Interior Design/Wall Paint HELP!?!? Okay, so heres the deal... I just signed a 1 year lease for an apartment with my long-term boyfriend of 4 years. We are SO excited to get out and have our own place. After a year we will be moving into our own house. BUT, for the time being we're in an apartment with paper white walls :X ew. I am HUGE on interior design, and cannot stand having bare/boring walls or rooms. Since the apartment allows you to paint, but you have to paint it back before you move out I am trying to figure out a way to do this CHEAP and EASY.... I was thinking only painting the living room since that will be the biggest place for entertaining, but rather than painting the entire room, just painting an accent wall.... Long story short (sorry about the day long story) since the walls are all paper white, will it look tacky just painting one accent wall?? I feel like if I paint one wall a brown color it will look silly next to pasty white walls. Suggestions on colors? I would like a deeper brown color, but will I have to paint 3-4 coats? HELP!!! I'm looking for any opinion, or help I can get. Interior Designers/Experienced painters PLEASE HELP ME!!
Interior paint designs, modern, artistic? I am looking for ideas for interior paint designs that are modern and artistic. Where can I view some ideas? I have two ideas: 1.) 3 colored, plain walls with one accent wall that is painted as geometric squares or freestyle art 2.) 4 plain walls with one accent wall that has three strips of patterned rectangular fabric hanging. I am really looking for artistic/modern ideas. Thanks.
What are some good color combinations for carpeting and wall paint? Opening a new retail business and would like suggestions on carpet color (dark carpet color a must) and wall paint color combinations that would compliment each other nicely. Can standard gesso work as a primer for a wall mural on top of standard house/wall paint? I'm going to be doing some mural work and wondered if white gesso would work for a first layer before my actual design. I'm primarily concerned about its permanence on top of standard interior house paint; I don't want it to start cracking and peeling off because it can't adhere well. If gesso wouldn't work, than what do mural-painters do for this type of situation? I want to cover any color that may be on the wall, smooth it out, and provide a good primer for my next layer of acrylic or oil artists' paint. Thank you for your help and suggestions. Add'l info: This is for an interior wall, but I have not seen it yet (friend of friend's house) so do not know the type of paint already on it.

(interior design) What color should I paint my walls? So I'm recreating my room in a color scene of black, white, grey and red. I already have/or going to get a: bed spread (Vira Wang brand the platinum theme, black, white, grey) red chair (SKRUVSTA Swivel chair from ikea ) glass side table (KLINGSBO Side table, black, clear glass) long black dresser (6 drawer dresser with silver knobs, 2 down, 3 across) *a fish tank (Fluval Chi 5 Gallon Complete Aquarium Kit) my dad and i will make the stand for the tank (wood is black) a tall lamp (i don't know how to explain it but- a pole with a cone on top with two twistable lamps at different heights) a black colored mirror So basically the wood theme color is black. (but do you recommend white color instead of black because its more brighter and not so dark and sad looking) Anyways I'm stuck on the wall color. My original thought was to paint it grey (either dark or light) but now my second thought is it would be to plain and sad looking. I was thinking red but then...i just got stuck. Maybe my wall can have different shades of grey stripes across the wall or 3 walls the same color and one wall a different color. I hope this helps your answer. Thanks for everything!

interior design question (paint color)? Let's say that I'm painting a rectangular room separated by an arch (living room & dining room)... If I painted the side walls and one of the end walls in a Teracota color and the arch is a pale Plantain color, could I paint the other end in the pale color also just to create a color recall of the arch??? I'm just wondering if it will make the dining room appear smaller... The same drapes will be used in the living room & dinning room. the ceiling and trims are a creamy color already. (that's the 10% of the color) at opposite ends, there is a wall of drapes in the living room and at the other end, just one widow with the same set of drapes and that is the wall that would be lighter...
What color goes well with black (interior design)? here is the problem 1.) i am a guy. i am clueless about interior design 2.) wall is painted tannish pink (not my choice). carpet is light colored 3.) my coffee table, sofa, desk, and study lamp is black 4.) the only think non-black is my dark red rug (beneath my coffee table), white shelf, and my silver floor lamp As you can see, i have too much black in my living room. The last piece of furniture that i want to purchase is a long tv stand. I want the color of the tv stand to mix well with the rest of the color. My question What color tv stand should i purchase? Interior Design Help (Paint Color for my Bedroom)? I bought this bedding, as I've been wanting it for awhile now. I really want to use it in my room. The color of the bedding is a little more teal than the picture shows on the webpage. I am looking to buy a white or espresso brown wooden bed. I am not sure what color to paint my room. Please help- and be specific!!! What color for the walls with what color bed? And please make it look more "grown-up," as I don't want to put a teal color for my walls--too youthful, in my opinion. And a lighter neutral color would be best. I'm leaning towards a gray color. BUT i am open to ALL colors (as long as they are lighter- my room is quite small!) My science project needs help. It's about how interior wall color saves heat energy.? My science project needs help. It's about how interior wall color saves heat energy.? What I'm gonna do is get 2 shoeboxes and put a water bottle and thermometer into each of them. One will be painted black inside, the other white. Every ten minutes or so, I'll take the temperature readings. Then I'll compare the boxes to rooms inside a house. What I want to know is that I have to write a research paper, and I don't really know what to look for. My dad told me to call paint stores and ask them the properties of their paint. What properties? Then he suggested I look up house designs. Can you guys make better sense on this? The box is closed, like a room. and I'm measuring the temperature of the water bottle. How do I find out if reflection plays a part in the process?

