Questions about restaurant interior design? I would like to start my own coffee restaurant one day and I had a few questions. How important is the interior to the customer. What are customers more receptive to in terms of appearance. Is there a science to how a restaurant should look? Are flat screen TVs a bad idea in coffee restaurants? I notice places like Starbucks and Caribou do not have these in them. Gordon Ramsey criticized one owner for having too many screens in his restaurant though he did not mention too much on why. Is there a difference between European and American restaurants when it comes to appearance and looks. I would be grateful if someone could recommend some books/ links to read and learn on this.

Is there a name for the interior design where they nail a bunch of random items to the walls? I've been in more chain restaurants than I care to admit and they all seem to have the same interior design cues. A bunch of garage sale fodder is invariably nailed to the walls; old board games b-movie posters from the 50's...sometimes they'll go as far as to find memorabilia related to the area. There is a Ruby Tuesday's in my area that has items from the local university and high schools on the walls. Is there a name for that kind of design?

how to explain his interior designs are tacky? my bf is helping his mom's struggling restaurant by overseeing renovations. except everything is horribly mismatched (different styles, time periods, and colors) and TACKY. if it's not plastic, it's wrapped in uneven sheets of metal, and sloppily painted. they just added a giant hanging "chandelier" that's shaped like a UFO, complete with sterotypical green/red dragons and lights on the sides. it's ugly as sin. how can i explain to my bf that it's tacky, or even what tacky is, and tell him it makes the restaurant look cheap, not classy, and that it won't appeal to the rich people he wants to reach out to? he won't listen to me, even tho i'm really into style and fashion! help please!!!! true, but i care too much b/c he's my bf of 4 yrs and we plan to get married someday, and his mom is in a lot of debt, so this is pretty much her last chance

What to call a french restaurant? My class has been given the task of creating out own restaurant. We have to create a menu, design interior/exterior, create a theme etc. The theme I have chosen is French, except I'm completely stuck on what I should call it. I was thinking "Little Snail" that I was really happy with, and when I told my teacher of this idea she laughed and said that last year she went to a French restaurant that was in fact called "The Little Snail" and advised me to think of another name. Anyway so if anyone could help me think of a good, creative French restaurant name it would be delightfully helpful :) TIA

Great restaurant in NYC? I'm celebrating my 22nd birthday next week, so I'll like one that takes in reservations just days before. Bill's paid by me, so how about a group of 3-4 people for under $250? (with or without appetizer) My friends are not the type who eat at fancy restaurants, so the food shouldn't be too strange, though i like trying new tasty things. Great interior design, bars, and entertainment are great bonus. Active neighborhood would be nice since dinner might start early in the evening.

Is this a good essay? (the title was "what does math have to do with your hobby")? Mathematics is the science of numbers and their operations, interrelations, combinations, generalizations, and abstractions and of space configurations and their structure, measurement, and transformations. Every aspect of life has something to do with math. Therefore, one cannot live without it. Nowadays, we use math without even realizing it. Interior design is one example. When designing, I sometimes need to work on a budget. I have to know how much is needed, in order to know how much to spend. Painting my room is one example. How will I know how many buckets of paint to buy if I don't calculate how much wall space there is to paint? Geometry helps me stick to that budget. Also, getting measurements of my room floor in order to put carpet or tiles requires math. Putting drapes on a window or door requires me to measure the material and the window or door. This is all mathematics. "Measure twice, cut once", a phrase used for woodworking, means you have one chance to cut a piece of wood so, be sure you have to right measurements. Cutting wood for furniture and adding the furniture in a room requires a little math. I calculate to know if there is enough room to add a couch or desk. Feng shui is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics believed to use the laws of heaven and earth to help one improve life by receiving positive qi. It has measurement requirements for furniture to allow good "chi flow". For example, when sitting at the deck, your back should never face the door and there should be a solid wall behind you. Golden ratios and equations are used in Interior design as well. Room dimensions are drawn to a scale (1inch = 1foot, for example). Proportions are sued in interior designing. Small cushions on a sofa look better together than big cushions. And, when hanging pictures, it's advised to do a scale drawing of the wall. It is always good to experiment with proportions. Like, put a large lamp in a small room. Symmetry and positioning are also very important in interior designing. Symmetry designs are recommended when it comes to interior designing. Mathematics plays a big role in everything in life. From dribbling balls on the basketball court, to serving tables at a restaurant, to even designing a room, math is important. Without mathematics, life will be miserable. any thing i can add? your thoughts count.

