What are some good design tips for a resume that will make it stand out and show that I am a creative person? One thing I am considering is doing it in a booklet style (letter sized paper folded in half, stapled in the middle). What do you think of that idea and can you offer any more suggestions? I don't care about SMC!

Creative resume ideas? I'll be applying for full time, possibly part time jobs as a floral designer in a decent size city and i was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with creative resume ideas. I want my resume to be memorable to my future employers, mostly Im concerned with the presentation of it. Since it is a creative job i would really like to put my artistic and design skills on display and show that i can think outside the box. The one idea that I am most likely to go with is to fashion a large orchid out of paper (2D) most likely a standard dendrobium bloom (something recognizable) and on each of the five petals put the different sections of my resume on it (objective, education, experience, interests and references). Not hand written but typed still. I believe that my abilities allow for this to be executed well so that it isn't cheap looking. So what I'm looking for is feedback on what you think about my idea, and if you would be able to share your own ideas as well! Thank you I will be giving my resume out to employers in a manilla envelope, my cover letter will be included
I need a creative resume idea...? I am a manager for a very popular restaurant chain. There is a job opening in their corporate office in which I meet all requirements for. The opening is for "learning designer." It's basically someone who designs training material and training tools. Any ideas for a creative resume that will really catch their attention and also show that I'm perfect for the position?
Attaching a reference letter to a resume and cover letter - too much? I'm moving to another province in 2 months and am going to do cold calls to companies and send out resumes regardless of whether they have wanted ads or not. Would I have an advantage on my competition if I attached my reference/recommendation letters to my resume and cover letter? Or would that be overkill? I'm applying for a full time Administrative Assistant position with Interior Design Firms, Publishing Firms, Advertising & Publishing Firms - creative type workplaces. Thanks! Carrie :)
Graphics people, do you design your resumes? Do you do creative stuff to your resumes, or hope your experience and portfolios will speak for themselves? Any good links you can send me to with examples of what others have done? Thanks,
i need a creative title! ideas please!? hey i need a creative resume title im currently a fashion major with about a year of experience in sales, merchandising and design. i need a snappy title for my resume.
What software do Graphic desingers use to create their CV's? Need to up date my graphic Designer CV. What's the best software to use to create a professional looking resume. I'm guessing In Design,Photoshop. But my old laptop won't let me install the full Adobe collection I have, so are there any other programs I could use to create a professional yet creative resume? Not too complicated to use either, cheers
WTF is wrong with my resume (employed graphic desiners please answer)? for the last 6 damn years, i've been trying to gain employment in the graphics field, mainly in apparel/t-shirt design. for 7 years, i have worked as an assistant airbrush artist, while developing promotional items (business cards, flyers, etc) for that company. after i was dismissed once their business considerably slowed down, i was forced to work slamming for a fish for a fish cannery. i have extensive experience utilizing the likes of adobe photoshop and illustrator CS2&CS3 for t-shirt design, plus i have nearly 20 years of illustrations skills. no matter how creative my resume is, why do employers continue to look over my resume to hire flakes? my portfolio is very extensive. i have samples of my airbrush work, as well as samples of my skills in adobe photoshop, illustrator, indesign, even videos editng samples (the latter i stopped submitting). however, i'm never given the opportunity to show what i am capable of. i tailor my resume/portfolio for whatever the job calls for. even when i was "fresh out of school", employers still overlooked my resume. even people i helped in school were getting work, and all my career advisors had to say was "well, everyone else is getting hired, why can't you?"
Resume Career Objective - Please critique? I am re-vamping my resume and I really need to redo my career objective, but have never been really good at them. If you have any experience with this, please critique my objective. I am looking for a graphic design position. "To assume a creative role designing, from conception to completion, materials for advertising, collateral and/or packaging; striving to stay at the forefront of the creative industry to be able to raise the bar for others, by setting an example of what can be accomplished with a little skill and a lot of imagination." Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't mean the last line like it sounds, but I understand that employers won't interpret it how I meant it.

How do I create a blog template of my own? I'm trying to start a resume writing business in Brazil, and I've decided a blogspot website is enough to offer my service. I'm feeling creative though and want to design my own template. I'm very good with computers, and have some experience using Dreamweaver and CS3 but that was a while ago and I'm new to blogging sites.
Resume...does what I do on my own count? I want to get into creative employment, but it has yet to happen. If I don't have much *work experience* to include on a resume that would woo a prospective business, do the things I have done as an individual on my own time count? i.e. I have a pet project in the works, based on my own design, that is to soon be selling an item to raise money for charity. Would that count?
what do i write on my resume!? :S? hey my names lauren, im 15 years old and i want to get a part time job. im completely clueless on how to write a resume or what to write or how to start it so i was wondering if you guys could help me out! my hobbies/interests are designing clothes, art, painting, drawing, being creative with makeup, things like that. :) could you please help me!!! thank you so much!