I need some interior designing advice? I'm redecorating my bedroom and I'm stumped. I like industrial, gothic, and any kind of quirky avant-garde kind of theme. But at the same time I like floral patterns and pastels and lace and frilly stuff. Can you give me some design tips for mixing these two styles? Maybe you can link me to some cute furniture, room accessories, wall paper, paints, etc? Also keep in mind I have a budget so nothing too expensive.
Interior design question - painting my attic bedroom? my bedroom is in the attic, is measures 20' x 12'. Its rather spacious, but what makes it difficult is the fact that is has a sloped ceiling on one side, and the a single window at each end. The sloped ceiling can make it feel smaller, and the lack of windows doesn't allow much light. I very much need to paint (its white right now) and want to do a contrasting wall in a deep red color. The contrasting wall would be the wall opposite the slanted ceiling (the one where my head board would be). The rest of the walls, to keep things bright, I was thinking of doing in a bright orange-gold color. Now here is where things get complicated. To visually lift the sloped ceiling, I am thinking of painting the two foot high straight wall below it with verticle stripes alternating the same orangy-gold with a one that is one shade lighter. My question is, should I continue the lighter or the darker of the golds throughout the rest of the room, should the ceiling be the darker or the lighter?
Men, would you mind if your wife redecorate the house? Suppose you walked into your house one day, and your wife decorated the curtains and pillow with a more feminine touch, such as adding pinks, floral into the interior designs and painted the wall into a lighter, brighter color would you mind? I'm thinking about doing it, because the house is too masculine, everything is dark brown and black, it feels very sad.
Painting/interior designing?? Much needed advice please! :)? my bedroom has blue-grey carpet and rich brown timber skirting. one wall is mostly a window and the opposite wall is my wardrobe/door. i want a light, neutral colour and then have a dark, rich feature wall. i was thinking of doing blue, purple, or brown for the feature wall, (leaning towards something like this, http://www.google.com.au/imgres?q=havana+brown+dulux&um=1&hl=en&biw=1280&bih=834&tbm=isch&tbnid=ZfMJwo3FoDZAwM:&imgrefurl=http://www.facebook.com/pages/Del-Valle-Painting/209689005742886&docid=CarsuLlGHnBDJM&w=112&h=130&ei=ko2PTpr_GaramAW4t5QM&zoom=1) but i would really appreciate other opinions because im not sure what would look good with the carpet/skirting. please and thankyou! :) also all my furniture is white, so it goes with anything :) & im willing to buy new curtains/bedspread :)
Does anyone know great websites that have contemporary interior design tips like Extreme Home Makeover? I am looking for a website that has a lot of "how to" tips on how to decorate the interior of homes. Lots of pictures of rooms, paint color options that look good together, etc. On the line of design... such as that of Pottery Barn or like that of how they design on the show Extreme Home Makeovers. I am sick of looking at white walls. I like contemporary, unique and cozy. We are a young couple, so we would like our home to look cool. I live in a small town, so the closest store for decorating is Walmart. I need something that will help me add style and coordinate. Otherwise I buy a whole bunch of stuff that doesn't make a whole lot of sense and I can never come up with any colors I like, that I won't want to change! Please help!
How to choose colors for new home interior? Hi, I'm in the process of buying a new home and am thinking about what colors to paint the rooms, 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, kitchen, and living room. The house is on the small side, so I've heard that I should use mostly light colors to make it look bigger. I really like the way rooms look when they have one color on the top half of the wall and one color on the lower half, or three walls painted one color, and the fourth wall painted a second color, and in both cases the window trim painted a third (usually white) color. http://www.thedesigncollectivegroup.com/interior-design/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/color-walls1.jpg http://img.hgtv.com/HGTV/2006/08/21/hst105_vt_david_partition_2_lg.jpg I know the 'look' I'm going for, I just can't seem to find colors that I'm happy with. Can anyone help me choose colors that would go well together? Blue is the only color I know I want to have in at least one of the rooms, but I can't decided on a shade either. The exterior of the house is white, and the front door is red. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How do you find out other measurements throughout the room? examples: furniture, windows, rug etc. What is the hardest ting you do that involves math in interior design?
Where do good interior designers hang out online? I just got a new condo and it's really empty now. It needs new furniture and wall paints, but I can't decide what to put in there. Are there any forums where interior designers hang out, that I can share my pictures of my new place, and discuss different design layouts?
What is an appropriate decoration to paint on a chocolate colored wall of the staircase? Our wall is a lovely chocolate colored wall leading up to the staircase. I was thinking of putting gold paint for the color of the design, since our stair handles are chocolate with small hand-painted gold streaks all around it. I don't know what type of design to paint on it though. My mom wants me to paint something on it, with me wanting to be an interior designer and all. I was thinking about something more contemporary but, me being a visual learner, I want to see how this decoration can be and should be dome. Thanks so much for your help. :)
how do i pick interior designs for a living room? me and my husband are moving into a new house in about five months! the living room is a square that is shared with the dining room so i am thinking a sectional sofa or a couch and loveseat. my main problem is colors!!!! OH MY GOSH! the walls are white and cannot be painted, i have not walked through the house yet, seeing as we are on the waiting list for on base houseing, so we kind of have to take whatever opens up. so like i said the walls are white, i found a great site with many color options on the sofas and couches i want. www.homereserve.com i was thinking maybe a yellow couch with this amazingly soft navy blue throw blanket that my husband got in germany, throw those two together along with a few throw pillows maybe in a navy blue and yellow design? i want to make my living room look warm and inviting, at the same time i want the colors to pop! i want people to walk in and say wow this looks really nice! please some help here, i feel like im a interior reject!!! haha.