what is a fair salary for this job? it's a full-time (40 hr) position in a small independent kitchen shop/restaurant. I would be in charge of all purchasing for the retail aspect of the business, developing a new bridal registry program, increasing the scope of product offered by bringing in table linens and dinnerware, etc. to boost the registry, customer service, training 2-3 sales people, receiving all merchandise, checking it in when it arrives, and developing the merchandising/visual plan for the store and windows. I have ten years retail experience, several years as a manager, and several years in merchandising and interior design. Should this be a strict wage/salary position or low salary and high bonus based on performance? I was offered $1600 monthly plus monthly bonuses of 5-25% of the business' increase over last year numbers...I was expecting in the neighborhood of $35K ann. plus small performance bonuses monthly or quarterly.

Would you happen to know a decent program that will allow me to do a floor plan as well as interior design for a restaurant? Thanks for your help. P.S: I would buy a program for me an the other person in my house, but I don't have the money right now and neither do they.

Restaurant Start-up? Hi, I have a degree from a culinary institute and have worked for a restaurant for almost 3 yrs now. I'm planning to start a restaurant with another person; but unfortunately neither of us are familiar with the business and architectural side of the restaurant business. So if anyone have answers to these questions, I'd appreciate it. 1. I'm planning to hire a professional architect to do the interior layout of my restaurant. But do I start looking/hiring the designer/architect before I sign the lease agreement or after? 2. How long does it usually take to get the entire project completed? (the restaurant will be in california) 3. What kind of permits will I or the architect need during the design and construction phase of the project? 4. How much would it cost to hire an architect to do a 1,200-2,000 sq ft project? Thanks!

can a child think and act as an adult? if given the same treatment and environment as an adult? i'm doing an interior design dissertation that involve children, a space that has the same exact replica of our normal environment but in a smaller scale to accomodate children, it could be a restaurant, an office, cinema, etc. i was hoping that when a child is exposed to what our normal routine are, they are capable in dealing with everyday difficulties. it can be a way to educate a child to think or at least behave like us, in dealing with problem the sane way. and thus lesser child abuse cases. please provide your thoughts and help me identify faults and weakness in my proposal.
I don't know whether to be an Art teacher or Architect. Which one is right for me? I've been an artist since I was 4 years old. From doodling to cartoons to comics to still life and recently I'm really into painting. But at the side, I always felt bad that it was the only thing I'm good at. Everyone knew I was well of in art, but I felt like it wasn't enough to satisfy my parents. Not something to be extremely proud of. I've always had this guilt feeling like that. I've taken interest in Architecture because I've grown to have an interest in house layouts and modern building structures, and interior designs. I'm taking Architecture courses now in the summer, I found it interesting at first. It was challenging, and I liked thinking differently in a way where beauty lies in structures and functions, but as the course leads on, it's getting to the point where we're suppose to already know how to read such complex diagrams, and perform well in the next week. Maybe since it's a summer course, it's moving faster then I would like it to be, but still, I'm not sure whether I'm taking architecture for the right reasons. I'm not sure whether it's for the fancy career or if its a true passion. Art, I had a passion for, but seem to have lost it. I really want to get it back. I feel like would have to go through an art career or at least major to find it. I don't know if I want to be the designer a cafe restaurant or be one of the paintings in the cafe. What should I do?
restaurant city layout? this is a ridiculous question perhaps but on restaurant city on facebook, i have changed the layout, decorated the outside of my restaurant, and furnished the inside... but when i tell my friend to go check and tell me what he thinks of it, it's no different. it has the basic, untouched design on the outside, and completely unfurnished inside. my character's clothes have changed as they should but NOTHING else changes. it's been days now and my friend has checked back for me numerous times yet still NOTHING. no changes. basic exterior, basic interior. what's going on?!?! thanks for any help xx
Are all these saturated businesses? Publishing (books, flyers, magazines) 2. record labels 3. Button making 4. t-shirt printing 5. webstores & startups that never get pass the local community 6. Restaurants 7. Retail office supplies, computers 8. Computer repair 9. Interior design 10. web design If so, what are some other businesses that are too many out there and would not need more? If not, what are places that'll welcome these businesses in demand?