FERPA & GPA on resume? The Federal Education Right To Privacy Act (FERPA) says that for detailed information (age, GPA, student loan info, student housing info, etc.) to be released about a student, written authorization must be on file at the university from the student. I will be applying for internships this fall and my GPA is quite low. I am great at what I do (interior design). I'm creative, crafty, have a good eye, know a lot about textiles, art, and appliances, and I'm good with people. However, my GPA is so low because my first year of college I was a nursing major and it was just not my calling in life. To make matters worse, my best friend committed suicide about 5 weeks before I left for college and I didn't want to be there and I didn't care about anything. I regret that now (4 years later). My GPA does not reflect my aptitudes, interests, qualification, skills, or desire to be a good interior designer. I want a chance and I don't want people to just throw my resume in the garbage b/c my GPA isn't the greatest (2.5 =/...). So, can I leave my GPA out? Is it absolutely necessary? And I know lying is wrong... but my past is none of their business. They don't need to know I was in counseling and using anti-depressants for almost my entire first year of college. I have moved on and gotten A's, B's, and a few C's in all my classes since then. Do they have any legal way of finding out my GPA from my university??? Because I'm under the impression that they cannot because of FERPA. Thanks.
Does anyone have any tips or information on the commercial printing industry? I am graduating with a graphic design degree in December, and I am really interested in prepress, digital printing, etc. Does anyone here have any experience in this field or how to go about looking for employment? I'm currently getting my resume together and working on my portfolio as well--how relevant is a portfolio in this industry considering it's more technical than creative? Any help is appreciated!
Where should I apply after graduation to design electric cars? Hi :) I love alternative energy, as well as the automobile industry. I am getting a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and I would love to design electric cars after I graduate in a few years. I want to actually design them and brainstorm with other engineers to come up with the best solutions to problems, where i can really get creative. What are some good companies to work for? And what position should I apply for? Also, I want to get my masters, but I don't know if I should get it in Mechanical Engineering or Business Administration. Which would benefit me the most? I want to move up in the company and even manage other design engineers. I just need some guidance, and any advice as to what to do to get involved in electric car design, what would look good on my resume, and if mechanical engineering is even the way to go for what I want to do! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
are two associated degrees not as good as a bachlors degree? I have a business degree and am looking to start up my own business. To better my creativity I have decided to get a degree in graphic design. I am torn between spending the additonal money and time on a BA . The counslor of the school is pushing me toward an A.A because she says I have the business side down I just need the creative side for my business. I just feel that two A.A degrees will not look good on a resume if my business should fail.

How do you write a resume's experience section with only freelance work? Here's the deal. I'm an award winning completely self-taught freelance web designer and new media developer with five years experience in the field. It's about time I write myself a resume. What I can't figure out though, is the proper way to go about writing the experience section. I offer design, development, marketing, and technical solutions to small businesses and creative individuals and have worked on 80+ different project's for 25+ different clients. Some of the projects have been contracted and others have been sponsored on completion, but I've never really been 'employed' by any one company. I know I can't list my project's out and the experience I had from each, because 80+ project's would make my resume way to long (as it needs to stay under 2 pages). I was tinkering with the idea of listing out my services I've provided and explaining what experience I have in each but in the experience section your supposed to write what you've accomplished, not what you can do (right?). Does anybody know the correct way to go about writing this? Please help!
Do non-degree Certificates make a difference in your resume? I'm interested in accessory design and writing so i figured i'll take a few courses and get a certificate from FIT and Parsons. I'm getting my Liberal Arts Associates this winter and plan on majoring in english and art. I'm 24 and finally know what i want to pursue in life and somehow i have this urgency and feeling my time is running out. This is why i'm taking these courses( to earn a certificate) to better my chances in advancing, example:promotion at work and writing gig. With this said, can i really advance with just a certificate in creative writing and graphic design? Pls help. Any advice will help.

What should I include in a costume design portfolio? I'm a senior in high school and i've been taking costume design at my school for 2 years. My teacher is having us do portfolios of our work and she told us to add a 5"X7" picture of the costume we made (be it an onstage picture, the costume on a manniquin, or the actor modeling it), a description of the costume/VERY brief description of the play/production (time period, etc)/assignment. and a resume. What I was wondering is, should I also include sketches of the costume? Like, if I thought of doing the costume one way then it evolved and I did another sketch which then became the final product and that sort of thing. For schools and employers looking at my portfolio, will they care about the creative process or do they just want to see the final product? I plan on applying to FiDM in 2 years or so and I want to start putting together a great portfolio starting now. So sketches, yes or no? And also, I've heard that people add swatches of the fabrics they used on the costume, how would I go about adding that to my portfolio? Do I glue it to a piece of cardstock and add it? We're using 3-ring binders and plastic page covers for our portfolios? Are there better, more professional portfolios out there for fashion/costume design where we can add fabric swatches and small samples of notions? I know it's a lot of questions but I don't see my teacher again until another 2 weeks and I really want to know these things! PS, I know that for a digital portfolio the fabric swatches might be completely useless but I'd like to keep a hard copy of my portfolio for easy viewing at job interviews and such.