What kind of interior design style is that? The one where walls are unfinished and covered in white paint.. rather raw but beautiful looking... you can tell the brick silouhette but it's still stylish. I am not finding the right word for it.. help please! Post pic links too if you have any! It's not actually... I saw it in Being John Malkovich, where Cusack's house has that kind of wall... love it!

I'm opening a Children's Entertainment center but don't know how to pick a good wall color palette to use. I'm opening a children's play center (uptownplayaround.com) and have meticulously designed the entire facility (myself) with high-end features and ordered beautiful one-of-a-kind play structures but I can’t decide on what colors to paint my walls. Aside from a mural, where can I find this kind of info? It’s not in my budget to hire an interior designer to pick my pain color, nor do I want to get advice from a 18 year old kid at Home Depot
Can you answer my question about interior design, Color? We just got new couches that are tobacco brown ( almost chocolate) Our wall - art, frames, and such are black, it went perfectly with our old couches. Will black frames go with the tobacco brown. I don't want it to look to dreary or muddy. What colors can i add to make it flow. I really like burnt orange. there are no pillows on the couch or window treatments yet. Painting is out of the question in this apartment. The rug is brownish beige, and walls white, with hideous blinds. But I can't change that, What do you recommend? I'm lost

Ughhh, i hate interior designing, im crummy at it! lol Oh by the way, this is a room for a teenager, so it would be something modern...hopefully! Painting techniques? I am about to paint my new home! Well the problem is that I am a bit overwhelmed. I want to do a colorwashing technique in my living room with golden yellows. Does anyone know the best way, and cheapest way, to colorwash a wall? I love to do interior design, so I don't mind doing the work. Also, does anyone know some good colors that I could use in a SMALL bedroom? I would really like a romantic feel to it. And one last question... does Wal Mart sell glaze for interior walls? Thanks so much!!!
Sims 3: Ambitions - interior design portfolio - not full? Hi. So in the game I am an interior designer. During the beginning of the job I was asked to take pictures of my jobs; sometimes I would be asked to take a picture even though I missed a wall without paint. Now I am at the top level, 10, and I only have 70% complete in my portfolio. I've already tried to just take a picture anyway then drag it into the portfolio, but that doesn't count, and it doesn't change the portfolio percentage. How can I get the client to allow me to take a picture? How can I complete my portfolio?

What color should I paint? My townhouse is SMALL (900 sq ft). It's the first house my husband and I bought. I'm a senior interior design major in college, but I'm having a rough time with my own living room. =/ When you walk into my living room, the stairs are directly behind the door. The living space is to the right. We have a double window that is east facing, so we get direct sunlight from sunrise till 2pm. It's 12x12. Currently, we have a beige microfiber couch, the walls are painted almost robin's egg blue (the paint turned out wrong... it was supposed to have a gray-ish tint to it and look clean and open). Our doors and trim are white. And we just bought an expensive area rug that is chocolate brown with gray-blue, tan, and sage green palm leaves. US Interior design? Hi. I'm an italian woman and I'd like to furnish my new house in tipical american style. I've got a problem: I painted my kitchen and living room (these are just separed by a wall with a window); the space is big and sunny, we put on a white marble floor, white windows without rolling shutter, and th paint was made in hot yellow in this way: from the floor 90cm in yellow, then white, then yellow; the colors are separed by decorating plaster sticks;. The yellow is this one: http://www.spatulastuhhi.com/it/prodotti.php?Code=C%202%20ZC Now that it is applied, I dislike it...but I don't want to paint again 'cos I'm soon going to get married... the rest of this house (3 floors) is painted in gold, beige etc. How can I furnish this part of my house in a tipical elegant american way, even to repare the error of the paint? Could someone give me links to interior design websites or is there any interior designer? tHANKS A LOT!! :*
Accent wall with Damask wallpaper in office? Help!? We are remodeling our home with new paint etc and I work from home so I have my own office that I want to redo and I love interior design so I am always looking for neat things to try. Last night I was watching some show on HGTV and the lady did like two walls with black and white damask wallpaper and then left the other two walls white and it looked awesome. But what I am wondering is can I do one wall black and white damask wallpaper like an accent wall that my desk will go against, and then paint the other three walls a teal green color? Or will that look weird since the wallpaper is black and white.. I'll paste a link of the wallpaper and tell me what you think? Thanks so much!! http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/3/6/1/6/6/7/webimg/176496146_o.jpg
What color should I paint my dorm? I'm a guy so naturally I am not very good with anything concerning interior design. I will be moving into a room for college in the next couple of weeks, the current color of the room is black which is too dark for me. Most of my electronics tv, speakers, computer, ps3 are all black and have blue lighting which is what I want to base the color of my room around. It is not a dorm room so I do not share it with anyone else, it is a house I am living in with eight other people and each person gets a room thats about the size most dorm rooms are except like I said no roommate. Any suggestions for wall color?