I need help with proof reading my essay Please help? X-Hale and Roti Thank you Mr. Gates for the opportunity that you have provided with helping me to realize my dream. With 300,000 I have come up with three influential and revolutionary business ideas that ensure success and to do well in the market. First one is a going to be a hookah lounge called the “X-Hale” and from there I will also operate my online business called “X-Hale.com. My third business is going to be a restaurant called “Roti”. In these economic hard times I believe my business will be affordable and will appeal to the common consumer. First business I am going to invest in is X-Hale hookah lounge located in Des Plaines, IL near Oakton Community College. Proximity of the hookah lounge is going to bring in more students who are going to be my primary faction of customers. The products I am going to provide is hookahs, different flavored tobacco like Traditional, Kiwi-Strawberry, Lemon, Mango, Margarita, Mocha Latte, Orange, Papaya Mango, Peach and etc. Also, along with these products I will provide customers with Hookah accessories that include Hookah Vase, Hookah Bowls, Hookah Hoses, and Hookah cleaning supplies. Also I plan on serving homemade Asian desserts, Middle Eastern drinks and snacks. Even though other Hookah lounges carry the same products my business is going to be more service orientated. It will also comparatively be less profit oriented which will have the appeal to customers, mainly Oakton students, coming back for more. I will also introduce a commission base to make part of the basic salary for certain products. Hence increasing the positive compactions amongst employees which in turn will increase sales and customer satisfaction. I will be investing $150,000 total. It will include $125,000 for the location, exterior, and the interior design. $25,000 will go towards the inventory and $5000 will go towards homemade products. Second business will be on-line which will be operated from X-Hale’s location. It will offer the same products with higher price and will come with incentives. 1 out of every 20 customers will receive a coupon to get 10 percent off when they visit to X-Hale. I will spend $25,000 to set up a computer domain and additional system which will operate 24hrs a day. I will spend $15,000 on X-Hales website and advertising, I will advertise on Facebook, Myspace, newspapers, and in local colleges. Furthermore I will visit local colleges setting up booths and advertise X-hale lounge and online business by passing out flyers and coupons. Another 10,000 dollars is going to be spent on bringing in packaging materials and also for elaborate decorations on the office of online business. It’s going to be successful on the fact that it will be an attachment of the X-hale. Furthermore, it will receive much of its advertising in the hookah lounge itself. This is going to indirectly promote the online business as well as the retail location. Thus both the online as well as the X-hale would actually be complimentary to each other. The third business I want to do is an exquisite high end Middle Eastern/ Pakistani and Indian restaurant. It will offer a wide variety of Middle Eastern cuisine. Its location is going to be in the heart of downtown Chicago. The menu will contain about 25 different varieties of dishes including kebabs’, hummus, biriyani and other traditional cuisines. The customer group targeted at is mainly people of Asian origin. As Chicago boasts huge population diversity in this matter it will surely help the business. The spicy food of the East already has earned a good amount of praise among other cultures. Furthermore it will present a difference experience from the traditional fast food customers hence it is likely to attract more people from the busy outskirts of the city. It will essentially contain people trained to prepare exquisite Asian delicacies. A wholesome amount of 90,000 dollars is going to be spent on the interior and exterior of the store which will include the necessary machinery. The other 10,000 dollars will be used to build private rooms that have specially enhanced features. Further details is going to be done on the encroachment of sound and extreme care is going to be given to see that the restaurant provides both atmospheres—the calm and peaceful one or the noisy and joyous one—under one roof. Once again I thank Mr. Gates for the award. I hope to have these businesses running in 6 months. I assure you that we will provide quality service and theses business will always remain customer-oriented. Our priority is to make X-hale and Roti into a common household name and I sure hope that each one of you will help us with your mission.
Feel like an outcast? My whole life I've felt like an outcast. I don't have any best friends just friends i hang out at school with. Majority of my cousins are grown and those that aren't either live in another state or have other plans and don't consider me hanging out with them. I'm either at work or at school. When I'm not at school or work then i'm at home. I'm hardly ever invited anywhere (movies, restaurant, etc.).I'm always asking my mother to go to the movies with me b/c i have no one else to go with. I don't have a boyfriend ,never been in love and never been kissed. I go shopping by myself. There are times that I'm invited to go to the movies with someone or to a sleepover but that's like twice a year. I don't understand whats wrong b/c obviously something is wrong with me (am i ugly? do i smell bad? do i have something on my face?) I can't be ugly b/c every says i should be model (even ppl i dont know. no lie). I love to have fun, love movies, reading, and music. I'm very ambitious, I want to go to college and major in finance, human resources and interior design and become a financial planner/ real estate agent/ interior designer. Have all A's and one C in the devils class AP Language (the teacher is horrible). I know what i want in a boyfriend. And i know i can be great friend. Well i am to my classmates but I'm just waiting for someone to be great friend back. I watch movies all the time and i think that it has alot to do with my head being in the clouds. I want the romantic love you see in romance novels and movies- that has alot to do with my standards for a man. the "IT"boys at school say that I stuck up but really they never spoke to me to know who i truly am. Everyone around me has a boyfriend and go out on weekends which makes me feel lonely and out of place. The only friends i have is music, movies, and books which is kind of depressing. My parents are proud of me b/c i'm so open minded and not one dimensional. I into the green movement and i try to get my parents to be Eco friendly which is very hard b/c we have know ecofriendly clothing stores and whatnot. We just have recycling companies that don't really recycle everything. They oppose composting but i don't what i can. I just hope and pray that my future is so much brighter than my present and past. Any advice you have for me. What do you think is wrong? want more any info just ask.