Does my employer has the right to do that? Ok, here's the story, it's been affecting me a whole lot, so I decided to share it. I'm a student who graduated with an associate degree in Marketing, and although im from Canada, where it is very possible to get financial aid for post-secondary education, after a couple years, the numbers still add up. So, after college, I still had in mind to go to university, but I wanted to see what was there for me in the workforce, so I went and looked for a job in quebec. At first, I needed something quick so, I went and applied for a job at a calling center. Three months later, I noticed in the same building, a company, specializing in web marketing, web design, and web optimization. So, I went and got some information. I asked the secretary if I could speak to a manager. She told me to bring my resume, and if they are interested they would call me back. So, that's exactly what happenned. I got a phone call from Mr. A telling me if went to come over for a job interview. At that moment I was really excited about all this, I really thought it would be my chance for the job I was looking for which integrated sales, creative, design, innovation, and a lot of technical skills together. So, I agreed to meet him for an interview. The interview lasted well over an hour, and what made it so interesting is the fact that me and Mr. A turned out to have the same last name, and the low probability of a minority having that name. So, we laugh a couple minutes about it, then he ask me about my origin, my education, and every that is said in an interview. But the irony made it that this interview was in no way stressful and very informative. In my interview, I told Mr. A about the projects I had in mind, my strengths and weaknesses, to really let him know what he had in front of him. At the end of the interview, he said that he would get back at me to let me know of the results. Two or three weeks later, he called me to let me know that I was chosen for the job. I was so happy, I called all my family to let them know. Next time I met with Mr. A was to discuss the terms of the contract. Briefly, it was my salary for a year, my job title, what I should be expected to do for the company, privacy terms like, sharing of technology, strategies or tactics of sales, client information, etc. The contract also had a clause stating that they could take me to court for breach of contract or any damage. It also said that if I get fired, I cant work for a competitor who's market is the same as theirs. I took the time to read it over and over, to understand everything, and finally after 2 weeks, before I signed it, I discussed it one last time with Mr.A. On my first day of work, I was introduced to everybody in the office. In total, not more than 15 employees. we were 5 in the sales department, including Mr. A who was there to oversee everything. The first 2-3 days were strictly training, I was working with one of the employee who really thought me everything about everything. He thought me how the softwares worked, the sales process, and what everybody does in the company. Mr. A helped me improve my sales pitch, and also showed me the softwares that he was working on. I thought Mr. A was the owner, but it turn out to be someone else. And that someone else had his son working there too. At first, I didn't think it would be a problem. I worked with mostly young people, I thought they would be able to relate on some ideas, But I was wrong. On my first day on my own, Mr. A was gone to a meeting, son comes at me saying (with a lot of hand gestures in signs of professionalism) "Listen Dave, I've been listening to your call for the past 30 mins, and it seems like it your first time doing this type of work? And he came back a split second later, before I could even say anything " It's not to offend you, no, no.." I told him that's how I've been thought to do it the previous day with Mr. A." And then he said " Listen Dave, that's not the way to do it, if you want to do something, you have to do it right." and then a split second later he said " and we're[the company] gonna show you how, don't worry." He said "From now on, if you have any concerns, you either come to me, if im not here, you go to my father." Since I was never raise to be disrespectful to people, I kept all I had in mind to myself. Next day, Mr. A was only there in the morning, but announce that he was going to a different office. when he left, son came to me and said " Here, I have this pitch I need you to learn and memorize." (That's after I worked with Mr. A on a pitch). And then he said something about this pitch being worth 26,000$.(The owner's son studied in psychology, so everything he says is in terms of theory, and he tried to used that on me.) At that moment, my job title changed. Basically, everytime I would get a potential sale, I would pass it to him, or to the other guy. On monday we had a meeting with the owner in the board room, where everybody hahd to tell him what th

Graphic Design employment agency in Orange County, CA? I'm a graphic designer in the north Orange County area, and I've been looking for a job for about a month with no success. I am already on job sites like Monster and Careerbuilder, but they don't seem to helping at all because it's impossible to stand out to potential employers when they have a million resumes to choose from. I also frequent craigslist, but I feel like that is a very similar situation. I really just need a full-time job that's not too far from home and pays decently. A couple of friends of mine got jobs through an employment agency, but that particular agency specializes in office and clerical jobs, not creative jobs. I specialize in Photoshop and Illustrator, and I also know InDesign and MS Office, so I'd like to find something that fits my skills that is not entry-level. In short, does anyone know of a job placement agency in or near the Long Beach/OC area that can help me find a graphic design job?
Is purchasing Adobe Creative Suite, a Wacom tablet, and a drafting desk tax deductible? They'll be immediately used to assist in portfolio and resume preparation before a job search, and possibly in the future for other illustration and design. I am currently employed, and could, in theory, use the software at my office to do this, but it would raise eyebrows and be indiscreet. In order to deduct those purchases, will I have to file for miscellaneous income by taking on freelance work that utilizes them? Thanks Walter, thanks Is there a minimum amount of income I need to earn using the software for it to count toward a deduction? Does it need to be my primary source of income? Does doing pro bono design work make any kind of difference?