What color should I paint my apartment? Hey guys. I want to paint my apartment walls which are right now a dark smoky navy blue(which I like). I feel like i need a change. I've studied psychology as one of my majors in college so i know that blue is a turn off because its cold, red builds up your appetite for you(just check out all the logos of McDonalds and Burger King and KFC and Nestle and etc...) and brown, which is what i really want, makes you feel like you should leave(dont know why). Even though I'd like brown.. i cant bring myself to paint my walls brown. The problem is, I dont want my walls to be white, black, gray, teal, blue, brown, red, purple, beige, green, off white or any other color like that. Gray and white are totally out of the question. I want a dark color. My apartments small but dark colors feel cosy ..not too dark of course. Blue is too cold and I'd need to find a great tone of it but I'm going to paint it myself so i cant mix stuff or pay someone.. a slightly dark beige sounds like the best idea because its nowhere near green or blue and its a natural tone.. tell me what you think. If you have knowledge on interior design, please feel free to give me your opinion. a BIG thank you to all you who answer:)
I NEED SOME INTERIOR PAINTING IDEAS, SOMETHING CREATIVE? i want to paint my living room , but i dont want to do it all one color. i wanted to do the walls half one color half another color. i cant find a website to show me different designs or ideas to paint a room other then all one color. Interior Design Ideas for Kitchen? Hi- We bought a new house and we are currently decorating. I have a long, quite bright and airy kitchen. It has a pine floor and pine cabinets with black surfaces and off white small tiles. This would not have been a look I would have chosen, but we can't afford to re-do the kitchen, so we have to make it work. We have quite a lot of Black kitchenware, which obv goes with the surfaces, but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what colour to paint the kitchen to make it tie in more? Other than white, I'm not sure which colour to paint the largest wall. Many thanks.
Any interior design help out there? Hi - please help! The white, cream, beige and brown is really starting to depress me... sorry to be so melodramatic but it really is! I want to inject some deep bold colours but i don't know where to start! Do i get the curtains first? The bedlinen/cushions? The walls painted? Then i don't know where to inject the colour... Do i have the colour on the curtains? The walls? Or do i keep them neutral and put the colour on the sheets etc? Then i don't know about patterns... Do i keep the curtains one main colour, then pattern on the bedsheets? Or what about wallpaper? Does anyone know any golden rules? Maybe you know a website or forum that is amazing? Maybe i should just throw a few thousand at it and get someone in to do it? Please help...
Updating interior of rented home, on the cheap- tips needed? I live in a rented house and want to update the living room on the cheap. It has a red carpet and curtians which I don't want to replace. What is the most contemporary style to paint/decorate the walls and create a clean modern look that will go with the red soft furnishings? Any style tips to inspire modern design? I am taking my time to look for new ideas so hope to get some creative input here. Thanks.
Decorating plain walls on the cheap? (No Paint)? So I'm in college and I want to decorate my living room and bedroom walls and I'm not allowed to use paint. Nearly everyone around here takes large pieces of fabric with some design/pattern on it and hang it from ceiling to ground. I ask all of them where they got these and no one knows. Anyone on Yahoo know? They aren't quite tapestries, and not quite table cloths. I'm also really into Arabic/Islamic interior design. Any suggestions there? I want to take the fabric and hang it from the ceiling but I need to find out where to get it/what it is! Thanks Cannot use wallpaper unfortunately
Where can I find affordable interior designing/decorating help? We moved into a new house and would like to get some help in the area of interior designing/decorating. No remodeling/construction needed, just need help with deciding how to use the rooms and spaces, what type/size furniture to place (this is important), may be some paint work on select walls if needed ...etc. We can't spend much, and would only like a couple of hours of consulting to help with this (we'll do the buying and placing things ourselves for the most part). I didn't find much on craigslist and don't know where to look ... Thanks
Interior design question....? Ok so I want to re-do my room. I want to do a mature sexy type of room. I have a brown and cream color zebra throw rug that i must keep because it was really expensive. By the way i am a female. So i want to work with the colors brown white red and gold. Wat color should i paint my walls? I have all dark brown furniture. And what can i do to make my room look really nice?

Interior design intelligence with color theory needed! Bedroom transformation? http://freshome.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/bedroom-romantic.jpg This is the bedroom I'm going for. We are moving into a new house (on a military base) so I can't paint any walls and I don't know if I can do starch and fabric. This is a very romantic room and I want to copy it exact. My question is how can I change this room to a more calming room for relaxation? These colors promote active warm colors (intimacy), and colors that promote calming relaxation are cooler colors like blues and certain greens. Sometimes we just want to relax so how can I transform this room easily into a peacful area when the colors would have to be opposite?
Help! I need interior design advice! (picture)? I want to give our apt a face lift but we are not permitted to paint the walls, even if we paint them back when we move. They are a horrible HIGH gloss off white. Also, our living room is very large for an apt. 14'x13' so you can imagine how annoying big plain walls are. My decor colors are Light Green, Ivory, Gold, and Dark Cherry Red with Cherry wood. Does anyone have suggestions for me to make my place look fresh and airy with horrible white walls? Here is a link to a picture I drew up of our floor plan. http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL71/5585840/15234540/332131691.jpg
Ladies, a hopeless guy needs your help with some interior design? i am decorating my room and im 19. The carpet colour is a creamy biege and im not changing that because it is relatively new. I want the room to look clean, simple, sophisticated but not bland. For the walls i was thinking a light cream?? And for the furniture: http://www.yabbyou.co.uk/vermont-oak-kingsize-bed-hfe-pi-65.html?image=0&osCsid=000e88c3ece077d407c4343ca91c1910 What do you think? Also, do you think i should put any artwork etc on the walls? I would like a room that a girl would be comfortable in and be happy to be in!