The competive, companies include Starbucks, The Coffee Bean, Pet’s, Dietrich’s and other major chains, who serve average quality drinks in establishments that have the same generic design appearance. Indeed, Starbucks and The Coffee Bean are often referred to as "fast food" coffeehouses due to their "cookie cutter" design. Now that Americans' coffee preferences have broadened and matured, many are asking for more from their coffee shop. Design Coffee Shop can fill this need for more sophisticated shop. Market Risks MARKET OPPORTUNITY Ownership The Design Coffee Shop is a general partnership between Lisa and Sandy Mason. Each partner is equally l involved in operation and management of the shop, each to her own abilities. Location and Facilities The Design Coffee Shop is located in the Old Town section of San Bernardino, California. We currently own the building we will occupy, though painting and renovation are sorely needed. Products and Services Description of Products and Services The Design coffee shop will offer high quality coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and cappuccino, at a very reasonable price. Future Products and Services Within the next three to five years we expect to branch out into catering and offer homemade pies, whole or by the slice. Comparative Advantages in Production Our low overhead and cheaper pricing will be the key to our success. Industry Overview Market Research There are other businesses that serve only coffee in our town Size of the Industry Nationally, the coffee shop industry is quite large, but in somearea, there are more. Trends This industry is booming at the present time, and there is a trend toward small cozy places and away from the large generic chains. Industry Outlook The coffee business does not show signs of slowing down. With new innovations such as flavorings and additives, it should continue for a long time. Marketing Strategy Target Markets Our target market is a artist and writers who need a nice quiet cozy place to think and do their work. Description of Key Competitors Of the three coffee shops in the area, one is a large chain with a very expensive product, one is really a home-style restaurant, and the last one, our biggest competitor is an antique store with a "tea room". Analysis of Competitive Position Our pricing strategy and comfortable atmosphere will be the key to our success. None of the other shops in the area can offer this. Pricing Strategy We will offer three sizes of drinks, small $1.00, medium $1.50 and large $2.00. Our cookies and brownies will sell for $1.00 each and selling a booket of artwork for $10.00 Promotion Strategy We intend to advertise in the local newspapers and offer a "frequent drinkers club" discount to our best customers. We will also send out ads via direct mail, which will include cents off coupons. Management and Staffing Organizational Structure Our organizational structure will be a simple pyramid style with the owners putting in as much work as the employees. Pyrimid a tall hierarchical structure, in other words, then I would be the boss, with a general manager working as your employee, who has a team, that on its turn supervises the employees. I think I mean a Flat structure (with the owners being “one of the guys”) Management Team April and Arlene will share management and supervisory responsibilities equally. Arlene for the morning shift. April for the afternoon shift. Staffing We will hire two busboys and two waitresses; these will be recruited from the local high school. Labor Market Issues In this area there are many high school students looking for work, part time or full time, we want to fill that need. Market Risks The main risk is monetary. The area may not be ready for a place like ours and we may not do a great business. Implementation Plan Implementation Activities and Dates 1. A superior-tasting product backed by a unique quality store A relaxing, upscale interior design Prime site selection with an upscale affluent population, year-round tourist activity, heavy pedestrian traffic by the site, a dynamic student population and a concentration of local businesses A market that exposes Dark Roast Java to high-profile "trend-setters" and "key influencers" Ongoing, aggressive marketing Highly trained and friendly staff Multiple revenue streams including gift items, gift baskets and