Is this a a "rigorous" academic resume? Trying to get into college!? I'm taking harder classes than most people at my school...but I'm still feeling a lot of anxiety about college apps next year (I'm a junior right now.) My top choice school is Northeastern University in Boston. Freshman: English 9, Honors Algebra I, World Perspectives, CP Biology, Wellness, Photography, CP French I Sophomore: CP Literary Composition/Critique, Economics, CP French II, CP 20th Century american Novel, Intro to Graphic Design, Web Page Design, American Government, Honors Geometry, CP Chemistry, Honors Algebra II Junior: Honors Pre Calculus, CP Creative Writing, CP Classical World Lit, CP British Lit, AP US History, Honors French III, Gym Senior (next year): AP English Lit, Advanced Composition/Research Methods, AP Psychology, AP Calculus AB, Honors French IV, Microbiology/Forensics, Guitar 1 I got all A's for quarter grades in my classes, with the exception of three B+ 's sophomore year. All final grades are A- or A's, except for Geometry which was a B.
How do you land a good job in marketing/advertising/branding when your resume is predominantly business/sales? I need some advice. I have always wanted to be in the creative field but it seems I have gotten myself into an inadvertant jam. I began college as a double major in interior design and business with visions of being a business savvy designer, but no one told me how pretty much impossible trying to do both of those AND play college volleyball AND try to work...so something had to give and it had to be interiors due to time and being a poor college student who couldn't hardly afford supplies. I graduated with my marketing/biz degree and worked my way up to a pretty good gig in business/sales. Being that I am a 20something who deals with consulting area top CEOs all day and works with every part of the company is nothing to scoff at...and it's definitely getting me steps in the right direction, but frankly we are worked to the bone and I am grossly underpaid for what I do...I know everyone says that but if you saw the work we do and what our paychecks look like, you'd say the same thing. I figure, now's the time to get out and do it. I want my true love of the swanky eclectic design agency employee. Now, I have 2 years of college art/design under my belt, and I know that I can't realisticlly apply for the true design positions (although I am shooting myself in the foot for at least not doing graphics!!!) but how can I get into these design positions and have them look at my creativity + business knowledge (which as I've talked people, most don't have both) and look past the fact I haven't had true agency experience? I do marketing of all different sorts, PR, branding, you name it...but my title doesn't say anything like "marketing manager" etc. BTW I am heading back for my master's...would love to get a small associates in graphics and maybe this is the way I need to go before I really have a chance at it. Any help and advice would work. Thanks!
I need an opinion on my Cover letter? I am applying for a job at the Apple Store as a Specialist. this is the cover letter I wrote... Also, I want to make my resume creative so that it can stand out from all the other ones that are on a simple white sheet of paper. I wanted something professional looking and not too crazy. I'm a graphic designer so coming up with it is not the problem, but I wonder if it's appropriate for this job situation?? Here is my cover letter: This is to let you know about my interest to apply for the opportunity to become an Apple Store Specialist. As early as 2004, when I received my first Macbook, I have been extremely enthusiastic about Apple products, which has oriented my life toward computers and graphic design. During highschool years, I upgraded to an iMac outfitted with Photoshop and Illustrator, and took graphic design courses that led me to become yearbooc graphic designer during my senior year. Now, in college, as a graphic and commercial arts major, I have had the opportunity of freelancing professionally for marketing and advertising tasks. In the mean time, working at Young at Art Museum in Davie, I have gained intensive knowledge in costumer service experience. I enjoy communicating with people at different levels, be it costumers or team members, eager to relate with audiences. I love working in a team sharing ideas, strategies, and learning from eachother. If given the opportunity to become a member of the Apple team, I have no doubts that I will prove to be an important assent, both as a sales person, technically proficient in Apple products, and a team player with warm interpersonal relationships. If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone at ------ or by e-mail at ---. I look forward to hearing from you soon. With much appreciation, --

Since 2008, I developed and self-managed a successful online jewelry and collectibles business, where I was awarded Ebay Power Seller status for my consistency with good customer service and high quality merchandise. I also developed and managed a Website for a family owned construction company that required proficient use of applications like Cyberduck and iweb. By developing flyers and business cards that I distributed at local events I helped the company build community exposure and expand its building contracts for an additional year. Recently, I served as a content writer and copy editor for the Rescue Mission’s monthly newsletter. Part of my duties included writing copy for a 20,000+ audience, performing editing duties for the CEO and other executive staff, and designing and managing a smaller biweekly newsletter for the Rescue Mission Youth Program. Working with the organization required proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite, the creative ability to cultivate and successfully manage an online blog that raises awareness of child homelessness, and good knowledge of the Associated Press writing style. Among the rewards was building a loyal readership for the Rescue Mission’s social media channels and attaining a celebrity endorsement via his Facebook fan page. My principle goal is to invest myself into an enterprise I’m passionate about, and to diversify my skills along the way. I am a firm believer that education does not stop after college and that striving for self-improvement in my career and my personal life will maximize my ability to approach goals successfully. I look forward to speaking with you in the coming weeks about how I can help promote your marketing team. Best Regards, Stacey XXX PS: I will follow up in two weeks to confirm that you received this material, and to inquire about setting up an interview. Edit: It's actually "improve your marketing team" I'm sure you know I meant "cover letter." My 3-year-old was nagging me as I was posting this and I wrote the wrong word. Originally I did not have the PS. I posted this here yesterday and someone suggested I add that. Why do you have to be such a complete jerk about it????? Well, "Curious". At least we know my research/investigative skills are not inept. It's easy to personally attack someone from behind a computer, but your anonymity is now exposed!!! It must be nice to sit your 250lb miserable butt in front of the buffet at Disneyland, Sarah Colnic!!!