Interior Design, 60s style? I'm moving to a new apartment, and I want to give a bit of a 60s look. I'm renting the place, so I can't make any major changes (like painting the walls or getting a lot of new furniture), so I'm looking for something cheap and easy, that can add a style and give the place the right vibe.
I need Interior designing ideas!? Okay, well i just painted my walls light/baby blue, and my carpets are purple, more like a lavender. The colors don't bother me much but i need ideas on a theme/thing i should add to the room. I lovelovelove like Vintage French things, but dont know how that'd go with the colors. I sharemy room with my 10 year oldsister so please nothing too crazy. Also, i'm on a budget, so nothing insane please. Thankyou so much if you can help!
Help with interior design and colours please!? I am moving into a small room in a flat, it is aprox 10ftX12ft, with cream walls, i currently have a deep red bedroom and all black furniture. I want to create a kind of gothic victorian feel and am planning to move in most of my black furniture. The room has horrible white vinyl tiles on the floor and i don't know what to do with them! I am worried about painting the walls dark or having a dark floor as its so small with only one window but the light colours just aren't me, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Would be a great help, Thank you.
Advice on bedroom - Anyone into interior design? :)? I've recently had all the wallpaper in my bedroom stripped. Soon I will either have to put new wallpaper up, paint or both. I would appreciate help as I can't afford to make a mistake. I've no experience with interior design so advice and suggestions would be good if anyone experienced or with good taste could help me out please? I can supply pictures of the room, etc. :) I have a double bed in my room with black leather boards. The floors are light wood. I have a preference for pinks and reds personally and my old room was dark raspberry pink completely, it began to give me a head ache though. The faint idea I have in my head right now is: http://www.wallpaperdirect.co.uk/products/crown/organza-iris/51856 OR http://www.wallpaperdirect.co.uk/products/vymura/tiger-lily/66348 ... on two segments of the wall. My room has a sort of chimney style where the middle of one wall comes out a bit. I thought one of those wallpapers on either side of the chimney part, and then the rest of the room painted classic red. This has all been imagined in my head so it might be a ridicious idea. This is where I need your help please. Opinions on my idea or whole new different ideas of your own. Room planners online are not accurate enough and I would love a person's open as I've said. Please help. :) Thank you Contact: E-mail me @ tripmywire1993@live.co.uk Add me on facebook: Sabrina Sarder Sp mistakes:Ridiculous* Opinion*
Interior design ideas? Working with modern furniture in small condo!? I'm moving into a new condo. Long story short, it's owned by my boyfriend's uncle.... so he's giving me all of the furniture that's in there. It's a very small one-bedroom. I wish I had a picture, but I don't. It's got white walls, white carpet, white ceilings, and black furniture. Black leather sofa, black tv stand, black dining room chairs, black stools, black oriental-inspired dresser, and a black bedframe with a semi-circle headboard. The coffee table is a rectangular piece of glass over a really awesome panther-sculpture. The panther's shoulders and hips hold up the table. The only splash of color is the cabinets in the kitchen that have been painted a bright turquoise. The condo is much more modern than my tastes, but I'm willing to work with it. The only problem is.... I'm not completely satisfied with the way it looks just yet. I hate having so much white and black in a small space. I like the contrast, but it's too overwhelming. Another issue is my furniture I'm bringing with me is mostly earth colors like brown and beige. Any ideas how I could make this work? Suggestions for painting the wall another color? Or possibly the cabinets? I'm fine with turquoise but if there's another color that works better I'm willing to give it a try. Thanks!
Help with interior design for my room!? I've always wanted to paint my bedroom black, but have never really felt like moving out all my furniture, getting paint, etc. Now, I will be moving in a few weeks, and see it as a perfect opportunity to finally have a black room. I hope to paint the walls black, and splatter them all over with neon paints (ie. neon turquoise, lime green, yellow, orange, purple, and maybe even a little hot pink.) I don't think it will be too overpowering or make the room look too small, since it's a good average size and has a large window. I will also get a blacklight to make the colours really jump out. I am very excited about painting, but have absolutely no idea how to go about furnishing it. Does anyone know how I can pull this off, furniture and all? And if there is no way at all this could work, how else do you think I could paint my walls? If it helps at all, I am a 13 year old girl with a very scene/punk style, and my favourite colours are black and lime green. Also, I am on a budget, and can't afford to go out and buy a ton of new things. Thank you!
interior design/ hardware knowledge? What is the name to the piece of wood that you can put around a room to seperate the walls in half? Similar to a baseboard or molding.....and also is it recomended to paint it, should I use 3 diff colors- one of top, bottom and the rail around the room? and should it go light on top then dark? what would be the general order?
interior design!! help me please?!?!? so i want yellow diamonds painted on my walls. big ones with 2 shades of yellow....the middle shade of the two yellows for the alternating diamonds, is the color i painted my ceiling with. my walls are 160 inches by 204 inches.... i dont know where to start! i need to map out the diamonds first, but i dont want any kind of border between the diamonds...i want the yellows to touch. i know to use a clear coat so it doesnt run, and all that, but what do i do? where do i start?!? what size diamonds would be appropriate? is it gonna look stupid!?!? how do i map them out so they are even and straight!?? i want it to look GOOD!! thank you!