coffee gift/frequency cards in addition to coffee, pastry, chocolates, tea, juice, water and soft drink A dynamic website with online sales capability 2. My wife is having an affair. What should I do? I just found out my wife is having an affair after a friend saw her kissing him during a date at a restaurant. It wasn’t long (since February 19, 2009 she says). I’m just devastated, angry, jealous-I feel so betrayed. I never expected her to do this. We’ve been best friends for years but we’ve only been married for a little over a year (we wed December 3, 2007) I really believe she is apologetic. She literally had a panic attack when I confronted her. She said she was sorry and that she was just an idealistic dreamer (what does that have to do with it?) and that she has become spoiled, take my efforts for granted and has unrealistic expectations. She told me that it wasn’t because I was doing anything wrong. She told me I was her beautiful, romantic, chivalrous gentleman and her white knight and ray of sunshine but that she married me for the wrong reasons. She said she married me because 1) I was in love her and she was flatted and it felt so romantic and she loved that I loved her and she was afraid she would never find anyone who loved her that much again. 2) She had just broken up with a very abusive boyfriend (who she was with for four years) 6 months prior and she wanted to be rescued and wanted safety, security, and stability. 3) She wanted to be married. She wanted a fairy tale romance and she wanted to be Martha Stewart/Bree VandeKamp/June Cleaver/Donna Reed etc. But after she got that and the honeymoon phase ended she felt dissatisfied and started having an affair with the guy who used to be her English professor. The dude is 24 years older than her (she’s 27, he’s 51) but she feels they have more in common (literature, cinema, the arts, cooking, music, interior design) and apparently the affair wasn’t just about sex but them going together to the opera, museums, classical music concerts, the theater, antiquing, wine tasting, outdoor cafes or staying in and cooking dinner together. He’s like her secret second husband that she has been seeing and sleeping with pretty much every week! I want her to stop seeing him and she agreed but she wants to remain friends with him and I don’t want her to do that. The guy thinks he’s fallen in love with her. But she says she cares about him too much to just push him out of her life. So I asked her if she would rather have him than me and she said she didn’t want a divorce because she needs me. I’m emotionally exhausted but I still adore her and love her and I want to forgive her but I don’t know how I can trust her. How we can salvage our relationship if the only reasons she is with me is because I love her and offer her safety, security, stability and the change to be a retro housewife? We are already attending couples therapy. I’m having a tough time dealing with this. Is this relationship worth saving? What should I do? not sure if it's important but my wife has mixed anxiety-depressive disorder and obsessive–compulsive personality disorder ricky, I doubt it. I knew her ex and he really was a total psychopath. She was not crying wolf at all. And no, her professor is single. He's a widower. to answer whoever asked I didn't notice because I work 60 to 70 hours a week now because of the recession. and I did know that those were her hobbies and I did take part in them with her when I could but probably didn't enjoy them as much as her... boyfriend btw I'm older than my wife. She's 27 and I just turned 33 last month McLovin...not cool I have not intention of "getting back" at my wife by cheating as well. I don't just hook up with people and I would never intentionally cause her emotional pain. I'll be the first to admit she shattered me and she may be flawed but she's not evil and I'm not looking for revenge. I really do want to see if it is at all possible to forgive her and heal our relationship. I really don't think he's getting tired of her any time soon. He's wanted for nine years. Pretty much since the first day she took his class. He wants to marry her. Seriously. His wife died years ago and he wants a young wife because he doesn't want to bury another wife. He is grooming my wife to be his wife.