Can someone help me with this cover letter for a writer/copy editor internship position,? I know I should be good at this since I'm applying for a writer/copy editor internship, but it is so nerve racking knowing that I will be judged based on what I say and how I say it. The place I'm applying is an organization for urban renewal and redevelopment, which is something I am incredibly passionate about. I'm not studying urban politics because my school doesn't offer this program, but I am invested to writing about these issues and I'm not exaggerating or trying to butter up the reader by speaking to these interests (though I'm afraid I may have gotten off-track since its for a writing position). I repeat myself a couple times, trying to figure out the best wording and construction. I really need help, and need to just get this out already. Thing is, I sound like an amateur in this letter, and I am, but I am driven and an enthusiastic student, I know I can do this well and improve given the chance. Here's what I'm working with: : Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to express my interest in the writer/copy editor internship position at _____ I am currently working towards a bachelor degree in English from the University of _____ and I believe my writing and editing skills make me an excellent candidate for the internship position. I am confident in my ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines and given the opportunity to demonstrate my writing skills, I will prove an asset to the organization. I have enclosed my resume for you to review. In addition to my English coursework, I see the internship at ____ as an opportunity to am eager to intern at an organization, where I can utilize my skills in writing, editing, research and critical analysis, while working for an organization that is committed to urban renewal and innovative social change. In addition to my studies in English, I gained invaluable experience writing and collaborating on urban sustainability and revitalization projects during my time volunteering for the ____. My writing and editing responsibilities at the community development corporation ranged from note-taking to compiling letters and funding proposals. While negotiating the political, social and economic dynamics of grassroots organizing, I became committed to writing about social change and urban issues. As my resume indicates I have tremendous passion for efforts that promotes rehabilitation and urban revitalization. My background in urban planning and development and my writing experience and education compliment the requirements of the writer/copy editor position as well as the organization's larger directive. I am dedicated to work that requires rigorous effort, thoughtful vision and open-minded creativity. I am a strong advocate of urban renewal and sustainability projects and see great potential in creative planning and design implementation. Given my academic pursuits, communication strengths and writing experience, I believe I have the qualifications and energetic drive that make me an excellent candidate for the internship position. The confluence of my passion urban social issues and my enthusiastic appreciation of language and my experience writing and editing have pushed me to think critically and write objectively. as part of the collaborative process or urban revitalization. Thank you for considering my resume and I look forward to your reply,
I'm so Confused, Which Class Should I Take? I am a sophomore in high school, and I am about to enter me second semester. I have to choose between three classes. 1. Creative Writing 2. Web Designing 3. Chinese (Mandarin) I think I want to take Chinese, but I'm not sure how it would look on my college resume if I have three languages. (Latin 1 and 2/ Spanish 1/ Chinese 1.) What would they think off this? I want to attend Duke or UGA. I don't even know what Web Design is! How is it beneficial to my education and college choice? And I do not want to take Creative Writing. I'm in AP Lang., and I think that is enough writing for one calendar year. Which would you choose? Thanks!
Any grammar mistakes in here that need fixing? Landri is a board game with a game play mechanic based on the players diplomatic negotiating skills and coming up with creative useful strategies on how to boost their own financial economies and even defeating other players militarily. There are countless ways players can implement their own strategies however they choose, weather they wish to use tactful diplomacy getting on other players good sides or to force them into co-operation through military means. Playing time can very significantly however the game is usually paused or ends when all the players have come to mutual agreement. When playing each player keeps track of their own progress using specially designed paper sheets, so if the game is paused it can easily be picked up and resumed again at a later time or day. Landri does not have dice or any other objects that interject luck into the game play whatsoever. In all honesty this game is not for everyone, and is aimed toward the more intellectual hard core board game player and may not be best suited for players looking for a quick and easy finish. It's important while playing the game that the majority of players fully know and understand the rules to have as little confusion as possible while helping other players learn how to play. The rules at first glance can possibly seem a little complicated but once you have them down the game is actually quite easy to play and is excellent for anyone who enjoys fun board games with in depth strategy and conflict. fiiix it pleease! lol
can I say something like? this is gonna be in my resume so just you know. can I say something like: Multi-tasking capabilities, with a creative skills in multimedia and web design like is it in a good grammar structure with a clear meaning also, can i say something like Solid Knowledge in laptop, desktop, workstations and networking environment please help me and Thank you so much
How much would you pay for...? ...a site to house your web design, art, or business portfolio & resume? I'm not talking one of those cheesy "drag-and-drop-your-crud" sites, I mean an actual folder to put all of your own .html, .css, .pdf, .php, etc files in... ALSO, if you don't have those files (the actual site, resume, etc) but you DO have design-ideas (.psd, .jpg, etc) for your portfolio site, how much would you pay the hosting site to make the designs "come to life" as a website for your portfolio? ((Please no random rude remarks, just give me a general guesstimate of what you think people would pay for a service like that, I'm fully aware that there are lots of free "do-it-yourself" sites out there, but I'm trying to make a name for this part of my site as specifically for awesome creative digital portfolios)) The idea of this is that you just give a potential employer a link instead of a billion gigs of file attachments, lol...