Sims 2: BR/Interior Design Stuff pre-made lot question? so the lot called "stylish abode" or something has a really, really nice bathroom. The bathtub is nestled in these shelf-type things, and I cannot figure out how to duplicate this design. I took some screenshots but they're small so it's a little hard to see. Does anyone know how to do this? this first pic is the original colors, i noticed it's like a tiny wall with a cieling- you can paint the sides, and use tiles on the top. http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x268/goateex3/snapshot_00000025_d5f3d9a4.jpg this one is after I painted it to see the contrast better http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x268/goateex3/snapshot_00000025_75f3d9e6.jpg please help
Interior Design Question? So we just finished up a small remodel on the office. The floors are now wood a reddish mahogany, the walls are painted a soft tan, and my husband just finished framing the window and put up a beautiful trim that is in white. The question is...I really like the trim and don't want to cover it up with a curtain...would a roman shade (or any other suggestions) work there. And I'm thinking a really pale yellow for the color...will that be ok with the colors already mentioned? And lastly if i go roman shade can that stand alone or do i need a valance or some sort of drapery to pull it all together. I'm hoping less is more but am open to ideas. Thanks...sorry so long.
Decorating Help!? Anyone out there good with interior design? I have a two-story living room, and it's the most intimidating, plain, white room I've ever seen. I REALLY want to paint, decorate the room but don't even know where to start! Any advice for VERY large spaces? (What kinds of colors, what else can I do with the walls?) HELP!
need help with color scheme for living room? ok, i have a white "L" shaped couch with dark red accent pillows, 2 dark red asian style paper floor lamps, 2 oversized asian fans for the walls that are gold and dark red wood. a large still life painting of a closeup of 3 lily flowers white black with a gold frame, a few black shadow boxes? that hold candles on the walls... im goin for an asian theme, moving into a new place where we can paint how we want, was thinking of either red walls, or gold walls? or possibly splitting the walls in half horizontally with bottom half gold/or tan and upper half dark red to go with the gold accents... the ceiling would be left white, i guess, we will have white tile floors, so any help is appreciated.. also what aboput a curtain for the sliding glass doors?, red/gold/black? dont know.. im gonna try and play alittle in photoshop... please some of you interior design experts help a guy out!!!!! edit, heres a link to what im working with.. http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o42/aquariuskid2001/IMGP0549.jpg http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o42/aquariuskid2001/IMGP0548.jpg

I have this tiny little cottage, the walls are a mini gallery with fine arts, their is a lounge area where you can sit and read a magazine or discuss the design of the unique dinnerware you want us to make for you (handmade/painted), you can even come in and paint your own pottery or join a photography workshop. We offer for 12 years and up (birthday parties)...of course they will paint their own piece of pottery. The idea is you relax and do not have to be a profesional or you indulge in our art decor, interior designers purchase by us and companies have their meetings in our tranquil atmosphere while having fun designing mugs for the office-WHAT WOULD YOU NAME OUR LITTLE STUDIO???
Can you patch badly damaged plaster walls? I've just bought a house and whoever owned it previously was horrendous at DIY! The units are all fine and quite modern, but they've stripped some tiles off the walls and left an awful mess. There's not a smooth surface to be seen, lumps have fallen out etc.. but I'd really like a tiled splash back. They've even "painted on" some plaster in one area! I've had a suggestion of a stainless steel splash back which I really dont want (reminds me of working kitchens) and we've even considered putting plastic boarding designed for shower interiors on the wall. Can you not just patch up the surface with fresh plaster? And ideally not have to bring in a proffessional plasterer?
A Hot Pink dresser?? Ok, so we just got a huge new house. It is a rental though, and it has a light brown carpet, that I can do nothing about. It also has white walls, which I cannot paint. My two 8 year old girls want to do their room in pink and black. They have a black bunkbed and my mom made them these VERY CUTE hot pink fuzzy bed spreads with black ribbon that goes across them and black and pink pillows. I am planning on getting a hot pink rug eventually. We just bought them an unfinished dresser (the long kind that have three drawers on each side) that I want to paint. What do you guys think about this? Painting the dresser hot pink, doing a decoupage in hot pink, black and white (different designs, words, fabric, etc) on the front of the drawers and having black "crystal" looking knobs. Do you think that would be too much? Or do you think that would look cute? I am not an interior decorator and do not have the "vision" but I am crafty and can make this dresser cute. We also bought a regular wall mirror, the kind with the frame around it and we are going to paint the frame black and hang it above the dresser.
