low berber carpet and 9ft. ceilings except the greatroom which has vaulted. No ladders were accessible. Shelving is open wire type. I was told it would be very small but is audible and clear as far away as ten miles.
How do you build a camper? I am planning on moving to Alaska in the spring and want to build a fairly cheap and light weight but reliable camper that can also substitute as a temporary home. I own a 1997 gmc sierra. I like the look of the tear drop trailers and was wondering if anyone knew how to fit that design into a mounted camper? Like I said cheap and light weight are important because the gas is gonna kill me driving up there from New Mexico, but I need something that is sturdy enough to handle the trip and possible cold weather. Any ideas, suggestions?
Any Ideas on a Projector for a Cheap Home Theatre Setup? I am wanting to set-up a home theatre projector at my house. Its primary purpose will be for watching DVDs and playing video games (i.e. Nintendo, XBox, etc.). I am not concerned with HDTV. The projector will need to sit between 15-23 feet from the screen. Additionally, I need the projector to be bright enough so that a little ambient light won't make it unviewable. I was hoping to get a brand name, or reputable projector of some form, however I was hoping to not spend over $800 on the projector itself. This projector WILL NOT be my primary TV, it will ONLY be used when I want to watch a DVD or play a video game. I was looking at the ViewSonic PJ556D, it looks like its designed for office presentations but I didnt know if there is any reason why I couldn't use it for my purpose? (I read somewhere that office-projectors migh not have the right color-wheel?) Please provide me with recommended projectors meeting the previous requirements and/or ideas/things to look for :) NOTE: Based off what I had read, I was looking at DLP projectors instead of LCD projectors.

Want to make 2 new holes in room wall to refurbish & install 2 old leaded glass windows -any ideas/web sites? We need more natural light in the family room. We have 2 20"x19" leaded stain glass windows that we want to put on either side of the fireplace. So we need 2 new holes in the wall. In the past we put a hole in our basement wall to install a new window, but that was concrete block and a different situation. What we want to know is if there is anyone out there who may have added windows in their homes from scratch. We have within the past few years replaced the windows in our home by ourselves with prefab windows, so we have some experience with framing etc. We are particularly looking for a way to take these leaded glass windows, which are probably 80+ years old but in great shape, and somehow use them to create the old-fashioned design one would see in a mid-century bungalow - windows flanking either side of the fireplace and swinging open into the room from the side. Does anybody have any ideas or any website that might help us accomplish all of this? Thanks!