Any feedback on my cover letter? This is an e-mail that I'm attempting to send to a graphic design firm. Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to express my interest in applying as a Graphic Designer for your company. I have overall experience in web and logo design. I possess five years of working with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Microsoft FrontPage. In addition, I am a creative thinker who pays a lot of attention to detail and I am able to combine ideas and concepts into branding, print, and web designs. I am enclosing my resume and my portfolio to this e-mail. I appreciate your time and effort in in reviewing my qualifications. Please feel free to call me at 678-699-6742 so that we can discuss this opportunity further. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, (Name) I'd like for you to know what you think before I send it in. I didn't see any postings but I just did a Google search for graphic design firms around my area and decided that I could apply.
Learning music vs. learning to write - which is easier? Background: I was a lousy writer growing up and through practice picked up some pretty good skills - I can usually find errors in a copywriters resume. I was never visually creative growing up but now I'm a web designer and I have a very good eye for a good design which I developed over 5-7 years of doing hundreds of websites. So my questions are: 1) Can I expect similar results with music?...because I don't really have a good ear...I can't listen to a pop song and hear the tonality of the chords. 2) Will music require the same...or perhaps more...commitment to mastery than writing and web design did? Is it something that would need hours a day?
Help! I done something terrible, that will probably ruin my future? In advance, sorry for being so long! I was fired from my odd job on campus as a figure model where I pose nude. Last night, I was supposed to nude model for a teacher's night course which starts at 6:00. The weather got really bad around 5:30, like it started to freeze rain, and it was only going to get worse throughout the night with ice and snow accumulations. I told the teacher that I couldn't model for him tonight and that I had to leave since the roads were starting to ice over. I have a new car that I can't afford to total it driving in tretcherous weather. Already, there were several stahls and accidents on the highway, a winter storm warning issued by the national weather service, yet, my teacher wasn't understanding and he still had class going on and desperately needed a model--he viewed as being "just a little drizzle." The teacher got pissed at me and said something like, "Look! We really need a model! I already told you several times that I will dismiss class early if weather gets worse, is that not enough?! You have a responsibility! I'm talking about right now! And class is still going on!" I said my personal safety and making it home in the snow is more important and that the weather will only get worse. I had to leave before I would risk getting the car totaled! He insisted that it was just light sleet then and then said something like, "Well, hrcdrc, if you leave now, then I can't hire you to work with me, and I will have to dismiss you for the rest of the semester. You cannot work here anymore then! I need someone who is more accountable and dependable." I told him I need to go NOW because I'll be stuck in the snow here, and he still got mad and tried to keep me there when the weather was getting worse by the minute. After that I said, "Well, I'm sorry, if it's going to be like this, then I can't work with you, I must go. You can fire me if you need to." It then looked as if he was slightly throwing a fit and said, "Well, I can't work with you either, you just cost me my entire class. I can't believe I spent twenty minutes talking to you about this!" He then just walked off down the hall. Even though I won't put this odd gig on my resume or use him as a reference since it's nude modeling, this teacher who fired me is the new chair person of the art department on that campus, so my chances of getting another job on campus or anywhere else are ruined. Ultimately, my future is damaged since I walked out on him, and this could possibly get me expelled from the campus. Would I have known by now if I got expelled from the campus? I've never been fired before. I'm overqualified for jobs such as a waitress and retail because I'm really old at 25 with a degree continuing my education--I know this for sure because I applied for other places and never heard back from them. The jobs I'm actually after is graphic design, big wig jobs like The Creative Group need the experience, not just the degree. So, I'm taking an internship-like course on that campus which meets T/Th 12:00-2:30. I call my project group leader and my teacher (not the one that fired me last night) to let them know I won't make it in because I'm snowed in. My project leader, also one of my classmates was very understanding and was surprised that the school didn't shut down. My teacher was fine with it, but she had like a cold aggravated tone to her voice and said, "Well, we have do have our first client meeting with "group A", are you in that group?" I said no, I'm with "group C", and I already let my group leader know. She said, "That's fine, see you Thursday" I felt really bad, because judging by the tone of her voice, I could have sworn that she was pissed at me. I don't want to be one of those "bad" people who will walk out on major company, and everyone will laugh and say, "oh, it's just a little snow, you're fired" I'm certainly a really bad person for caring about my personal safety and saving the risk of getting into an accident like several other people did on the road today. Wow. I'll probably get fired from this class as well, due to dangerous driving conditions. According to the school website, they shut down the campuses early at 4pm today. Hopefully I'm overreacting and that this teacher from last night was a jerk? I wonder if I just need to chill the **** out, and that I just take my life way too seriously?? LOL, yeah, "ordering Big Macs from the Library" That's actually a really funny and creative way of looking at this. I may choose that as best answer depending on what else responses I get.