Ok so need help with room colors? Ok im sorry but I dont have a digital camera so I cant show you the color of the carpet but....I have a spare room that I am painting and it has this rich red (slightly bright) carpet in it and I want to do an accent wall and then the other 3 walls I want a off white or tan color but I cant think of what the accent wall should be! This is hard for me cause I am usually good at interior design stuff lol It is a spare bedroom and has a big window that lets in a lot of natural light and the room is about 10X10 I think I usually like more modern looking things and we dont have anything really in the bedroom so its pretty much a clean slate

The Collapse of the Twin Towers Part V: Can the Conspiracy Theorists debunk this? The mechanics of the collapse are really much more simple than conspiracy theorists would like you to believe. The heat expanded the steel in the truss in all directions. As a result they also expanded into the columns. The trusses/floor system, sagged in the middle because the columns were preventing the trusses from expanding in their direction. That led to the bowing of the exterior columns. Listen to the NIST lead investigator explain the leading hypothesis for the towers collapse. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/wtc/sund-flash.html Computer simulation of expanding truss pushing out on a perimeter column and sagging After the columns bowed, the weight was no longer going straight down. Like taking a straw and bowing it in the middle, it no longer can hold the same weight as it did when it was straight. The building tried to transfer the load to the core columns and massive hat truss on the roof. The weakened core, weakened by fire and impact, couldn't hold the massive weight from tilting. As with the perimeter column, the massive load on the deformed core columns gave way. Now look at what a REAL Controlled Demolition looks like... You can hear the explosives clearly over the helicopter engine and rotating blades. The NIST and "Pancaking" The massive weight easily caused a "Pancaking" effect but unlike the original hypothesis, the pancaking didn't cause the collapse. It was a result of the collapse. Update: Conspiracy theorists are taking the above out of context in an effort to mislead readers into thinking the NIST and I are in disagreement. We are not. As I mentioned above, the pancaking happened AFTER the building was on it's way down and therefore NOT part of the NIST investigation. The NIST only studied the collapse until "Global collapse was inevitable". Any conspiracy theorist that tells you the NIST said the building NEVER pancaked is lying. The building didn't pancake CAUSING the collapse but evidence is strong the building pancaked AFTER the collapse was "inevitable". What the NIST observed: Failure of the gusset plate welded to the top of the truss chord was again almost exclusively observed regardless of location. This may be a result of overloading the lower floors as the floors above were "pan-caking". NIST NCSTAR 1-3C Sect 3.5.3 Of course this will be labeled a contradiction by conspiracy theorists. As if the NIST can't observe something without studying the behavior of it. Let me make this really easy for them... 1) The NIST said, the heat from the fires sagged the trusses which bowed the columns inward CAUSING the collapse. Pancaking did NOT cause the collapse. The evidence I see agrees with this conclusion. 2) The evidence on the ground strongly indicates, after the collapse began, the building pancaked spreading the debris as we see below. The NIST never studied this so how could we be in disagreement? I recently E-mailed the NIST to verify this. Here is their response: NIST did not describe the specific sequence of events after global collapse initiated. The progression of global collapse was induced by the failure of the supporting structure (columns carry vertical loads; floors hold columns together, they do not carry vertical loads). NIST's investigation focused on the factors that led to the initiation of collapse, rather than the sequence of events after the collapse initiated. Sincerely, WTC Investigation Team From the NIST report, page xxxvii: The focus of the Investigation was on the sequence of events from the instant of aircraft impact to the initiation of collapse for each tower. For brevity in this report, this sequence is referred to as the “probable collapse sequence,” although it does not actually include the structural behavior of the tower after the conditions for collapse initiation were reached and collapse became inevitable. So while they did investigate the squibs issues and other parts of the global collapse like the gusset plates failure, they never studied the "structural behavior" of the global collapse, as they did "the sequence of events from the instant of aircraft impact to the initiation of collapse". And why should they? Every paper which passed peer review by respected scientific journals (The Journal of 911 Studies is not one of them.) on the collapse of the towers calculates the massive weight of the top sections would crush the buildings as seen. There are mathematical calculations which are shown in Bazant's paper (See below) and are peer reviewed. Others have passed similar papers. The idea that these buildings could not fall as they did flies in the face of these facts. Conspiracy theorists are clearly lying about this in order to paint this site as unreliable. The irony of their claims seem to be what's most reliable in their movement. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Below we see the top of the south tower fall behind the perimeter columns at an angle. The top falls behind the perimeter columns and on the floors. (This happened at both buildings as this evidenced by these video screen shots of the north tower.) The angle at which it falls pushes the perimeter columns in front of the falling top section outward, giving them distance. Conspiracy theorists use the original hypothesis - which wasn't created by the government, and which was wrong - to say the NIST can't be trusted, but that's the way all science is. They look at the evidence and create a hypothesis, test the hypothesis against the evidence and if new information comes out, they change the hypothesis accordingly. You would think if the NIST was going to lie, they would just build the lie around the first hypothesis. That they changed it only shows independence. Ironically, Professor Jones has changed his paper numerous times, yet the conspiracy theorists don't cast doubt on whether his paper is correct. Proof of the pancaking effect is the core columns, which can be seen collapsing seconds after the perimeter columns hit the ground. If the building didn't pancake, what happened to the trusses? Assuming they didn't just fly away it's obvious they fell straight down. More evidence of pancaking is on ground zero. Note what's left of the core with most of the debris from inside the building around it. This photo was taken in October 3rd so many of the columns were already picked up but the major debris is located closest to the core. Below is another interesting photo. It shows the perimeter columns laid out as if they simply tilted over. The only explanation is that the floors went straight down and the unsupported perimeter columns pivoted over in large sections. Below is the Bankers Trust building. As you can see, the building never caught fire so it was never in any danger of collapse. The evidence points to a combination of unfought fire and damage which brought down the WTC 7. That's what the NIST draft said as well. The Bankers Trust was also constructed differently, with a web