70 jobs, not a clue what to do next? Any ideas? I am 48. I've been taking care of three kids, parents with Alzheimer's, depression and a painful back--bulging disc. I am going crazy and need to do SOMETHING with my life! Something for me. So--I got on anti-depressants--they are doing their job. I'm in a better frame of mind and they also help with the pain in my back. My dad passed away a couple months ago and my mom's new Alzheimer's meds are doing great. 16 yr old is still giving me grays--but, hey--he's 16. That's his job. Details about me--I've travelled extensively, I've had over 70 jobs (yes, sometimes 2 or 3 at a time) since 15--most between ages of 15-30. They were learning experiences. Had a college journalism scholarship, left after first semester to travel. I had my own restaurant. Last two jobs were as a barista at the airport and four years as a weekly columnist for the newspaper. I'm good at many things and a very fast learner. IQ is around 140-but that means jack if you don't expand upon it. I can write, draw, do interior design, sell, speak in front of large groups, teach, know most all crafts, cake decorating, most computer applications, makeup artist, organizer, fund-raiser, and many other things I can't think of at the moment. All this yet I can't figure out what I want to do. I feel like a frumpy, fat, old woman. Last couple years has sorta taken the wind out of me. Any ideas? Never been fired from a job. I have different resumes depending on what job I would want. If it was in the food industry-I used those type jobs, etc. With the exception of one job--I've gotten every job I ever interviewed for...
what would be a good job for me? I am looking for a job that is at least like 12 dollars an hour. What i am good at is: -I don't know if i am good with kids but for some reason kids like me. -I am good organizing and telling people what they are supposed to do. -I can be creative but i would like to be creative with things that you just can't get wrong. -I understand people and even though i tend to be shy i can respectfully talk to people and do my job I tend to be clumsy when i am overwhelmed so i couldn't pull off a really busy large restaurant for sure. I like to work around people but not were i trying to win people over on my idea or trying to sell something. I would like to work indoors but i also don't like sitting in a desk all day. Things i like to do: I like feeling that i am important I like to do new things. I am adventurous. I like helping people. I love the feeling of a new project. I like to think things up and think of new ideas and using them. I am not so creative with my hands unless it comes to like interior design and putting together a cute outfit but i also don't want a profession as a clothing designer. I want an associates degree. If you can think of ideas for me for an associates degree or even a job that i can have with only a high school diploma would be great.
Where do I go from here? Any ideas? I am 48. I've been taking care of three kids, parents with Alzheimer's, depression and a painful back--bulging disc. Does this sound like a good career for me? Well, I know I can't describe myself entirely in this paragraph, but I'll try. I am 13, and I love it when things are really organized and clean, but at times I can be really lazy. I am very studious, and I try to do my best in all my subjects. I'm shy around other kids and teens that I meet, but I communicate pretty well with adults that I either know or don't. My best friend is my sister, who is 12, and I spend a lot of my time with her. I started using home/interior design software when I was 9. I have been really interested in designing the floor plan of and designing the interior of homes and buildings, such as libraries, schools, restaurants, etc. I think I have a fair amount of style, and I think that if I go to school for this, I could possibly do well in this career. I am concerned, though, about the amount of money I could make at this. What are the possible job options, and average salaries of those jobs? Does it sound like I'd do well in this field?

Toilet question? There are a few loo-related Qs on here today, which have reminded me of a pet hate. I was in a restaurant the other week: the food and service were very good but it put me right off when I went to look at the porcelain and it was unisex. Does anyone actually think unisex bogs are a good thing?