Could you give me suggestions about my essay to make it better, and edit it please, i am in eighth grade? Click! Flash, Flash, Flash! Animations are running through the page, with the greatest designs on the computer popping out of the screen! Where does this come from? Can I be in this business? The answer to these questions is yes! My dream job is to be an art director for an advertising company. I began wanting to have this job because my step-mom exposed me to the Adobe Programs. Then, I began messing around with the programs. Eventually, I learned about her job, as well as what she did through, “Take your child to work day” After that, I knew I wanted to have a job just like hers. Jobs in general aren't easy to get, lots of work would have to be put into it. First of all, I would need to get a degree in Graphic Design, without that the advertizing company would most likely not even look at my resume. I would need to attend college for at least four years to acquire the degree. Secondly, I would have to learn how to exercise all the adobe ( Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc.) programs efficiently. This job is perfect for me because it allows me to be creative and I love advertising with adobe products. This job is also is right for me because I enjoy designing websites. Getting the job is hard work, but its well worth it. Website through website, you will always see something new and exotic.
Classified ad seeking employment. Good idea or bad? I've moved to a small town with few job opportunities and I'm currently seeking employment. In addition to saturating the area with my resume, I'm considering placing a newspaper ad seeking employment. Maybe in the classifieds. I've never seen this done before and would like your input. Here's what I've come up with so far: Educated, creative individual seeks part or full-time employment in marketing, advertising, PR, graphic design or related field. BA from Purdue University and 5+ years experience. Will consider all positions, including entry-level and assistant. I'm a quick learner who is highly motivated. For complete resume, call XXX-XXXX or email XXX@XXX.
I have had several great interviews where it is clear they really like me. I have yet to get hired; what's up? I am currently seeking employment in sales; I have extensive experience, both retail and wholesale, as well as management experience (in a design showroom) with an emphasis on excellent customer care. For the record, I am educated, very hard working, "think on my feet", not ugly! (blonde; not the least bit ditsy but definitely have a good sense of humor) and am very creative (in many areas). This may all sound arrogant but I can back it up; I have to state these things as it leads to my question. I have been a successful artist with my own company for the last eight years but the economy has taken a serious toll on the art & design industry; therefore, I need to seek employment as we don't have a money tree planted in the back yard...so, despite the credentials, and the great interview feedback, what am I missing? I have been seeking diligently with a good resume, good referrences, follow-up calls and thank you letters, I am beginning to think I am jinxed!! Thanks for your time-
I am a marketing major that is graduating in a year. Is it legal to create...? Is it legal to create marketing materials to beef up your resume? Lets say it was posters and videos; would I get in trouble for using copyrighted items such as logos and trademarks to create something an advertising agency might create? I have some background in web design and filming and editing videos and would like to know if the below scenarios are viable. Example: Diet Pepsi. I like drinking Diet Pepsi and would create a 30 second "TV commercial" that I think a typical advertising agency would produce (although on a much lower budget and scale) Example 2: Video games. Lets say a new highly anticipated video game will be coming out and I then go and create a typical 1 page magazine advertisement for it. Question 1: Is it okay for me to do both? Question 2: What if I decided to upload both the video and poster to media sites such as facebook, youtube, and my own personal website (like in a list of "fake ads" I've made) Question 3: I know credit should be given where credit is due, so if I clearly state that I do not own any of the copyrights and trademarked terms in both the videos/posters/websites somewhere, would that be ok? Question 4: Is there a correct term for what I want to do above? Creating fake ads to showcase my creative talents. Sorry for the lengthy question, but times are hard and jobs are scarce...companies only seem to want to hire high gpa / Ivy league students or even accomplished professionals for entry level positions. I thought by doing this, I may have a stronger resume and be more competitive for an internship! Thanks in advance!