column design. The interior columns were not pushed out to the perimeter. Note the WTC columns laid out as if there were a path to the building. There are no concrete slabs attached to columns. With the floors pancaking straight down, the perimeter walls were free to lean over in tall sections before breaking off and coming down. That's what gave them distance. The above photo illustrates just how far the perimeter columns could have gone. If the columns didn't break up as they leaned out they could have made a path to the Hudson river. Reaching Building 7 and the Winter Garden would have been well within reason. The last piece of evidence is the standing perimeter columns. You can see what's left of the steel plates which hold the floors up. The tremendous weight stripped them off as the floors were on their way down. As generally accepted by structural engineering and structural mechanics experts (though not by some laymen and fanatics seeking to detect a conspiracy), the failure scenario, broadly proposed by Bazant (2001), and Bazant and Zhou (2002), on the basis of simplified analysis, and supported by very realistic, meticulous and illuminating computer simulations and exhaustive investigations by S. Shyam Sunder's team at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, 2005), may be summarized as follows: 1. About 60% of the 60 columns of the impacted face of framed-tube (and about 13% of the total of 287 columns) were severed, and many more were significantly deflected. This caused stress redistribution, which significantly increased the load of some columns, near the load capacity for some of them. 2. Fire insulation was stripped during aircraft impact by flying debris (without that, the towers would likely have survived). In consequence, many structural steel members heated up to 600±C (NIST 2005) (the structural steel used loses about 20% of its yield strength already at 300±C, NIST 2005, and exhibits significant visco-plasticity, or creep, above 450±, especially at high stresses that developed; see e.g. Cottrell 1964, p. 299; the press reports right after 9/11, indicating temperature in excess of 800±C, turned out to be groundless, but Bazant and Zhou's analysis did not depend on that). 3. Differential thermal expansion, combined with heat-induced viscoplastic deformation, caused the floor trusses to sag. The sagging trusses pulled the perimeter columns inward (by about 1 m, NIST 2005). The bowing of columns served as a huge imperfection inducing multi-story buckling. The lateral deflections of some columns due to aircraft impact and differential thermal expansion also decreased buckling strength. 4. The combination of six effects a) overload of some columns due to initial stress redistribution, b ) lowering of yield limit and creep, c) lateral deflections of many columns due to sagging floor trusses, d) weakened lateral support due to reduced in-plane stiffess of sagging floors, e) multi-story buckling of some columns (for which the critical load is an order of magnitude less than it is for one-story buckling), and f) local plastic buckling of heated column webs finally led to buckling of columns (Fig. 1b). As a result, the upper part of tower fell, with little resistance, through at least one floor height, impacting the lower part of tower. This triggered progressive collapse because the kinetic energy of the falling upper part far exceeded the energy that could be absorbed by limited plastic deformations and fracturing in the lower part of tower. (Bazant, Verdure, 2006) http://www.civil.northwestern.edu/people/bazant/PDFs/Papers /ProgressiveCollapseWTC-6-23-2006.pdf For a detailed account of the collapse, do yourself a favor and READ ALL the NIST FINAL reports. Painting question? what color makes a room appear larger? I read in an interior design magazine before that certain colors can make a room look larger or smaller. I'm looking for help choosing colors for my very small bathroom. The room has very little wall space & right now the walls & ceiling are off white. People who are good with colors!! I will really appreciate your help! A contemporary media room advice, please? Hello! Me and my husband want to furnish a contemporary/modern-style media room for movies & gaming and lounging. The room already has parquet.. So that is unchangable.. We want to work around the parquet and see what colors would make the room look best without changing it. Now, the room is already painted, but we MIGHT consider painting over it if it means getting the room to look better. I'm just worried it'll ruin the parquet somehow :\ A picture of the room during the night: http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee24/dewyn/night.jpg and during the day: http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee24/dewyn/day.jpg What I want advice on is: 1) if you were to work on the same paint & parquet colors; what colors of furniture would u furnish the room with? (please include google-image-search pics if you can) 2) if u think the wall paint should be changed, what color paint and what colors for furniture will look best? (please include google-image-search pics if you can) I'm asking because I'm not good at all with interior design. I might post this question another time during the night to get to different users' answers. I really need all the help I can get! Thanks! Close-up of the parquet: http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee24/dewyn/IMG_0035.jpg Thanks. I'm REALLY considering changing the wall color now.. so what color paint/furniture do you guys think will look the best? I'm really enjoying the answers I'm getting! Do you guys also think that lime-green(not the blinding kind) on the walls and white furniture would go well, too? More suggestions, please! :D
Coffee house/cafe interior? My teacher is making us do a poetry-reading at school, and she wants us to design the room like an old coffee house. Like one of those places that the people can read poetry and jazz and they snap instead of clap at the end. Well, anyways, what are some ideas to transform a simple classroom into a coffeehouse? Just simple things, though, nothing like painting the walls or contructing something.
Interior Design Advice I am a teenage boy with a large bedroom. At the moment it is painted two shades of blue. I have black-brown furniture and a wooden floor. I have quite a lot of natural light. I would like to change the colours of my walls but am struggling for inspiration. I like grey tones, but on their own I think that they look boring and dull. I think I would like three of the 4 walls to be a simple, light tone and the 4th to be a bold colour. Any Ideas??

Need advice on building a doll house sized Victorian home? I have two weeks to finish building, painting, and adding furniture to my structure. It'll count as my final grade in Interior Design. It has two floors which will have one room on bottom and one on top. I began to paint the top floor walls striped with purple and black paint and am not happy with the result. Any ideas on how I can fix that little problem, and also how I can make my house look more Victorian? Color schemes? Wall decorations? Something I can use on my walls, floors, ceilings, and exterior other than paint? Thank you so much in advance!
I plan on redecorating my kitchen soon, what do I do first??? Here is the design Im using....... http://dutchboy.com/gallery/interiors/kitchens/color-depth-charge/index.jsp I plan on doing everything exactly as the picture. I already have the stainless steel appliances, and my counter tops match the ones in the pictures. So I want to know, do I paint the cabinets Red first, or should I paint the walls grey first?