Why didn't obaama "fix" the economy in his own country? That's right libs; simple question. After your boy, the pope obaama, got his education (that somebody else paid for) in this country, why didn't he go back to indonesia where he's from and revolutionize that third world country? What about his other home away from home Kenya? If your imported lib genius obaama is such a creative innovator, why didn't he go back to Kenya and work miracles there? In fact, that would be a great idea for a resume that this guy didn't have when he ran for President in the first place. For example, my experience in electronics is somewhat well versed and not some novice from ITT tech. My experience is in troubleshooting and not design. Yet I'm scrutinized in not having enough experience in a "specific" area. What experience and/or resume did this President you elected have? What credentials does this Indonesian have for you to hand this guy over $850,000,000,000.00 carte blanche, that this country doesn't have, because he says it's in my/our best interest, "or the economy will get worse?" Who the frig is he? I'll tell you who. Some imported lib socialist who read enough about U.S. history in Harvard or wherever in order to create a perverted interpretation of that history. Now, back to my question about his friggin homeland. Why were they cheering with outstretched hands when you elected this guy President? I'll do you a favor and answer that. It's because their own perverted destitute countries don't have anything to offer. The United States does, or rather did. Therefore, now that their homeboy rep is President of the United States, things are gonna "change". It's going to change alright; like casting pearls before swine. They know they don't have anything, so it's time to pilfer the country that does. I hope you lib socialists can afford the change because I know I can't help support that many pigs. More importantly, neither can future American citizens after me; that is, if there is a United States left in the future. Sorry to ask more than one question at a time, but here is another one. If you libs are so altruistic, why don't you move to indonesia or Kenya and "change" things there. Don't forget to take your leader obaama with you. Then, when you make your utopia of economic progress and prosperity in those freak countries, Obaama's homeland, then you will have a leg to stand on; vis-à-vis your democratic party's rant about change in the United States (?)
Should I finish my Associates Degree or transfer for my Bachelors? This may be a bit long, so I apologize but I appreciate any advice I can get... thanks!!! Okay, so I've been going to a community college for 3 years because I tried a little bit of everything (art, advertising, legal studies, etc...) and I have FINALLY decided to pursue a career in graphic design/advertising. I didn't think I was really close to having any degree since I had taken such a weird combination of courses. Well I found out that I am 5 classes away from an Associates Degree in English, Social Sciences, or Liberal Arts. I originally wanted to transfer in the fall to go for my Bachelor's in Creative Advertising, but should I wait and finish my Associates next semester so I will at least have a degree on my resume? I have had a really rough time finding a job since I got laid off, so I'm considering doing night school anyways... What should I do? Forget about the five classes and transfer? I will be able to finish my Bachelor's Degree in 2-3 years. Or, should I take the 5 remaining classes (which should be easy since I got the tough core requirements out of the way early), and graduate with an Associates Degree in December. Will it help me get a job if I have my Associates?? Thanks!
Need advice on how I can change careers. Sick of Corporate Life? How can I change careers to get out of the Corporate Rat Race? I am 32yo, I have a Masters Degree in Biology and 5 years of experience in software systems for Life Science companies. On top of that I have 4 years of Business Strategy/Management Consulting experience including 3 years of International Experience and 1 year of Managing consulting teams. I live in NYC and just want to get into something cool, creative and without that "big business" feel. I am happy with a low salary. Nobody seems to respond to my resume for these positions. But I somehow want to get in without going back to school. I'd like some kind of Media, or Design type work. Any ideas?
How does this sound? Think it'll work? Alright, I'd talk to my husband about this first but he's busy at work so I thought I'd just get some opinions from all of you. Ok, I'm 23 and I want both a career and a family. (Sigh, don't we all-- I know). Well, I did the research about waiting to have a kid and my family is NOT a fertile one (mom had two miscarriages and took parents forever to give me a baby sister.) So, I was thinking... I could get an Associate's Degree in Web Design (Webmaster), a Webmaster Certification and then I thought I would also take courses in Micro and Macro economics, and Contemporary Math (linear & exp growth, statistics, and personal finance), a photography course, a creative writing course and a Digital Art Course. That would take three years to complete. Webmaster's average salary is $50,000. I can handle that. And on my resume I'd list all those other courses saying that I am a webmaster but I also have the knowledge of how the economy works, what the trends are, how to ANALYZE these... trends, what the best course of action would be (as a Webmaster) from a business and economic stand point... plus I'd have an artistic edge that is so important these days in advertising. What do ya'll think? And that way I can have a kid by 26 and a business that I would have control over.
I am seriously really depressed. no money, no friends, no job, no boyfriend. no reason to live. no answers.? i am 31 yrs old . i can't get a job for the life of me. I havebeen doing web design for 8 yrs and i can't find work in my field. I can't get a job doing anythign else due to my resume of computer work. I've tried for 2 yrs to 'fix' this situation and nothign is working. i have no money to be joining yoga and spending money on all these fancy things rich people do to fix theirs lives when theres probably nothing wrong with them. I sit in my apt. with my laptop tealing the internet from neighbors trying to find work. I can't find a single job doing anything. oh! i should mention. I'd rather die then work at mc donalds.. so that's out of the question. I have no friends really, just a bunch of people that tell me im great, creative and they are my friends but i actually don't believe them. I haven't had a love interest in about 10 yrs. I'm pretty much a waste of space in society and im kind of tired of optimistic people telling me it's easy to change. trust me i've been trying for 2 yrs.
